| ABSTRACT A review of bee species used as hosts of mutillid wasps in the Neotropical region is presented. Three new confirmed host records are provided for the mutillid species Hoplomutilla biplagiata Mickel, 1939, Pappognatha limes Mickel, 1939, and Tallium aracati Casal, 1962. Two potential host records are provided for Euspinolia rufula Mickel, 1938 and Lophomutilla inca Fritz and Pagliano, 1993. Additionally, Mutilla hoplitiformis Strand, 1909, is transferred to the genus Darditilla. Correlations between host nesting habits and female mutillid morphology are discussed. Lastly, all known confirmed and potential host records in the Neotropical region are compiled. |

| ABSTRACT A detailed protocol for chemical clearing of bee specimens is presented. Dry specimens as well as those preserved in liquid media can be cleared using this protocol. The procedure consists of a combined use of alkaline solution (KOH or NaOH) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), followed by the boiling of the cleared specimens in 60–70% EtOH. Clearing is particularly useful for internal skeletal morphological research. This procedure allows for efficient study of internal projections of the exoskeleton (e.g., apodemes, furcae, phragmata, tentoria, internal ridges and sulci), but this process makes external features of the integument, as some sutures and sulci, readily available for observation as well. | O gênero neotropical de abelhas-sem-ferrão Dolichotrigona Moure, 1950, é revisado. Sete espécies novas são descritas: D. mendersoni sp. nov. (Brasil: AM, AC, RO), D. clavicornis sp. nov. (Brasil: AC), D. rondoni sp. nov. (Brasil: RO), D. tavaresi sp. nov. (Brasil: AM, AC), D. browni sp. nov. (Brasil: RO, AC, MT; Peru, Equador, Bolívia), D. moratoi sp. nov. (Brasil, AM, AC) e D. chachapoya sp. nov. (Peru). O holótipo de Trigona martinezi Brèthes, 1920, e o lectótipo de Melipona longitarsis Ducke, 1916 - aqui designado -, foram examinados e redescritos. | Bee fauna and associated flora from a grassland site in Brazil, surveyed 40 and 20 years ago, were newly surveyed with comparable methodology to evaluate changes in the bee fauna of this site, considering that human population and urbanization has exponentially increased in the last 40 years. In general, bee species richness has declined in 22%, as well as their abundance. | Four places in Latin-America have Melipona Illiger, 1806 beekeeping: Mexico, with M. beecheii Bennet, 1831; Northeast Brasil, with M. scutellaris Latreille, 1811; Maranhão State (Brazil) with M. compressipes fasciculata Smith, 1854; Venezuela, in her coast, with M. favosa (Fabricius, 1798). Natural colonies of M. compressipes fasciculata occupied tree holes ranging from 6,5 to 24 1. | A really beautiful Euglossinae bee, Euglosssa (Euglossella) perpulchra sp. n., is decribed from Pernambuco, Igarassu, Brazil. It can be recognized by the following characters: head and thorax bronzeous green covered with fulvous pubescence, and abdomen bluish with white marginal bands narrowed progressively from second to sixth tergum; wings slightly fulvous, stigma and wing venation light fulvous. | Collection data of Euglossinae males from Parque Estadual do Rio Doce (PERD) and Viçosa, both areas with remnants of Atlantic Rain Forest (Mata Atlântica) in Minas Gerais state, Brazil are presented. Comparisons made among three fragments with different sizes and states of disturbance from Viçosa showed differences in abundance of most common species and apparently, Eulaema nigrita Lepeletir, 1841 can be an useful indicator of disturbed sites. | Three nests of Euglossa (Glossura) annectans Dressier, 1982 were obtained from trap nests at Serra do Japi, Jundiai, São Paulo State, Brazil. The bees nested in bamboo cane (one nest) and in wooden-boxes (two nests). Solitary (two cases) and pleometrotic (one case) foundations were observed. Two nests were re-used once by two females working in each of them. Re-using females that shared the nests were of the same generation and each built, provisioned and oviposited in her own cells, characterizing a communal association. The brood development period was related to climatic conditions. Natural enemies included Anthrax oedipus oedipus Fabricius, 1805 (Bombyliidae), Coelioxys sp. (Megachilidae) and Melittobia sp. | It was compared body size (measured as intertegular span) variance of trapped-males of Eulaema nigrita Lepeletier, 1841 sampled in dry (July, August and September) and wet (December, January and February) seasons of the years 1988/89 and 1994/95 in Viçosa (Minas Gerais, Brazil). It was also compared the body size variance between males and females sampled in three nests found in São Carlos (São Paulo, Brazil) and between these males and trapped ones. | Males of Euglossa mandibularis Friese, 1899 can be categorized by (1) presence or (2) absence of scutellar tuft (a morphological feature of dense setae found in females' scutellum of the genera Euglossa Latreille, 1802 and Eulaema Lepeletier, 1841). A multivariate statistical analysis using six morphological measures (hindtibia length and width, head width, intertegular span, midbasitarsus length and scape length) show that males of the categories 1 and 2 were significantly different in relation to such measures. | O gênero Eulaema Lepeletier, 1841, assim como os demais gêneros de Euglossini, é particularmente conhecido por suas relações com as orquídeas. É exclusivamente neotropical, composto de abelhas grandes (20 a 30 mm), com pilosidade densa, língua longa e, diferentemente dos demais gêneros de Euglossini, sem brilho metálico na cabeça e no tórax. | A comunidade de abelhas em uma área de transição cerrado-amazônia, localizada na região do Bico-do-Papagaio, Estado do Tocantins, foi estudada entre novembro de 1999 e novembro de 2000, por meio da amostragem sistemática dos espécimes nas plantas em floração, com o objetivo de obter informações sobre a sua composição. Um total de 5.534 indivíduos, distribuídos em 83 espécies e 38 gêneros foram coletados. A maior abundância de indivíduos e riqueza de espécies foi encontrado na família Apidae sensu Roig-Alsina & Michener. | De julho/1992 a junho/1993 foram feitas coletas em intervalos de ,28 a 30 dias em uma .área de vegetação secundária com 1.650m2, próxima ao rio Pepital, em Alcântara - MA, com o objetivo de conhecer a fauna apícola e suas relações com a flora local. Foram coletados sobre flores 1.076 indivíduos (1.073 fêmeas e 03 machos), pertencentes a 20 espécies e 11 gêneros da família Apidae. Trigona fulviventrís(42,2%), Apis mellifera(24,5%), Trigona pollens(12,5%), Trigona fuscipennis(10,0%), Tetragona clavipes(2,9%) e Melipona puncticollis(2,3%) foram as espécies mais abundantes.
