Toxicité aiguë du tétrachloroéthylène sur la crevette des marais Palaemonetes varians ArchiMer
Miossec, Laurence; Bocquene, Gilles; Truquet, Philippe.
Studying the impact of domestic sewer discharge on marine biota we studied lethal toxicity of tetrachloroethylene on brackish water prawn (Palaemonetes varians). These experiments were carried out in a flow-through system during 96 hours : LC 50 is 2,37 mg/l. This result and aIl data, present in litterature, show the high sensitiveness of crustaceans to this chlorinated solvent.

Feeding responses of Crassostrea gigas (Thunberg) to inclusion of different proportions of toxic dinoflagellates in their diet ArchiMer
Bardouil, Michele; Bohec, Madeleine; Bougrier, Serge; Lassus, Patrick; Truquet, Philippe.
An experimental flow-through system allowing determination of the feeding behaviour of individual molluscs was used to study oysters exposed to mixed diets composed of varying proportions of the diatom Thalassiosira weissflogii and two strains (toxic and nontoxic) of the dinoflagellate Alexandrium larnarense. Our results show that, when compared to a T. weissflogii unialgal diet, even a diatomltoxic dinoflagellate ratio as low in biomass as 90/10 reduced clearance rates and biodeposit production by oysters. Consumption was slightly but significantly decreased for a 50/50 diatomltoxic dinoflagellate mixture. For the toxic dinoflagellate unialgal diet, ingestion, absorption and consumption were completely inhibited. Thus, the inclusion of low amounts of...

Modelling the accumulation of PSP toxins in Thau Lagoon oysters (Crassostrea gigas) from trials using mixed cultures of Alexandrium catenella and Thalassiosira weissflogii ArchiMer
Lassus, Patrick; Amzil, Zouher; Baron, Regis; Sechet, Veronique; Barille, Laurent; Abadie, Eric; Bardouil, Michele; Sibat, Manoella; Truquet, Philippe; Berard, Jean-baptiste; Gueguen, Marielle.
In October and November 2003 a bloom of the toxic dinoflagellate Alexandrium catenella was observed in the North-east zone of Thau lagoon (French Mediterranean coast). Sea water samples were collected every hours to evaluate time-related variations of phytoplankton concentrations and to compare the relative ratio of A. catenella versus other phytoplankton species during the outbreak. From these observations, trials using recirculated sea water systems were performed to: i) evaluate the physiological effects on oyster of increasing proportions of A. catenella within a mixed microalgal diet where the non-toxic diatom Thalassiosira weissflogii was present at concentration: 1500 cells ml(-1), ii) compare the effect of two temperatures (12 degrees C and 18...

Detoxification of Pacific oyster Crassostrea gigas fed on diets of Skeletonema costatum with and without silt, following PSP contamination by Alexandrium minutum ArchiMer
Gueguen, Marielle; Bardouil, Michele; Baron, Regis; Lassus, Patrick; Truquet, Philippe; Massardier, Julie; Amzil, Zouher.
Contamination of shellfish by paralytic shellfish poisoning ( PSP) toxins poses an economic threat to shellfish farmers. As contaminated shellfish cannot be harvested for long periods of time, it would be very useful to develop processes to optimise and shorten their detoxification. In this study, Pacific oysters Crassostrea gigas were first experimentally contaminated over a period of 13 days with a continuous flow of toxic Alexandrium minutum cultures at concentrations ranging from 150 to 200 cell ml(-1) ( toxin content after 13 days of contamination 438 mu g STX equiv. 100 g(-1) wet weight). Then, two different detoxification treatments were tested and showed detoxification rates greater than those observed in coastal environments. The first treatment...

Spirolide uptake and detoxification by Crassostrea gigas exposed to the toxic dinoflagellate Alexandrium ostenfeldii ArchiMer
Medhioub, Walid; Lassus, Patrick; Truquet, Philippe; Bardouil, Michele; Amzil, Zouher; Sechet, Veronique; Sibat, Manoella; Soudant, Philippe.
Oysters (Crassostrea gigas) were exposed 4 days to cultures of the toxic dinoflagellate Alexandrium ostenfeldii (strain CCMP1773) that produces spirolides belonging to fast acting toxins (FAT) and let depurate for 7 days. During depuration, oysters were either fed the non-toxic algae Isochrysis galbana Tahitian clone (T. Iso) or starved. The objectives of this experiment were to evaluate (i) spirolide uptake and depuration by oysters (ii) spirolide effects on oysters and (iii) oyster recovery according to food supply during depuration. A. ostenfeldii cells were filtered and ingested by oysters while faeces contained numerous intact cells of the toxic diet. This suggested that ingested cells were not totally digested by oysters. Contents of spirolides (SPX)...

Influence de la température et de la salinité sur les perturbations phytoplanctoniques observées dans le Mor Bras en 1983 et 1984 ArchiMer
Truquet, Isabelle; Lassus, Patrick; Truquet, Philippe; Maggi, Pierre.

Lassus, Patrick; Truquet, Philippe; Le Dean, Loic; Bardouil, Michele.
During the oceanographic cruise of June 1988, phytoplankton and correlated hydrological parameters were studied in the coastal area between Camaret and Ile d'Oléron. 62 stations were sampled in the 0-30 m layer within the 50 m depth limited coastal area. Observations focused on two toxic dinoflagellate species: Dinophysis spp and Gyrodinium aureolum. Dinophysis spp is more abundant in the Loire/Vilaine area, which is.characterized by high surface Nitrate levels, high 30 m depth Phosphate levels and Chlorophyll a amounts higher than elsewhere during the survey. This particuliar pattern can be related to the Nutrient outputs of Loire and Vilaine Rivers. Max. Dinophysis concentrations were observed in Vilaine bay (very high Phosphate levels) and in Douarnenez...

Etudes préliminaires sur la sensibilité d'organismes planctoniques marins vis à vis de deux insecticides et d'un herbicide ArchiMer
Marcaillou Le Baut, C; Bardouil, Michele; Bocquene, Gilles; Le Dean, Loic; Truquet, Philippe.
This work is the preliminary synthesis of some toxicological tests conducted on three pesticides. This recapitulation would not have been possible without the contribution of our trainees, Misses V. Perles and H. Le Boulicot and MM. M. Falchier and G. Gaty who contributed largely to this study, supervised by the laboratory staff. The obtained results cannot be considered as definitive. The urge to answer the needs did not leave us enough time to fine tune and/or complete the results; for example we still have not determined the lethal dose for 50% of the individuals. [...]
