Measuring physical properties of crops is necessary for optimal harvesting, cleaning, threshing, sorting, drying, and milling operations. Despite an extensive literature review, there is no information about the physical properties of the wild safflower seed. In this study the physical properties of the wild safflower seed have been investigated as a function of moisture content at four levels (5.4%, 9.4% (initial), 13.4%, and 17.4% d.b.). Abstract Parboiling is a pre-dehulling operation and, the effect on the physical properties of African breadfruit seed (var. africana) was investigated. Freshly extracted seeds were parboiled for 0 (control), 5, 10, 15, and 20 minutes, and their physical properties determined. It was observed that parboiling time had a significant effect (p<0.05) on all the physical properties of African breadfruit seeds investigated. The moisture content of the seed ranged from 32.92±0.23 to 50.78±0.19 % (w.b.) as the parboiling time increased. Some moisture-dependent physical properties of sour-sop seed were investigated. Results of experiments on rewetted sour-sop seed showed increasing in length, width, thickness, arithmetic and geometric mean diameter, volume, surface area, sphericity, and 1000 seeds weight from 14.91-15.69, 8.71-9.24, 5.39-5.56, 9.67 - 10.16, 8.81 - 9.27 mm, 0.57 – 11.67 cm3, 244.98 - 270.89 mm2, 0.56 - 0.59 and 255.7 – 285 g, respectively within moisture range of 8 – 32.5% (db). The large cardamom is one of the most important spice crops grown in Himalayan region of Sikkim, India. The capsules of the harvested large cardamom are dried before consumption. The paper presents the physical properties of freshly harvested and dried large cardamom capsules. The geometrical mean diameter, sphericity, bulk density and mean values of angle of repose of the freshly harvested large cardamom capsules were observed to be 18.53±1.73 mm, 0.76, 332.21±14.24 kg m-3 and 28.74±4.04°, respectively. The present study was undertaken to investigate the effect of moisture content on engineering properties of OL-09 variety of oat grains. Different engineering properties such as length, width, thickness, geometric mean diameter, volume, surface area, sphericity, bulk density, true density, porosity, angle of repose and angle of internal and external friction were determined in a moisture range of 8%-14% (wet basis, w.b) using standard methods. Some physical and mechanical properties of Luffa (L. cylindrica) seeds were investigated at five different moisture content levels of 6%, 12%, 18%, 24% and 30%.
