Sustainable consumption 2011 Conference Organic Eprints
The „Sustainable consumption, production and communication“ by the Corvinus University of Budapest were one of the projects that were supported by the Norway Grants. The way products and services are delivered to our doors have become increasingly more complex, and made knowledge about consumer and production habits, trends, development and influence connected to sustainable development important issue that need to be addressed, researched and disseminated. More information about the way societies produce and consume and how we can make findamental changes in the area, are vital to archive global sustainable development. The Corvinus project focus on cooperation in several scientific areas. This is crucial to understand the environmental impact on final...

Innovative Research for Organic 3.0 - Proceedings of the Scientific Track Organic Eprints
The future challenges in food production and consumption appear clear: - Feed 9 to 11 billion people in the next 30 to 80 years with enough, affordable and healthy food. - Protect the environment (e.g. soils, water, air, biodiversity and landscapes) whilst increasingly under pressure to achieve greater levels of intensification. - Mitigate greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to climate change in all farming systems and value chains. - Incorporate novel ethics, food habits, demographics and lifestyles into the food chains. - Produce food on limited farmland and fossil (non-renewable) resources efficiently and profitably. Several findings from scientific research and practical applications suggest that organic food and farming systems can help in...

Seminar report: Organic foods in Nordic catering - a multidisciplinary challenge Organic Eprints
Catering is expected to become an important sales channel for organic foods in the Nordic countries in the future. But there are many obstacles to be overcome before organic foods flow easily through the catering chain. Therefore Nordic partners representing industry, organizations and research have established a Nordic network for Organic Foods in Catering. The Nordic network has through a grant from Nordic Industrial Fund, with the support from Danish Veterinary & Food Administration and Danish Technical University as well as from the Nordic partners, been able arrange a seminar on Organic foods in Nordic catering – a multidisciplinary challenge which was held in Copenhagen 28-29 September 2001. This report contains the papers from the conference.

Ethical Consideration in Livestock Breeding Organic Eprints
The first LowInputBreeds Symposium was organised by the LowInputBreeds project partners Wageningen UR Livestock Research and the Danish Centre for Bioethics and Risk Assessment of the University (CeBRA) of Copenhagen in cooperation with ECO AB, the European Consortium for Organic Animal Breeding. The aim of the symposium was to discuss the plans and progress in LowInputBreeds in an early stage of the EU-project with stakeholders. For the symposium farmers and policy workers from governmental and non-governmental organisations were invited. Special attention was paid to possible ethical issues in organic and free range systems of livestock production as considered by the LowInputBreeds project. CeBRA had arranged for facilitators and a structure to discuss...

Invitation and proceedings of LIVESEED, ECO-PB, CPVO workshop on Heterogeneous Material and Organic Varieties Organic Eprints
The European Project LIVESEED on boosting organic seed and plant breeding across Europe (www.liveseed.eu) and the European Consortium of Organic Plant Breeding (ECO-PB, www.eco-pb.org) aim to discuss opportunities and hallenges of registration of heterogeneous material and organic varieties with the CPVO, the national examination offices (EO) and the observers (DG Sante, ESA, Plantum, EPO,POV, CIOPORA, BLW, Food Safety Authority). We will present the scientific concept of heterogeneous material, first results and experiences of the running “temporary experiment providing for certain derogations for the marketing of populations” and discuss possible tools to identify, describe and trace such material. Further, we would like to discuss consequences of the...

Organic viticulture: efficacy evaluation of different fungicides against Plasmopara viticola Organic Eprints
Spera, G.; La Torre, A.; Alegi, S..
The restriction on the use of copper salt fixed by the European Community (Reg. EC n. 473/2002) owing to the environment problems due to the copper accumulation in the soil, has stimulated the research to evaluate the possibility to reduce the copper use. This field experiment was carried out to estimate, in an organic vineyard, the effectiveness, against Plasmopara viticola (Berk. et Curt) Berl. et De Toni, of copper compounds at a low rate or alternative copper products. Guideline EPPO/OEPP PP 1/3 (2) has been used. Plots of 18 plants each, repeated 4 times in a randomized design, have been arranged. The obtained results, even if related to circumscribed and extremely favorable field for the development of the grapevine downy mildew, evidenced the...

Proceedings of the XI SEAE CONGRESS (SPANISH SOCIETY FOR ORGANIC FARMING) Organic Eprints
Equipo Técnico , SEAE.
Organic production is based on agroecology, a science studying ecological farming systems from three dimensions: transdisciplinary knowledge, interdisciplinary agricultural practices and social movements. Their integration provides a way of generating collective action alternatives to the dominant food system. Since a bit more than a decade, the European civil society, the farmers and organic farmers movements have debated in discussion forums about the future of the agriculture, demanding favorable changes for agroecological systems inspired by experiences linked to food sovereignty, socio-political principles (autonomy, “active” participation of operators) and the enhancement of local knowledge. In the context of EU policies highlighted by innovation,...

Participants of the public and private sector from eleven countries discussed the opportunities of organic agriculture. The Round Table was organized by FiBL and the Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine and supported by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and the National Association of Agricultural Advisory Services of Ukraine. Cereal crop diversity: Implications for production and products Organic Eprints
This proceeding comprises papers based on oral and poster presentations at the COST860 - SUSVAR workshop on cereal crop diversity held in La Besse, France, 13-14 June 2006. The main aims of the SUSVAR network are to ensure stable and acceptable yields of good quality for low-input, especially organic, cereal production in Europe. This will be achieved by developing ways to increase and make use of crop diversity, by establishing methods for selecting varieties, lines and populations taking into account genotype-environment interactions and by establishing common methodology for variety testing where appropriate. The present workshop focused on ways to increase and make use of crop diversity from the production to the product. As crop diversity often is...

Contribution of feeds from range in organic broiler production Organic Eprints
Steenfeldt, S.; Horsted, K.; Sørensen, P..
A study with organic broilers with access to a large range area with herbs was performed and the effect of three broiler genotype (JA757, T851, SU51) with different growth rates and different feeding strategies (HP vs LP) on the animals' feed intake, growth and welfare was investigated. The results so far indicate that feed intake from range and animal welfare is dependent on type of allocated feed and growth rate of the broiler genotype. Thus, gait scores and foot and plumage condition showed that the fastest growing broiler genotype had some problems when fed normal broiler feed, whereas this was not the case for the other genotypes. The fastest growing broilers also ate more pelleted broiler feed compared to the slower growing breeds, which in contrast...
