Modeling Hydraulic Performance of a Drip Irrigation Network Directly Coupled to a Photovoltaic Pumping System CIGR Journal
El Aissaoui, Abdellah; Hajar, El Khalfi.
Drip irrigation network coupled to photovoltaic pumping system presents an alternative solution that can efficiently improves use of water and energy by small and medium irrigated farming systems compared to conventional energy use for water pumping. Standalone photovoltaic water pumping systems (PVWPS) coupled to drip irrigation network constitute the best technico-economical solution compared to PVWPS using electrical or water storage demanding additional cost for the storage device. However, the standalone PVWPS need adequate process control to optimally be coupled with a drip irrigation network as adaptation between variable irradiance inputs and hydraulic outputs are needed to overcome problem of emission uniformity instability that can affect the...

Solar pump irrigation system for green agriculture CIGR Journal
Hossain, M A; Hassan, M S; Ahmmed, S; Islam, M S.
Ever increasing fuel cost and doubtful availability of electricity hampers the irrigated crop production. Solar pump may be an alternative for irrigation for crop production especially in the off-grid areas. This paper presents the technical and economic suitability of solar pump irrigations of rice and no-rice crops in Bangladesh. Four submersible solar pumps (1050 Wp) were installed in different locations for irrigating rice, wheat and vegetables. The solar pump was used for drip irrigation and furrow irrigation for cultivation of brinjal and tomato during the winter seasons of 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2012-13. There were no significant differences of yields of brinjal between drip and furrow irrigations in the year 2010-11 in Gazipur and during 2011-12 in...

Innovative Technology of Egyptian Mosques by Using Solar Energy and Reusing Ablution Water in Sustainable Crop Production CIGR Journal
Ramadan, Abdelraouf.
Egypt is nowadays facing a lot of challenges, such as limited water and energy resources. In the near future and after building El-NAHDA Dam in Ethiopia, Egypt will suffer from a severe aqueous shortage. Another fatal problem is the unavailability of getting enough energy supplies. Here, the problem of energy is a natural consequence of unsustainable development of energy patterns followed during the last decades. There are many new water resources that have not been well exploited in agriculture. One of these resources is the ablution water in the Egyptian mosques. This new resource can be managed by solar (photovoltaic) energy, as Egypt has good weather with high rates of solar radiation which can reach up to 3000 hours/year. This study cared out to...

Soil water storage variability in a three-dimensional analysis in the root zone of irrigated melon Bragantia
Nascimento,Francisco Airdesson Lima do; Silva,Alisson Jadavi Pereira da; Campos,Allan Radax Freitas.
ABSTRACT A detailed knowledge of the soil water storage variability in the root zone can promote recommendations regarding the ideal positioning of sensors, as well as make the calculation of soil water balance more precise and accurate. This study aimed to assess soil water storage variability in the melon root zone and indicate – based on spatial variation of soil water storage – the regions of highest rootactivity of the melon crop in different development stages. Soil waterstorage was measured using time domain reflectometry (TDR) in 40 monitoring points. The data were daily collected in two periods: (i) immediately before irrigation and (ii) 30 min after irrigation. The soil water storage variation in the melon root zone occurs with greater intensity...

Mulching materials and wetted soil percentages on zucchini cultivation Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Silva,Gustavo Henrique da; Cunha,Fernando França da; Morais,Caio Vieira de; Freitas,Agnaldo Roberto de Jesus; Silva,Derly José Henriques da; Souza,Caetano Marciano de.
ABSTRACT Polyethylene mulch can cause serious problems in the environment. A promising alternative to polyethylene mulch is biodegradable mulch. Therefore, a two-year experiment was carried out with zucchini (Cucurbita pepo L.) during the cropping seasons of 2017 and 2018 in Southeast Brazil to investigate the effects of four soil mulching treatments (white polyethylene mulch: WP, black polyethylene mulch: BP, biodegradable mulch of brown recycled paper: RP and nonmulched: NM) and two wetted soil percentages (50 and 70% of the soil surface) using a randomized block design with five repetitions. The average water consumption of the zucchini was 157 mm in the WP treatment, 155 mm in the BP treatment, 155 mm in the WP treatment and 215 mm in the NM treatment....
