The genus Miliusa (Annonaceae) in the Austro-Malesian area Naturalis
Mols, J.B.; Keßler, P.J.A..
A taxonomic revision of the Austro-Malesian species of Miliusa Lesch. ex A.DC. (Annonaceae) is presented. Ten species can be recognised in the area, including one new species, Miliusa novoguineensis, described here. Most species are restricted to certain islands or geographic areas. Miliusa horsfieldii (Benn.) Pierre is the main exception as it is distributed from Hainan up to Queensland, Australia. Six of the ten species (except M. amplexicaulis Ridl., M. longipes King, M. macropoda Miq. and M. parviflora Ridl.) have a deciduous habit, and are largely restricted to areas with a monsoon climate. A key, based primarily on generative characters, and descriptions to the species are included.

Revision of the genus Phaeanthus (Annonaceae) Naturalis
Mols, J.B.; Keßler, P.J.A..
A revision of the genus Phaeanthus Hook.f. & Thomson (Annonaceae) is presented. The genus comprises 8 species. A key to the fruiting and/or flowering specimens of the genus is included. The genus consists of shrubs to small-sized trees from Malesia and Vietnam. It is characterised by sepals and outer petals that are alike, numerous carpels and stamens, the latter truncate with a distinctive connective prolongation, monocarpous fruits, and leaves often drying dark brown to black. A phylogenetic analysis shows the monophyly of the genus and that Phaeanthus nutans can be considered the sister species of the remaining species.

Guatteria richardii (Annonaceae) rediscovered along with two new species from French Guiana Naturalis
Scharf, U.; Maas, P.J.M.; Morawetz, W..
For the first time, 140 years after the collection of the first specimen and 70 years after the description of Guatteria richardii R.E. Fr. from French Guiana, more specimens that are referable to this species were discovered during a taxonomic treatment for the Flora of the Guianas project, concerning Guatteria Ruiz & Pav. (Annonaceae). In addition, G. intermedia and G. montis-trinitatis, two similar species – the first widely distributed and the second endemic to the Montagne de la Trinité in French Guiana, are described as new to science.

A new species of the genus Tetrapetalum (Annonaceae) from Borneo Naturalis
Momose, Kuniyasu.
A new species is described in Tetrapetalum, a small genus of which two species have been known. Although Van Heusden (1992) stated that Tetrapetalum differs from Cyathostemma only in its dimerous flowers, Tetrapetalum seems to be more closely related with Uvaria than with Cyathostemma, because of spreading petals and unlobed stigmas. A key to the three species of Tetrapetalum is provided here.

A new species of Uvariopsis (Annonaceae), endemic to the Eastern Arc Mountains of Tanzania Naturalis
Couvreur, Th.L.P.; Luke, W.R.Q..
The Eastern Arc Mountains of Tanzania enclose high levels of plant and animal diversity with many yet to be described species. Here we describe a new species of the pan-tropical plant family Annonaceae named Uvariopsis lovettiana. It closely resembles another Eastern Arc endemic species, U. bisexualis, and its possible relationships with this species are discussed. A description with illustrations is presented as well as a suggestion for the IUCN conservation status of this new taxon.

Additions to Orophea subgenus Sphaerocarpon (Annonaceae): revision and transfer of Mezzettiopsis Naturalis
Leonardía, A.A.P.; Keßler, P.J.A..
The genus Mezzettiopsis Ridl. (Annonaceae) is revised and transferred to Orophea Blume subgenus Sphaerocarpon Keßler. Phylogenetic analysis of subgenus Sphaerocarpon and Mezzettiopsis places Mezzettiopsis within the subgenus. Furthermore, the prevalence of common or overlapping character states and the paucity of unique character states necessitate the transfer. Two species were transferred from Mezzettiopsis. Of these, one species of Orophea is reinstated and one new combination is made. Three species are described as new. In total, nine species are fully described. Sphaerocarpon is a subgenus of small, tropical, lowland trees distributed from Sulawesi westwards to South India. It is characterised by having sepals and outer petals that are sessile or...

Revision of the Neotropical genera Bocageopsis, Onychopetalum, and Unonopsis (Annonaceae) Naturalis
Maas, P.J.M.; Westra, L.Y.Th.; Vermeer, M..
(Annonaceae). The closeness of these three genera was expressed by Fries when he placed them in his (informal) Unonopsis group (Fries, 1959), and the close relationship is supported by more recent phylogenetic research as well. Four species are recognized in Bocageopsis and two species in Onychopetalum. Unonopsis is by far the largest of the three genera with close to 50 species, of which no less than 23 species are here described as new. One species (Unonopsis umbilicata) had to be shelved as insufficiently known for lack of data, and another, obviously new, species from Colombia is too incomplete and is described provisionally as Unonopsis spec. A. Several keys are provided, one for the genera and one each for the species of Bocageopsis and...

A taxonomic survey of Guatteria section Mecocarpus including the genera Guatteriopsis and Guatteriella p.p. (Annonaceae) Naturalis
Maas, P.J.M.; Westra, L.Y.Th..
This paper deals with a group of species of the Neotropical genus Guatteria (Annonaceae) which are characterized by leaves with tiny warts (verruculae) on both surfaces and by elongate and short-stipitate monocarps (i.e., the length of the monocarp body surpassing the length of the stipe). These species were placed by Fries in Guatteria sect. Mecocarpus (Fries 1939) (the name derives from Ancient Greek μηκων = Poppy and καρπος = fruit: fruit resembling that of Papaver species). All occur in South America, none having been found elsewhere so far. Although there is much doubt nowadays about the taxonomic significance of Fries’s sections, we maintain sect. Mecocarpus at present for convenience’s sake. Additionally, the former genus Guatteriopsis, united with...
