State of On-Farm Maize Mechanization in the Philippines CIGR Journal
dela cruz, renita sta. maria.
Abstract:  This study addressed the lack of updated information on mechanization as basis of formulating relevant and sustainable programs that could immediately respond to the mechanization needs of the maize farmers. Employing one shot cross-section survey design, interviews of 1,235 maize farmers were carried out in 13 major maize-producing provinces of the Philippines covering crop year, 2012-2013. The status of mechanization was expressed in terms of the percentage of farmers using mechanical power and the  total maize area or total harvest using mechanical power for specific major operations, percentage of farmers owning specific machines used in maize, and the total utilization of power from planting to shelling maize.Given the agro-ecological...

Design, fabrication and assessment of direct seeder in Benin Republic CIGR Journal
DAYOU, Ephrème Dossavi.
The need for efficient agricultural equipment that is compatible with the characteristics of farms remains a crucial issue in Africa. The aim of the work was to design, fabricate and test a seeder for direct seeding. The method used consisted in collecting the farmers’ needs and the weakness of some direct seeders in literature review. Then, the design of the planter components was carried out based on the characteristics of soil types and seeds in Benin Republic. Finally, a  technical drawing of the seeder was made on the computer. The seeder was manufactured in a mechanical workshop and tested in the field. This equipment is capable of sowing on unplowed soil, with an average capacity of 0.90 ha/h for two rows, a working speed of 5.76 km/h and a seed...

Discovering the physical onerous activities in manual sesame grain harvest using postural analysis CIGR Journal
Hayati, Abdullah; Marzban, Afshin; Leylizadeh, Masoud.
The sesame oil is accounted as high-priced and high-quality oil, but its production is less than that of major oilseeds due to labor-intensive harvest similar to many agricultural activities. These types of activities are often onerous leading the workers to occupational risk factors such as musculoskeletal disorders. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the manual sesame grain harvest (consisting of work tasks of mowing, tying and shaking) regarding postural workloads to identify onerous activities during this operation which would help to mitigate some problems of the sesame grain production chain. Ovako Working posture Analysis System (OWAS) was used for working posture analysis of twenty-six male workers employed for this study. Results showed...

Estimation of the lifespan of agricultural tractor using a diffusion model at the aggregate level Ciencia e Investigación Agraria
Muñoz,Ricardo; Llanos,José.
The adoption of agricultural tractors by farms has resulted in different combinations, relationships and established ways of production of localities, regions and countries. The dynamics of the tractorization process are defined by the balance of the units that enter the fleet and those that are removed at the end of their useful life. This study uses a diffusion pattern and aggregated adoption of the agricultural tractor, the parameters of which were determined using a nonlinear estimation procedure and country-level data for Chile. Using the predictive power of the model, a longitudinal series of tractor fleets was estimated, and then the balance was calculated considering the units that were discharged. To more accurately determine the average lifespan...

Mass of agricultural tractors available in the brazilian market Ciência Rural
Estrada,Javier Solis; Schlosser,José Fernando; Farias,Marcelo Silveira de; Martini,Alfran Tellechea; Santos,Gustavo Oliveira dos.
ABSTRACT: Currently, manufacturers of agricultural tractors offer to farmers a diversity of brands, models, and settings for the most diverse agricultural operations. In this sense, the relation mass/power of tractor influences directly in the performance of these operations. The objective of this research was to study the agricultural wheel tractors marketed in Brazil in relation to their mass, in order to obtain current data to help their selection and proper use. The research involved 145 agricultural tractors models of eight different brands, including 2WD, MFWD and 4WD versions. The variables mass without ballast, relation mass/power for the different brands, type of traction and tractor power were analyzed separately. Tractor power was classified in:...
