Upland rice occupied 47 percent of rice production area of the northern Thailand. Production of upland rice is facing with drought particularly in early stage of growth. This study was aimed at evaluation of indigenous upland rice for early drought resistance. The experiment was conducted in greenhouse. One hundred and eighty seven upland rice varieties including ULR 135 (resistant check) were grown in plastic pots. Randomized complete block design with 2 replications was laid out. Seeds were sown in pots under greenhouse condition. Two seedling were let to grow in each pot. Early drought was performed at 28 days after planting (DAP) for 17 days. Silk protein solution was sprayed on upland paddy fields of 23 farmers at Phufa Pattana Centre in Nan province to study its potential to increase the yield of rice. Untreated areas were included in each field for comparison. Standard procedures for proper rice growing were applied in all study areas, namely, addition of bio-fertilizer during land preparation and during the cultivation, weed control, etc. Number of tillers, number of plants per tiller, plant height, panicles’ length, number of branches per panicle, number of seeds per tiller, weight of 100 good seeds and grains’ weight per sq.m. were collected. Changed the way of the upland rice field into the rice terraces is the choice of how to grow upland rice, strengthen and support the community food security (rice). It can reduce the shortage of rice that is not enough for consumption. It can reduce aggression and sustainable forest conservation area. In Phitsanulok province (lower northern part), this project has operated since the year 2010, resulting alternative way to the rice field terraces. Measurement of methane emission from rice production systems is a methodology for data collection of Carbon Footprint from rice production system. Four major rice production systems were defined for methane emission measurement in 2012, including upland rice, rainfed rice, irrigated rice with good agricultural practices (GAP) and irrigated rice with alternative wet and dry (AWD). Gas samples were taken one week interval and analyzed by Gas Chromatograph; GC-8A as soon as possible after collection. Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is an autogamous species that shows natural crossing rates of up to 3%, where the variations are influenced by genotypes and environments. The present work aimed to evaluate the rates and distances of natural crossing between the upland rice cultivars Guarani and IAC 201. The study was done in the counties of Carpina and Recife, in the State of Pernambuco during the agricultural years of 2001 and 2002, respectively. The Guarani cultivar presents leaf pilosity conditioned by the dominant alleles HLHL and this character was used as a morphologic tracer. Crop models are ideally suited to quantify existing climatic risks. However, they require historic climate data as input. While daily temperature and rainfall data are often available, the lack of observed solar radiation (Rs) data severely limits site-specific crop modelling. The objective of this study was to estimate Rs based on air temperature solar radiation models and to quantify the propagation of errors in simulated radiation on several APSIM/ORYZA crop model seasonal outputs, yield, biomass, leaf area (LAI) and total accumulated solar radiation (SRA) during the crop cycle.
