Recent changes in the Dutch Heteroptera fauna (Insecta: Hemiptera) At present 610 species of Heteroptera are recorded from the Netherlands. The database of the Dutch bureau of the European Invertebrate Survey currently includes about 130 000 Dutch records (combinations of locality and species). The records, however, are strongly biased towards aquatic and semiaquatic species (72 761 records of 64 species = 1137 records/species) in comparison with terrestrial species (55 375 records of 545 species = 101 records/species). Although since about 1850 there have always been Dutch heteropterists, collecting efforts show large differences in time and place and it is for instance easy to locate both residences and favourite holiday resorts of heteropterists from... |

A small lot of Phymatidae (except Phymatinae) from the Rijksmusem van Natuurlijke Historie, Leiden, and a few specimens from the Instituut voor Taxonomische Zoölogie, Amsterdam, the British Museum (Natural History), London, and the Natal Museum, Pietermaritzburg, have been studied. The following new species are described: Themonocoris aethiopicus spec. nov. (Ethiopia), Lophoscutus sagimani spec. nov. (Suriname), Lophoscutus brasiliensis spec. nov. (Brazil), Lophoscutus geijskesi spec. nov. (Saba, Lesser Antilles). The male of Oxythyreus cylindricornis Westwood, 1841 is described for the first time (Natal), and additional records are given for other Phymatidae. |

The Indo-Papuan family Velocipedidae Bergroth, 1891 (Heteroptera) is revised; a new genus, 19 new species and four new subspecies are described. Costomedes gen. nov. (type species: C. gressitti spec. nov.) comprises 11 new species: C. cheesmanae from New Guinea, C. fakfakensis from New Guinea, C. gazelle from New Britain and Bismarck Archipelago, C. gressitti from New Guinea, C. heissi from Ceram, C. hirsutus from New Guinea, C. karimui from New Guinea (including one new subspecies: C. karimui eliptamin from New Guinea), C. morobensis from New Guinea, C. sedlaceki from New Guinea, C. solomonensis from the Solomon Islands and C. toxopeusi from New Guinea. The following eight new species are described in the genus Scotomedes Stål, 1873: S. distanti from... |

This is the first record on the invasion of the Neotropical brown stink bug, Euschistus heros (F.) in Paraná County (latitude 31º 51' 9.6" S, longitude 60º 32' 11.2" W), Entre Ríos province, Argentina. Five adults were intercepted in 2009/2010, one in crop residues and four on soybean fields. The expanding range in the distribution of E. heros in the Southern Hemisphere is believed to be due to the increased commercial trade among countries, increase in the area cultivated with soybean, and the adoption of no-tillage cropping systems. |

During March 2000, nymphs and adults of the cyrtocorid bugs Cyrtocoris egeris Packauskas & Schaefer and C. trigonus (Germar) were observed on two different plants at two different localities. In Brazil (Londrina, Paraná State) adult C. trigonus were found feeding on stems of the weed plant arrow leaf sida, Sida rhombifolia L. (Malvaceae). Despite egg deposition in the laboratory, nymphs did not develop on this plant. In Argentina (Reconquista, Santa Fé Province), nymphs and adults of C. egeris were observed feeding on immature soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merrill] pods. Under laboratory conditions, nymphs of neither species could be reared beyond the third instar. |

Laboratory studies with 1st instar of southern green stink bug, Nezara viridula (L.) indicated that relative humidity (RH) greatly affected nymph emergence and survivorship up to the 2nd instar, reaching the maximum value (<FONT FACE=Symbol>»</FONT> 90%) with RH of > 80%. At 60% RH, 60% of the nymphs emerged and survived, while with 0% RH only <FONT FACE=Symbol>»</FONT> 15% of eggs hatched, and most nymphs died. Emerged nymphs from egg masses placed in plastic boxes with a gradient of humidity remained on egg shells for ca. one day. After this period, they dispersed and regrouped on top of shells 6.8 ± 0.67 times, until they abandoned the shells toward the source of humidity, avoiding the water-saturated areas. Duration taken for... |

Asopines are predators of insects, with several species with potential as biocontrol agents of a number of pests. Metrogaleruca obscura (Degeer), a neotropical species of Galerucini, was introduced in Malaysia, Asia, and Mauritius, Africa, to control the spread of Cordia curassavica (Boraginaceae), a native plant of the neotropics. The occurrence of Podisus nigrispinus (Dallas) preying on M. obscura is recorded, and Cordia verbenacea (Boraginaceae) is mentioned as a host plant for M. obscura. A list of Chrysomelidae attacked by asopines in the neotropical region is also presented. |

We recognize two species in Neomegalotomus, N. parvus (Westwood), the type species; and N. rufipes (Westwood). The two species are redescribed from type specimens, and are keyed. We synonymize the following species with Neomegalotomus parvus: N. simplex (Westwood), N. latifascia (Berg), and N. pallescens (Stål) (all new synonymies). We synonymize N. jamaicensis (Westwood) with N. rufipes (new synonymy). The type specimens of all species hitherto placed in the genus are also redescribed, except those of N. debilis (Walker) and N. vicinus (Westwood). N. parvus occurs from México through Central America into northern Argentina and east into Venezuela and adjacent Caribbean islands. N. rufipes is widespread in the Caribbean south towards Venezuela. The two... |

Ninfas e adultos... |
