| Influence of flooding on terrestrial chironomids in grassland (Diptera: Chironomidae) Although flooding is an important factor for the invertebrate fauna of grassland, not much is published on this topic. As in other groups the different species of terrestrial Chironomidae display different reactions during flooding. Some larvae will move to drier parts, others remain on the spot. All species can survive for some time submerged in water, but the uptake of water can be a problem, especially in summer time. Some species are more or less characteristic for very wet grassland (like Metriocnemus tristellus), but nearly all species depend on the presence of drier parts of the grassland for maintenance of the population. |

| Verspreiding en ecologie van de worm Aulodrilus japonicus in Nederland (Oligochaeta: Tubificidae) De worm Aulodrilus japonicus Yamaguchi, 1953 is in 1997 voor het eerst in ons land herkend. Lange tijd is deze soort niet herkend vanwege de grote gelijkenis met de andere soorten in het genus, met name A. pluriseta. In dit artikel wordt een onderzoek naar de ecologie, verspreiding en levenscyclus in Nederland besproken. Daarnaast is de uitwendige morfologie onderzocht en is een determinatietabel voor de soorten van het genus Aulodrilus in Nederland opgesteld. | Changes to the Dutch list of weevils: Simo hirticornis to be deleted and S. variegatus to be added (Coleoptera: Curculionidae). Some years ago Palm (1995) discovered that the weevil ‘Simo hirticornis’ was a mixture of two species: S. hirticornis en S. variegatus. Dutch material from institutional collections as well as from some private collections was examined and it turned out that all Dutch specimens belong to S. variegatus. Therefore S. hirticornis must be deleted from the Dutch beetle list and replaced by S. variegatus. Information is presented on the occurrence of S. variegatus in the Netherlands. Diagnostic characters of both species are discussed. |

| Het vliegend hert is een beschermde keversoort met een lange ontwikkelingsduur tot volwassen insect, minimaal 4 tot zo’n 8 jaar, en een beperkte verspreidingscapaciteit. Deze beide facetten maken haar tot een kwetsbare soort. Daar komt bij dat de weinige vindplaatsen veelal geïsoleerd liggen waardoor de soort extra kwetsbaar is. Het oorspronkelijke verspreidingsgebied van het vliegend hert in Nederland is de afgelopen decennia teruggedrongen tot vijf kerngebieden. Twee hiervan liggen in ieder geval deels in de provincie Gelderland, waarmee deze provincie een centrale rol voor het behoud van deze soort inneemt. | Twenty-five years of ground beetle survey along the river Nederrijn near Arnhem (Carabidae) During the period 1975-1999 the author studied the ground beetle fauna of a river foreland south of the river Nederrijn, near Arnhem (provincie of Gelderland). The site was visited regularly while walking the dog, collecting the beetles by hand. Although the method was not very standardized, it yielded interesting results. In total 158 species were found, more than 40% of the Dutch fauna. Several species were found which are common in Central-Europe but are very rare in in the lowlands of Western Europe, like Bembidion modestum en B. fasciolatum. | Marine and estuarine amphipods of soft substrates in the Delta area of the Netherlands (Crustacea: Gammaridea) Records of 22 soft bottom amphipod species in the southwestern Delta area of the Netherlands are described, with short notes on habitat and colour pattern. Of four additional species which live in soft substrates as well as on hard substrates some new ecological data are given. During our studies in the period 1990-2000 four species new to the Delta area were found: Nototropis guttatus, Siphonoecetes kroyeranus, Harpinia pectinata and Tryphosella sarsi. | Beschermingsplan sprinkhanen en krekels in Limburg Sprinkhanen en krekels zijn relatief grote en door hun zang opvallende dieren. Naast de dagvlinders en libellen zijn ze de derde groep insecten die stevig zijn ingebed in het Nederlandse natuurbeleid en -beheer. Uit Limburg zijn 40 van de 45 Nederlandse soorten sprinkhanen en krekels bekend. In de loop van de 20e eeuw zijn vijf soorten uit de provincie verdwenen. Soorten als zadelsprinkhaan, veldkrekel, blauwvleugelsprinkhaan, zoemertje en schavertje zijn achteruit gegaan en enkele daarvan staan op het punt te verdwijnen. | The corticolous fauna of plane trees: ii. Springtails, barklice and ground beetles (Collembola, Psocoptera, Carabidae) From July 1999 until September 2001 an inventory was made of the bark-dwelling arthropod fauna of 450 plane trees (Platanus x hybrida), spread over 69 localities in the Netherlands. Arthropods were collected from bark and under bark fragments at a height of 160-175 cm from the ground. Crevices in the tree trunk and bark fragments represent a habitat for a large number of arthropods. | Copepods associated with marine invertebrates in the Netherlands (Crustacea: Copepoda) An overview is presented of all published observations of copepods associated with marine invertebrates in the Netherlands, supplemented with observations of the author. Twenty-eight species have been recorded, seven of which have been discovered since 1990. For four species mentioned in this article there were no autochthonous records from the Netherlands: Paranthessius anemoniae, Zygomolgus tenuifurcatus, Harrietella simulans and Donsiella limnoriae. |

| De gestreepte waterroofkever Graphoderus bilineatus in Nederland: een eerste inhaalslag De huidige verspreiding en de biotoop van de gestreepte waterroofkever Graphoderus bilineatus in Nederland zijn in 2004 en 2005 onderzocht. Uitgangspunt vormden de waarnemingen van deze soort in het bestand van EIS-Nederland sinds 1980 in 16 5x5-kilometerhokken, waarvan met voldoende zekerheid kon worden aangenomen dat deze betrouwbaar waren. In 12 van deze 16 hokken werd G. bilineatus teruggevonden met daarbij de volgende kanttekeningen: één hok is niet bezocht, in één hok was geen exacte vindplaats bekend en in één hok is de soort verdwenen.
