Influence of one selected Tisochrysis lutea strain rich in lipids on Crassostrea gigas larval development and biochemical composition ArchiMer

Effects of a remarkably high overall lipid Tisochrysis lutea strain (T+) upon gross biochemical composition, fatty acid (FA), sterol and lipid class composition of Crassostrea gigas larvae were evaluated and compared with a normal strain of Tisochrysis lutea (T) and the diatom Chaetoceros neogracile (Cg). In a first experiment, the influence of different single diets (T, T+ and Cg) and a bispecific diet (TCg) was studied, whereas, effects of monospecific diets (T and T+) and bispecific diets (TCg and T+Cg) were evaluated in a second experiment. Adaptations biochimiques intestinales chez la truite: Influence de l'aliment et de la salinite sur quelques proprietes membranaires ArchiMer

The authors report the results of physiological and biochemical experiments which confirm the important role player by fish (Salmo gairdneri ) intestinal mucosa in their osmoregulatory process. The ability of the dietary lipids to modulate this function is described. It was demonstrated that the ionic apical permeability of the enterocytes are related to their membrane lipid composition. The importance of the essential fatty acids is emphasized. The time course changes of the apical permeability are of value in improving sea water adaptation, similar conclusions are reported for Nacl supplementation.

The aim of this thesis is to improve knowledge on mechanisms involved in the response to nitrogen limitation and in lipid accumulation in the microalgae haptophyte Tisochrysis lutea. The wild type strain and a lipid accumulating mutant strain were grown under different nitrogen limitation and starvation and analyzed by functional genomics. Four genes of high-affinity nitrate/nitrite transporter (Nrt2) were identified and characterized to reveal the mechanisms involved in mineral absorption in this species. Hydrolysis and ultrafiltration techniques have been investigated. Reference diet for crustaceans: Principle of experimentation. ArchiMer

Feeding trials were conducted with over 22 different crustacean species to compare the potential use of two diets as Standard Reference Diets (SRD) in crustacean research. The two diets (BML 81 S, a casein/albumin based formula developed at the University of California, Bodega Marine Laboratory, and HFX CRD 84, a crab protein concentrate based diet formulated at the Canadian Department of Fisheries and Oceans Halifax Laboratory) were about equal in performance for most species tested. Though neither diet was an ideal SRD, the HFX CRD 84 formulation based upon a purified protein of marine origin was accepted as the interim SRD for use in aquatic crustacean studies.

In the natural environment bivalve larvae are exposed to variable conditions and can therefore face periods of food shortage. To understand the resistance of early life stages of Pacific oyster (Crassostrea gigas), larvae were experimentally starved for 4 days at different periods of their development, and the resulting variations in their lipid reserves then analysed using image analysis and biochemical techniques. Faced with a temporary lack of food, the larvae halted their growth in size and weight and started to live off their lipid reserves; this effect was highly marked when the period of food deprivation was at the beginning of larval rearing, but was less marked when food deprivation was after day 14. A marine-related Trichoderma longibrachiatum strain isolated from mussels in a farming shellfish area was investigated for total lipid (TL) production, total lipid fatty acids (TLFA), and phospholipid fatty acids (PLFA). Fungal biomass was produced from two different marine-like culture ways, on agar surface and submerged fermentations (ASF and SmF, respectively), allowing useful comparisons. The long chain fatty acids resulting from intraluminal hydrolysis are esterified by the epithelial cells and transferred as VLDL-like particles and chylomicrons to lymph. Allelochemicals from Alexandrium minutum induce rapid inhibition of metabolism and modify the membranes from Chaetoceros muelleri ArchiMer

Allelochemical interactions are likely to be a contributing factor explaining the success of large blooms of the harmful marine dinoflagellate Alexandrium, however, the physiological mechanisms of allelochemical interactions remain poorly described. Here we investigated the sub-lethal effects (on an hourly scale) of a filtrate containing allelochemicals from Alexandrium minutum on the physiology of the common diatom Chaetoceros muelleri. The filtrate induced deleterious effects to the diatom physiology within only 30 min of exposure. ABSTRACT This study aimed at analyzing the energetic substrate (ES) in the main storage tissues of Steindachneridion parahybae, throughout the reproductive cycle in captivity. Differently from wild, in captivity, feeding is not interrupted during the reproductive period, the females do not spawn spontaneously, and they are sedentary. Adult females were sampled monthly and based on their histology and gonadosomatic index (GSI), ovaries were classified into: previtellogenic (PRV), vitellogenic (VTG), and regression (REG) stages.
