Lyashuk, Oleh Leontiyovych; Vovk, Yuriy Yaroslavovych; Sokil, Bohdan; Klendii, Volodymyr; Ivasechko, Roman; Dovbush, Taras.
The results of theoretical studies of simultaneous transporting  the components of feed mixtures along the curvilinear paths of tubular conveyors are presented in this article. The mathematical model of a technological process of moving a bulk material (grain) by means of a cable with a connected scraper is proposed. The model is presented as a system of elastic one-dimensional bodies, which are seamlessly moved by a bulk material. Nonlinear differential equations with partial derivatives that describe the dynamics of horizontal and vertical lines of a tube conveyor under the corresponding boundary conditions are deduced. Based on researches, the technique of determining the technological parameters, which ensure the reduction of energy consumption while...

Rupasinghe, chintha Priyangani; Jayasinghe, Udara; Sugathapala, Thusitha.
Safe moisture of a product is important in drying of agricultural products to prevent it from deterioration. The equilibrium moisture content (EMC) is an important parameter in modeling and simulation of drying process. The objectives of the research are development of an EMC curve for Agricultural Products; bitter gourd (Momordica charantia) and papaya (Carica papaya) and to test the suitability of mathematical models of modified Henderson’s equations. The study is performed on the basis of adsorption of moisture content, at three temperatures (30, 40 & 50°C) and four relative humidity (Rh) (10, 30, 50 and 80%). Salt solutions with concentrations were used to maintain Rh. The statistical analysis was done to find the best model and the significant...

Extension model of lactation curves to evaluate the effect of the recombinant bovine somatotropin on milk yield in Holstein cows Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Palacios-Espinosa,A.; Espinoza-Villavicencio,J.L.; de Luna,R.; Guillén,A.; Avila,N.Y..
An extension model of lactation curves was used to determine the effect of recombinant bovine somatotropin (bST-r) on milk yield in Holstein dairy cattle. This model use the fitted values obtained by the Wood model, and was tested on the records of 66 cows. The milk yield predicted with the extension model and the observed yield were compared and no significant differences were observed (P>0.05). Once the extension model was validated, the milk yield tests of 199 cows were used. The cows received bST-r 500mg by subcutaneous injections. The injections were applied after 100 days in milk at 14-day intervals (seven injections). The observed milk yield was compared with the yield expected by the extension model. An increase of 5.3% was observed in milk...

A Mathematical Model for the Removal of Organic Mater in Stabilization Ponds BABT
Medri,Waldir; Medri,Vandir.
This work presents an application to systemize the construction of ponds systems for treatment of domestic sewage. It consisted of two anaerobic ponds operated in parallel during May/97 to April/99. These were connected in series with a chicaned facultative pond. The treatment system was controlled with samples collected from the crude sewage (compound sample), in the affluents and effluents of the ponds and along the flux of the anaerobic and facultative ponds. The following parameters were analyzed: pH, Biochemical Oxygen Demand, Chemical Oxygen Demand, Total Solids, Sedimentable Solids, Total Coliforms, Oxygen Consumed in Acid Medium (OCAM) and temperature.

Uptake of cadmium by Pseudokirchneriella supcapitata BABT
Casiraghi,Magela Paula; Luporini,Samuel; Silva,Eduardo Mendes da.
In this work the microalgae Pseudokirchneriella supcapitata was used for the removal of the cadmium in liquids. The accumulations of metal ions by the alga occur in two stages: a very fast absorption (passive adsorption) proceeded by a slower absorption (activate absorption). A mathematical model based on the surface absorption and on the transport into the interior of the cellular membrane was developed. The simulation model kinetic parameters were experimentally obtained. Through the results observed, the mathematical model was shown to be suitable when compared to the experimental results, confirming the validation of the mathematical model.

Glucose isomerization in simulated moving bed reactor by Glucose isomerase BABT
Silva,Eduardo Alberto Borges da; Souza,Antônio Augusto Ulson de; Rodrigues,Alírio Egídio; Souza,Selene Maria Arruda Guelli Ulson de.
Studies were carried out on the production of high-fructose syrup by Simulated Moving Bed (SMB) technology. A mathematical model and numerical methodology were used to predict the behavior and performance of the simulated moving bed reactors and to verify some important aspects for application of this technology in the isomerization process. The developed algorithm used the strategy that considered equivalences between simulated moving bed reactors and true moving bed reactors. The kinetic parameters of the enzymatic reaction were obtained experimentally using discontinuous reactors by the Lineweaver-Burk technique. Mass transfer effects in the reaction conversion using the immobilized enzyme glucose isomerase were investigated. In the SMB reactive system,...

Population dynamics of Pseudomonas sp. along a spatial gradient of phosphate: an experimental approach for spatial ecology BJB
CODEÇO,C. T.; GROVER,J. P..
Many theoretical models have been proposed to study the effect of space on population dynamics and interactions, but most of them are difficult to translate into experimental setups due to their abstract nature. Here we defend the gradostat as a valuable experimental tool for testing such theories. The gradostat is a culture system with bi-directional flow that forms nutrient gradients at steady state. In this study, we use a 3-vessel gradostat with a phosphate gradient to study the effect of spatial heterogeneity on the spatial distribution of Pseudomonas sp., an heterotrophic aquatic bacterium. The observed distributions partially agree with theoretical predictions, obtained from a mathematical model.

