Surimyia, a new genus of Microdontinae (Diptera: Syrphidae) is described, based on specimens from Suriname. Surimyia is the only known genus of Syrphidae in which the katatergum (ventral part of lateral postnotal sclerite of mesonotum) lacks microtrichia. Within Microdontinae, the genus is unique in the absence of pilosity on the postpronotum. It is also remarkable in the presence of strong, black setae on thorax and abdomen, a character rarely found in Syrphidae. The genus is superficially similar in external morphology and colouration to Paragodon Thompson, 1969, but clearly different in the characters mentioned above, as well as in the structure of the male genitalia. Two species are assigned to Surimyia: S. minutula (van Doesburg, 1966) and S.... |

Fresh material, type studies and molecular phylogeny were used to clarify phylogenetic relationships of the nine genera Acrocordiella, Blogiascospora, Clypeosphaeria, Hymenopleella, Lepteutypa, Pseudapiospora, Requienella, Seiridium and Strickeria. At first sight, some of these genera do not seem to have much in common, but all were found to belong to the Xylariales, based on their generic types. Thus, the most peculiar finding is the phylogenetic affinity of the genera Acrocordiella, Requienella and Strickeria, which had been classified in the Dothideomycetes or Eurotiomycetes, to the Xylariales. Acrocordiella and Requienella are closely related but distinct genera of the Requienellaceae. Although their ascospores are similar to those of Lepteutypa,... |

A new genus is split off the genus Craspedolcus Enderlein, 1920 (Hymenoptera, Braconidae, Braconinae): Maculibracon gen. n. with type species Maculibracon abruptus sp. n. The genus Craspedolcus Enderlein sensu stricto is redefined, a key to both genera and to their species in China, Thailand and Vietnam is included. Craspedolcus obscuriventris Enderlein, 1920, (syn. n.) is a new synonym of C. vagatus (Smith, 1858), as Ipobracon maculicosta Enderlein, 1920 and Iphiaulax bhotanensis Cameron, 1907 of Maculibracon simlaensis (Cameron, 1899), comb. n. The genus Craspedolcus is recorded from China for the first time with two species: Craspedolcus fraternus Enderlein, 1920, and C. politus sp. n. The genus Maculibracon is represented by three species in China: M.... |

The Pterophoridae (Ochyroticinae, Deuterocopinae, Pterophorinae (Tribus: Platyptiliini, Exelastini, Oxyptilini)) species of the Neotropical fauna are reviewed. The species are redescribed. Moths are illustrated in colour for the first time, their genitalia are illustrated in line drawings. The examination of type specimens revealed the presence of four new synonyms: Platyptilia juanvinas Gielis, 1999, is a junior synonym of Platyptilia gravior Meyrick, 1932; Platyptilia jonesi Gielis, 1996, is a junior synonym of Platyptilia semnopis Meyrick, 1931; Oxyptilus maleficus Meyrick, 1926, is a junior synonym of Leptodeuterocopus neales (Walsingham, 1915); Lioptilus parvus Walsingham, 1880, is a junior synonym of Lioptilodes albistriolatus (Zeller, 1871). A study of the genus Leucosia Weber, 1795, revealed subdivisions within the genus. A new genus, Euclosia, is established for L. crosnieri Chen, 1989, L. obtusifrons de Haan, 1841, L. rotundifrons Chopra, 1934, and L. unidentata de Haan, 1841 and five new species: E. concinna, E. exquisita, E. nitida, E. scitula, and E. tornatilia. They differ from all other species heretofore assigned to Leucosia in having anterior margin of thoracic sinus puckered, loop-shaped. The species are described or redescribed and illustrated, extended synonymies, geographical distribution and habitat are given, and a key for their identification is provided. |

A new genus, Asiaephorus, is recognised and described, with Platyptilia sythoffi Snellen, 1903, as its type-species. Asiaephorus sythoffi (Snellen) comb. nov., is redescribed and a lectotype is designated. A second species, A. longicucullus spec. nov., from Nepal, India and Japan is described. The genus has an East and South-Eastern Palaearctic and North Oriental distribution. |

The three tribes of Heteropteryginae Kirby, 1896 occurring in Borneo are nocturnal, and ground dwelling species, easily found in both primary and secondary rainforest. The subfamily is reviewed, with keys and redescriptions of all Bornean species; one new species of a predominantly Bornean genus is described from the Philippines. Lectotypes have been selected for a number of species. The eggs of 17 species are described and illustrated. Distribution maps are given for all species. Many of the species have been collected by the author and reared in the United Kingdom; some observations on their natural history and behaviour are included. In the tribe Heteropterygini the synonymy has been re-examined with a revision to the status of several taxa. The five... |

Lohowia koosi, a new species and new genus in the family Alcyoniidae, is described from Lord Howe Island, Australia. The new taxon has dimorphic polyps and a similar morphology to some of the flat, lobe-less nominal species of Lobophytum. The new taxon is clearly distinguished, however, by the possession of large, heavily armed autozooids, polypary surface sclerites in the form of large spindles that protrude through the surface, extremely large interior sclerites and base surface sclerites in the form of rods, spindles and ovals. |

The subfamily Euphorinae (excluding the tribe Meteorini Cresson) (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) from China is revised. In total 150 species, belonging to 24 genera, are treated and keyed. One genus (Heia gen. nov.; type species: Heia robustipes spec. nov.) and 69 species are described as new to science. Seven genera and 16 species are new to the fauna of China. Three genera (Euphorus Nees, 1834, Leiophron Nees, 1818, and Peristenus Foerster, 1862) are redefined. The subgeneric division of the genus Streblocera Westwood is reassessed and one new subgenus (Villocera subgen. nov.; type species: Streblocera villosa Papp, 1985) is proposed. The following synonyms are established: Euphoriella Ashmead, 1900, with Leiophron Nees, 1818; Aridelus hunanensis You, Xiong... |

As a result of a revision of the genus Parapagurus Smith, three genera are proposed: Parapagurus sensu stricto, Strobopagurus gen. nov., and Sympagurus Smith reinstated. Diagnoses of the three genera are given, and a number of structures are described. A key to aid in the identification of the genera of the family is presented. All taxa heretofore assigned to Parapagurus are reassigned. Four species of Parapagurus and six of Sympagurus occur in the western Atlantic, including a new species, Sympagurus acinops. All western Atlantic species are redescribed. Parapagurus abyssorum (Filhol) is a senior homonym of the eastern Pacific Parapagurus abyssorum Henderson, and a new name, Parapagurus holthuisi, is given to Henderson's taxon. The subspecies of... |
