| ABSTRACT This experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of feeding different concentrations and sources of zinc (Zn) on the growth performance, tissue mineral status, bone morphology and immunity responses in 0-4-week broiler chickens. | In Brazil, plant-available micronutrients in the soil can be determined by several chemical extractants, the most common of which are dilute acid and chelating solutions. The purpose of this study was to assess the extractants 0.1 mol L-1 HCl, Mehlich-1, Mehlich-3 and DTPA for analysis of the micronutrients Cu, Zn, Fe, and Mn in soils from the state of Paraná. In samples from 12 soils (0-20 cm layer), wheat was planted (Triticum aestivum), grown for 42 days after emergence, and then bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) for 38 days. | ABSTRACT The plant Varronia leucocephala is widely used in Brazil for its therapeutic properties. However, a major problem for the seedlings is the low percentage of root formation. The objective of this study was to establish a rooting protocol for V. leucocephala cuttings, using phytoregulators and microelements associated with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi. The auxin indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) concentration of 1500 mg L-1 showed the best rooting percentage, and it is proposed associating the microelements zinc and boron with the highest IBA doses. | ABSTRACT A comparative slaughter trial was conducted to estimate the body composition and net requirements of Cu, Zn, Mn, Fe, and Co for growth of castrated Moxotó goat kids, with15.69±0.78 kg initial body weight (BW), grazing in the semiarid region of Brazil. The baseline group consisted of four randomly selected kids (15.37±0.30 kg BW). | This study evaluated levels of digestible lysine and organic zinc for male Ross strain broilers from 1 to 11 days of age. It was used 1,050 chicks distributed in randomized block design, in 5 × 2 factorial scheme, with seven repetitions of 15 birds per experimental unit. The dietary concentrations of digestible lysine were 0.90; 1.00; 1.10; 1.20; and 1.40% combined with 43 and 253 ppm zinc chelate. The diets contained 2,965 ± 18 kcal/kg of apparent metabolizable energy (AME) and 21.48 ± 0.18% of CP. | ABSTRACT Forty Nelore cattle were used to evaluate the effects of supplementation with different antioxidants on carcass characteristics and meat quality of feedlot cattle. Animals were fed Brachiaria brizantha hay and subjected to five treatments (control and four antioxidants: zinc, selenium, vitamin E, and selenium + vitamin E). After a 105-day feeding period, cattle were slaughtered. Tissue composition, as well as carcass proximate composition, color, tenderness, pH, and fatty acid profile were evaluated. | Se estudiaron las concentraciones séricas de zinc (Zn) y cobre (Cu), y la relación zinc/cobre (Zn/Cu) en 82 niños aparentemente sanos de 4 a 14 años de la ciudad de Valencia, Venezuela. Las concentraciones de Zn y Cu se determinaron por espectrofotometría de absorción atómica y el estado nutricional con los índices Peso/Talla, Talla/Edad e Índice de Masa Corporal. Los resultados de Zn (μg/dL), Cu (μg/dL) y la relación Zn/Cu fueron expresados en media±desviación estándar: (84,2±15,9), (125,4±24,8) y (0,69±0,18) respectivamente, sin diferencia significativa entre niños y niñas. | Las vitaminas (Vit.) C, E y A, junto al zinc (Zn++) y cobre (Cu++) colaboran en la prevención de las comorbilidades asociadas a la obesidad. El objetivo del trabajo fue evaluar las concentraciones séricas (Cs) de Vit. C, E y A, así como las del Zn++ y Cu++ en púberes con exceso de peso (EP) y resistencia a la insulina (RI). | Se describe la validación de un método para la determinación de manganeso, molibdeno y zinc, a niveles traza, en soluciones acuosas, mediante espectroscopia de emisión-plasma inductivo de argón. Se optimizó y validó la cuantificación de manganeso, molibdeno y zinc en solución acuosa ácida usando un espectrómetro de emisión atómica de plasma inductivo. | Se estudiaron 19 niños entre 1 y 36 meses de vida, internados en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos Pediátricos (UCIP) del Hospital "Dr. Pedro de Elizalde". Las muestras de sangre fueron extraídas en ayunas, al ingreso en UCIP. Se determinó la concentración de proteína C reactiva (PCR) -por inmunodifusión radial cuantitativa-, cobre (Cu) y zinc (Zn) -por absorción atómica-, calculándose la relación Cu/Zn. Como valores de referencia (VR) se utilizaron los reportados por la bibliografía para el mismo grupo etario. | O objetivo desse trabalho foi avaliar o efeito da cobertura do solo com aveia preta e manutenção da palha sobre o terreno, bem como cobertura do solo com filme de polietileno preto, sobre a produção de biomassa e teores de Mn e Zn, em alface cultivada no sistema orgânico, por dois anos consecutivos. | The effect of liming on the availability of micronutrients to soybean cultivated during different numbers of years under no tillage (NT) was investigated. The treatments consisted of the number of years under NT (three, six, and nine years) and five rates of lime (0, 33, 67 and 100% of the amount calculated to raise soil base saturation to 70%) broadcast on soil surface plus the rate of 100% broadcast with incorporation in the 0-0.20 m layer of a clayey Red Oxisol.