A simple mathematical model to determine the ideal empirical antibiotic therapy for bacteremic patients BJID
Tuon,Felipe F.; Rocha,Jaime L.; Leite,Talita M.; Dias,Camila.
BACKGROUND: Local epidemiological data are always helpful when choosing the best antibiotic regimen, but it is more complex than it seems as it may require the analysis of multiple combinations. The aim of this study was to demonstrate a simplified mathematical calculation to determine the most appropriate antibiotic combination in a scenario where monotherapy is doomed to failure. METHODS: The susceptibility pattern of 11 antibiotics from 216 positive blood cultures from January 2012 to January 2013 was analyzed based on local policy. The length of hospitalization before bacteremia and the unit (ward or intensive care unit) were the analyzed variables. Bacteremia was classified as early, intermediate or late. The antibiotics were combined according to the...

The effect of an aerobic training program on the electrical remodeling of the heart: high-frequency components of the signal-averaged electrocardiogram are predictors of the maximal aerobic power BJMBR
Marocolo,M.; Nadal,J.; Benchimol-Barbosa,P.R..
Increased heart rate variability (HRV) and high-frequency content of the terminal region of the ventricular activation of signal-averaged ECG (SAECG) have been reported in athletes. The present study investigates HRV and SAECG parameters as predictors of maximal aerobic power (VO2max) in athletes. HRV, SAECG and VO2max were determined in 18 high-performance long-distance (25 ± 6 years; 17 males) runners 24 h after a training session. Clinical visits, ECG and VO2max determination were scheduled for all athletes during thew training period. A group of 18 untrained healthy volunteers matched for age, gender, and body surface area was included as controls. SAECG was acquired in the resting supine position for 15 min and processed to extract average RR interval...

Comparison of anaerobic threshold determined by visual and mathematical methods in healthy women BJMBR
Higa,M.N.; Silva,E.; Neves,V.F.C.; Catai,A.M.; Gallo Jr.,L.; Silva de Sá,M.F..
Several methods are used to estimate anaerobic threshold (AT) during exercise. The aim of the present study was to compare AT obtained by a graphic visual method for the estimate of ventilatory and metabolic variables (gold standard), to a bi-segmental linear regression mathematical model of Hinkley's algorithm applied to heart rate (HR) and carbon dioxide output (VCO2) data. Thirteen young (24 ± 2.63 years old) and 16 postmenopausal (57 ± 4.79 years old) healthy and sedentary women were submitted to a continuous ergospirometric incremental test on an electromagnetic braking cycloergometer with 10 to 20 W/min increases until physical exhaustion. The ventilatory variables were recorded breath-to-breath and HR was obtained beat-to-beat over real time. Data...

Embedded system in Arduino platform with Fuzzy control to support the grain aeration decision Ciência Rural
Szesz Junior,Albino; Monteiro Junior,Marcos; Dias,Ariangelo Hauer; Mathias,Ivo Mário; Conti,Giuvane.
ABSTRACT: Aeration is currently the most commonly used technique to improve the drying and storage of grain, depending on temperature and water content of the grain, as of the temperature and relative humidity of the outside air. In order to monitor temperature and humidity of the grain mass, it is possible to have a network of sensors in the cells of both internal and external storage. Use of artificial intelligence through Fuzzy theory, has been used since the 60s and enables their application on various forms. Thus, it is observed that the aeration of grain in function of representing a system of controlled environment can be studied in relation to the application of this theory. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to present an embedded Fuzzy control...

Reading model to estimate optimum economic intakes of amino acids for poultry Ciência Rural
Silva,Edney Pereira da; Sakomura,Nilva Kazue; Hauschild,Luciano; Gous,Robert Mervyn.
The use of a linear-plateau procedure to describe the response of an individual in the population has theoretical support, since the maximum potential performance of each individual is genetically determined, and any increment in intake of the limiting nutrient above maintenance will result in a linear response in output until this genetic potential, and hence requirement, is reached. However, because of the distribution of body weights and maximum potential outputs in the population, the mean response of the population is curvilinear, which negates the possibility of defining a 'requirement' for the limiting nutrient, and instead leads to the possibility of defining an optimum economic intake of the nutrient.. The Reading model describes the response of a...

Randomized branch sampling to estimatefruit production in Pecan trees cv. ‘Barton’ Ciência Rural
Mokochinski,Filemom Manoel; Watzlawick,Luciano Farinha; Botelho,Renato Vasconcelos; Moreira,Vanessa.
ABSTRACT: Sampling techniques to quantify the production of fruits are still very scarce and create a gap in crop development research. This study was conducted in a rural property in the county of Cachoeira do Sul - RS to estimate the efficiency of randomized branch sampling (RBS) in quantifying the production of pecan fruit at three different ages (5,7 and 10 years). Two selection techniques were tested: the probability proportional to the diameter (PPD) and the uniform probability (UP) techniques, which were performed on nine trees, three from each age and randomly chosen. The RBS underestimated fruit production for all ages, and its main drawback was the high sampling error (125.17% - PPD and 111.04% - UP). The UP was regarded as more efficient than...
