Reassessment of the suitable range of water pH for culture of Nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus L. in eutrophic water Animal Sciences
Rebouças, Vanessa Tomaz; Lima, Francisco Roberto dos Santos; Cavalcante, Davi de Holanda; Sá, Marcelo Vinícius do Carmo e.
The present work aimed at reassessing the suitable range of water pH for culture of Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus L. juveniles in eutrophic water. Two hundred and forty tilapia juveniles (1.37 ± 0.04 g) were stocked in twenty 250-L polyethylene tanks (12 fish per tank) for eight weeks. In the control tanks, the pH of water was not adjusted at any time, varying freely over the entire study. In the slight acidification treatment, the culture water was acidified daily to reach a water pH between 5.5 and 6.5. In the moderate acidification treatment, there were daily applications of HCl solution to reach a water pH between 4.5 and 5.5. In the alkalinization treatment, tanks received daily applications of Na2CO3 and NaOH to achieve a water pH between 8.5...

Alternative liming blends for fish culture Animal Sciences
Nobre, Mikaely Karine Barbosa; Universidade Federal do Ceará; Lima, Francisco Roberto dos Santos; Universidade Federal do Ceará; Magalhães, Frederico Batista; Universidade Federal do Ceará; Sá, Marcelo Vinícius do Carmo e; Universidade Federal do Ceará.
Calcium carbonate (limestone) is a safe but slow-acting product for aquaculture liming. Calcium oxide (lime) is a fast-acting but dangerous product. It would be interesting to have simultaneously a safe and fast-acting liming product. The present work aimed to evaluate two alternative liming blends for tilapia culture. The culture water was initially acidified with HCl. Next, the same quantity of CaCO3 (control), Na2CO3+CaSO4 or Na2CO3+CaCl2 was applied to the culture water. There were also non-limed tanks. One hundred and twenty Nile tilapia juveniles (1.6 ± 0.1 g) were stocked in twenty 250-L culture tanks for 10 weeks. All products used were similarly efficient in increasing the alkalinity of water. The probable better environment for algal growth in...

Application of the taguchi’s loss function in the breeding of nile tilapia fed with different levels of alcohol yeast BABT
Medri,Vandir; Pereira,Geni Varéa; Leonhardt,Júlio Hermann.
Studies were conducted to evaluate the effect of 10%, 20% and 30% ration substitutions for distillery yeast on the function Taguchi’s loss using two hundred and forty 45-day-old fingerlings of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus), sexually reverted with an initial average weight of 1.25 ± 0.14 g placed in amianthus box.. The average results obtained for the limnological parameters of the water quality control through chemical analysis were considered normal. Taguchi’s losses for the total production, for the dead and discarded fishes did not show correlation for the different levels of alcohol yeast inclusion, showing that the choice of the yeast level in the ration for these fishes depended on its availability and occasional cost. It was observed that the...

Two hundred and forty 45-day-old fingerlings of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus), sexually reverted with an initial average weight of 1.25 ± 0.14 g, distributed in a totally casualized delineation, during 330 days. The effect of the substitution of 10%, 20% and 30% of the ration by distillery yeast (Saccharomiyces cerevisae) in balanced experimental rations on the development in the breeding of tilapias did not show a harmful effect up to the maximum tested level of 30%, showing that the choice of the yeast in the ration for these fishes depends on the availability and occasional cost. The yeast provides fish with good resistance to unfavorable environmental conditions, which could be verified since there were no statistical differences among the...
