2,4-D Hormesis Effect on Soybean Planta Daninha
SILVA,J.R.O.; MARQUES,J.N.R.; GODOY,C.V.C.; BATISTA,L.B.; SILVA,A.A.; RONCHI,C.P..
ABSTRACT: The hormesis effect of 2,4-D, applied at two stages of soybean development, on the physiological components of crop yield, was investigated. Soybean seeds of the cultivar ‘AG 3680 IPRO’ were sown in pots containing 7 L of a substrate and kept in a greenhouse. A randomized complete block design with four replicates was used. Eighteen treatments were tested, arranged in a split-plot scheme. The plots consisted of two stages of herbicide application (V4 and V6), and the split-plots were arranged by nine 2,4-D doses (0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 40, and 50 g ha-1). At the time of harvest, 100 days after sowing, significant interactions between crop development stages and 2,4-D doses were observed for the number of nodes in the main stem (NNMS) and the...

Tolerance of eucalypt (Eucalyptus spp.) seedlings to imazapyr in nutritive solution Planta Daninha
Silva,C.M.M.; Ferreira,L.R.; Ferreira,F.A.; Miranda,G.V..
Imazapyr has presented excellent results in controlling coppices in stand reforms of eucalypt forests, despite differences in the efficacy levels. To find out whether these different responses are caused by the genetic variability of the cultivated materials, two experiments were carried out under greenhouse conditions with different imazapyr doses in a hydroponic system in plastic vases containing 2,500 mL solution. The clones IEF-1 (Eucalyptus grandis x Eucalyptus sp. hybrid), GE 463 (E. urophylla x E. grandis), and MN 445 (E. grandis x Eucalyptus sp. hybrid) were used in the first assay, and IEF-1, IEF2 (E. grandis x E. urophylla) x Eucalyptus sp. hybrid) and the clones 129 and 7182 (E. grandis x Eucalyptus sp. hybrids) in the second assay. Thirty days...

MATTE,W.D.; CAVALIERI,S.D.; PEREIRA,C.S.; IKEDA,F.S.; SHENG,L.Y..
ABSTRACT: Weed resistance to glyphosate in agricultural production systems has led to the need of applying herbicides with different mechanisms of action. However, the persistence of these herbicides in the soil can harm the subsequent crop. This study aimed to assess the effect of the residual activity of the herbicide sulfentrazone applied in pre-emergence of soybean on cotton in succession. The experimental design was a randomized block design with five replications, with seven doses of sulfentrazone (0, 37.5, 75, 150, 300, 600, and 1,200 g ha-1). Cotton was sown at 112 days after herbicide application (DAA), with an accumulated precipitation of 637 mm during soybean cycle. Variables related to photosynthetic characteristics, phytointoxication,...

DIFFERENTIAL TOLERANCE OF SUGARCANE CULTIVARS TO CLOMAZONE Planta Daninha
BARCELLOS JÚNIOR,L.H.; PEREIRA,G.A.M.; GONÇALVES,V.A.; MATOS,C.C.; SILVA,A.A..
ABSTRACT Weed control is one of the most relevant costs of sugarcane production. If weeds are not controlled at the right time, the productivity and longevity of sugarcane plantations are reduced. In this crop, chemical control is the most used method, since it is efficient and it has a lower cost. Differentiated tolerance of sugarcane cultivars to the herbicide clomazone has been observed in the fields. However, there is no scientific evidence of this effect on the productivity of crops. This study evaluated the effects of clomazone on three sugarcane cultivars (RB966928, RB93579 and RB867515). Herbicide application was performed 40 days after the emergence of sugarcane plants and 7, 14, 21 and 28 days after the application, the toxicity caused by the...

