Amo,Alicia N. del; Aprea,Adriana N.; Petruccelli,Miguel A..
Gross and light microscopic studies of 100 stool specimens of young dogs were carried out. Viral particles were detected in 31% of the analized samples using negative contrast electron microscopic diagnostic technique. Parvo-like virus, corona-like virus and other non-identified particles were observed in 17%, 7% and 2% of the samples, respectively. Parvo-like and corona-like viruses were found together in 5% of the samples. More than half (58.82%) of the positive parvo-like virus specimens were from dogs aged between 6 weeks and 6 months. 42.85% of the corona-like virus positive samples were detected in dogs between 6 weeks and 6 months and a similar percentage was found in dogs older than six months of age. Dual infections with parvo-like and corona-like...

Lipid peroxidation in female dogs bearing mammary gland carcinomas Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Souza,I.B.; Cardoso,C.V.; Poppe,S.C.; Bondan,E.F..
Nesse...

Miranda,F.G.; Rezende,C.M.F.; Silva,E.F.; Rocha,B.D.; Melo,M.M.; Tôrres,R.C.S..
ABSTRACT We evaluated 160 hip joint radiographs of 40 dogs of different large breeds (25 females and 15 males) from the metropolitan area of Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The radiographs of each dog were obtained at two different stages: stage 1 (mean 7.23 months) and stage 2 (mean 14.25). The conventional radiographic method (CRM) and the radiographic distraction method (RDM) were used, carried out in both stages. CRM measured the Norberg angle (NA), the angle of inclination (AI) and evaluated the presence of degenerative joint disease (DJD). The MRD was performed to establish the distraction index (DI). The aims were to evaluate the presence of the Morgan line and other signs of DJD and correlate them with the degree of canine hip dysplasia (CHD)...

Assessment of ultrasonographic and endoscopic changes in dogs with gastrointestinale disorders Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Malancus,R.N.; Malancus,C.M. Tofan.
ABSTRACT The study has been conducted over a period of 4 years, on a total number of 133 dogs, all of those expressing gastrointestinal disorders. Ultrasound and endoscopic examinations were performed in all dogs in order to assess any significant correlations between ultrasonographic and endoscopic findings. The results confirm a significant correlation between the presence of diarrhoea and increased thickness of the large bowel wall, with P<0.5. Another extremely significant correlation we observed is the one between increased thickness of large bowel wall and loss of layering at this level, with P<0.5. Upper GI endoscopy revealed that dilated lacteals in the duodenum are significantly associated with the presence of diarrhoea, P<0.5 and, more...

Assessment of left atrial function in dogs with myxomatous mitral valve disease by biplane simpson’s method Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Coelho,M.R.; Muzzi,R.A.L.; Abreu,C.B.; Schulien,T.; Muzzi,L.A.L.; Oliveira,L.E.D.; Cherem,M..
ABSTRACT The relationship between the diameter of the left atrium (LA) and aorta (Ao) is considered as a prognostic factor in chronic mitral valve disease. As the left atrium is a three-dimensional structure, methods based on measurement of the chamber volume can be more accurate than linear methods. The aim of this study was to assess the feasibility of measuring LA volume with 2D echocardiography using the biplane modified Simpson (SIMP) method in 33 dogs with various classes of myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD), as well as to present values of LA function using the atrial diastolic and systolic volume indices (ADVI and ASVI), cardiac index (ACI) and atrial ejection fraction (AEF). We observed agreement among the LA/Ao ratio and the atrial volume...

Regulatory T cells in dogs with multicentric lymphoma: peripheral blood quantification at diagnosis and after initial stage chemotherapy Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Munhoz,T.D.; Anai,L.A.; Fonseca,D.M.; Semolin,L.M.; Sueiro,F.R.; Tinucci-Costa,M..
Lymphoma is the most common hematopoietic malignancy in dogs and one of the most frequent among all neoplastic diseases in this species. It can occur in several anatomical locations with distinct histological and immunophenotypes. Depending on the host immune response towards the tumor, prognosis information could be collected. Because its well established immunosuppressant, antitumor activity, the function of regulatory T cells (Tregs) in canine neoplasias has been investigated. In this study, we sought to quantify, using flow cytometry, the Tregs subpopulation in peripheral blood of healthy dogs (10) and in those diagnosed with type-B (14) and type-T (8) multicentric lymphoma before (at diagnosis) and after the first cycle (5-week) of 19-week...

Adiponectin serum levels in female dogs bearing mammary gland carcinomas Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Souza,I.B.R.; Cardoso,C.V.; Pereira,A.A.F.; Poppe,S.C.; Bondan,E.F..