VITAL,R.G.; JAKELAITIS,A.; COSTA,A.C.; SILVA,F.B.; BATISTA,P.F..
ABSTRACT Chemical ripeners are frequently used on sugarcane crops in order to increase profitability. However, the drift of these products to neighbouring fields can expose susceptible non-target plants, such as sunflower, to these agents causing indirect impacts on growth and development. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the toxicity characterize possible changes in the growth of sunflower plants exposed to simulated drift of the ripeners glyphosate and trinexapac-ethyl. For each ripener, the following doses were used: glyphosate (0 (control), 3.6, 7.2, 14.4, 28.8 and 86.4 g a.e ha-1) and trinexapac-ethyl (0, 3.12, 6.25, 12.50, 25 and 75 g a.i ha-1). The effects of these products on plant height, number of leaves, leaf area, stem diameter and dry...

INFLUENCE OF THE GLYPHOSATE FORMULATIONS ON WETTABILITY AND EVAPORATION TIME OF DROPLETS ON DIFFERENT TARGETS Planta Daninha
OLIVEIRA,R. B.; DARIO,G.; ALVES,K. A.; GANDOLFO,M. A..
ABSTRACTEfficiency of weed control can be increased if the herbicide formulation provides higher target coverage and evaporation time that enable an adequate distribution of herbicide on the target plant, allowing the absorption to continue even after the droplets evaporation. The aim of this research was to assess the influence of glyphosate formulations on the wetted area and evaporation time of droplets on different targets. Tests were conducted with droplets sizing from 500 μm containing three formulations of glyphosate (isopropylamine salt, ammonium salt and potassium salt) deposited on three surfaces, two leaves (Bidens pilosa and Cenchrus echinatus) and glass slides. Sequential images analyses were used to quantify the evaporation time and the...

Atrazine and Mesotrione-Induced Oxidative Stress and Impact on Antioxidant Enzymes and Chlorophyll Contents in Bermudagrass Planta Daninha
WANG,Y.; YU,J.; ZHOU,B.; SAPKOTA,S.; WEI,F.; WANG,Z..
ABSTRACT: The effect of atrazine, mesotrione, and joint activity of atrazine plus mesotrione on pigment, lipid peroxidation, and antioxidant enzyme activity was studied. Atrazine and mesotrione treatments significantly reduced chlorophyll a (Chl a), chlorophyll b (Chl b), carotenoid concentrations, and protein content in bermudagrass (Cynodon dactylon L.) plants, whereas they significantly enhanced lipid peroxidation. The treatment of atrazine plus mesotrione caused greater phototoxic effect on bermudagrass than either herbicide alone, which was evident from the significantly decreased membrane stability noted as a function of the enhanced singlet oxygen and malondialdehyde (MDA) contents, as well as from the greater reduction in Chl a, Chl b, and...

A better method for determination of shikimate in plant tissues is needed to monitor exposure of plants to the herbicide glyphosate [N-(phosphonomethyl)glycine] and to screen the plant kingdom for high levels of this valuable phytochemical precursor to the pharmaceutical oseltamivir. A simple, rapid, and efficient method using microwave-assisted extraction (MWAE) with water as the extraction solvent was developed for the determination of shikimic acid in plant tissues. High performance liquid chromatography was used for the separation of shikimic acid, and chromatographic data were acquired using photodiode array detection. This MWAE technique was successful in recovering shikimic acid from a series of fortified plant tissues at more than 90% efficiency...

CHEMICAL CONTROL OF WHITE CLOVER IN SOYBEAN CROPS Planta Daninha
SCHUSTER,M. Z.; PELISSARI,A.; SZYMCZAK,L. S.; LUSTOSA,S. B. C.; MORAES,A..
ABSTRACTWhite clover is tolerant to many herbicides, making difficult a chemical control of this species during soybean crop establishments. The objective of this research was to select herbicides applied postemergence to control white clover in soybean and know the effects of this control on soybean yield. Seven herbicides were assessed, applied postemergence, with or without sequential application of glyphosate, and two control treatments (no control and total control of white clover). Glyphosate (with two sequential applications), fomesafen (with a sequential application of glyphosate), chlorimuron-ethyl and lactofen have shown a satisfactory control of white clover (above 80%). The lower control efficiency has resulted in lower production of soybeans.
