Yield and fruit quality of peach scion by using rootstocks propagated by air layering and seed Scientia Agricola
Picolotto,Luciano; Fachinello,José Carlos; Bianchi,Valmor João; Manica-Berto,Roberta; Pasa,Mateus da Silveira; Schmitz,Juliano Dutra.
In rootstock propagation, several methods can be used; however few practices are adopted due to the lack of information about the behavior of stionic combinations at field. The work aimed to compare the propagation method by air layering with the traditional propagation system by seeds using the scion peach [Prunus persica (L.) Batsch] cultivar Granada. The following variables were measured: yield, fruit weight and size, skin color, flesh firmness, total soluble solids content (TSS) and titatrable acidity (TA), TSS/TA ratio, total phenols, trunk diameter and pruning mass. Yield, total phenols and titatrable acidity were higher when using the air layering propagation. There was no difference between propagation methods regarding color and diameter of fruit,...

Rooting Platanus (Platanus acerifolia (Aiton) Willd.) cuttings in Marechal Cândido Rondon - PR, Brazil: Influence of lesions at cutting bases and depth of planting Acta Agron. (Palmira)
Rosa,Danimar Dalla; Tres,Gessika; Broti-Rissato,Bruna; Lorenzetti,Eloisa; Guimarães,Vandeir Francisco; Feiden,Armin.
Abstract Platanus, an arboreal and deciduous plant, is widely adapted and can be used for several purposes. Despite producing viable seeds, production of platanus seedlings usually occurs through vegetative propagation; cuttings are the best and most efficient source for obtaining seedlings. Although cuttings offer a practical and easy method to obtain seedlings in different vegetable species, they are influenced by several factors, both external and internal. The present study aimed to analyze the behavior of plantain cuttings planted in sand subjected to damage or no damage at the cuttings base, and planted at depths of 20 and 40 cm. Experiment was carried out at the experimental station of horticulture and protected cultivation of UNIOESTE-Brazil, in a...

Seedlings production of two tomato (Solanum licopersicum L.) cultivars under different environments and substrates Acta Agron. (Palmira)
Monteiro Neto,João Luiz Lopes; Araújo,Wellington Farias; Oliveira Vilarinho,Lucianne Braga; de Oliveira Nunes,Taline Katlen; da Silva,Edgley Soares; da Silva Maia,Sonicley; Albuquerque,José de Anchieta Alves de; Alves Chagas,Edvan; da Silva Siqueira,Raphael Henrique; Abanto-Rodriguez,Carlos.
Abstract The type of environment and substrates quality in seedlings production are essential for the production of productive plants under field conditions. In order to determine the best environment and substrate for seedlings production of two tomato cultivars (IPA 06 and Santamélia), two experiments, completely randomized and arranged in subdivided plots with five replicates, were conducted under the environmental conditions of Boa Vista, Roraima, Brazil. Treatments consisted of the association among five environments (A1 - greenhouse, A2 - Chromatinet ® 35% red, A3 - Chromatinet ® 50% red, A4 - Chromatinet ® 35% Silver and A5 - Chromatinet ® 50% Silver) and four substrates S1 - OrganoAmazon®; S2 -OrganoAmazon® + PuroHumus®; S3 - OrganoAmazon® +...

In vitro propagation of avocado (Persea americana Mill.) cv. Hass through morphogenesis Acta Agron. (Palmira)
Restrepo Osorio,Catalina; Gómez Velásquez,Felipe Andrés; Gil Correal,Alejandro; Torres Bonilla,Javier Mauricio; Urrea Trujillo,Aura Inés.
Abstract Given the importance and potential development of avocado (Persea americana Mill.) cultivation in Colombia and its problems for an efficient field cultivation, which includes the genetic variability of propagated material and adverse phytosanitary conditions, the aim of this study was to develop a method for in vitro clonal propagation for avocado cv. Hass. In vitro introduction of apical explants and nodal segments was carried out from grafted parent plants. Etiolation pretreatment effect on the number of shoots formed and in vitro phenolization was evaluated in grafted parent plants and in explants under in vitro conditions, subject to photoperiod (12/12 hours) and darkness. Darkness conditions reduced significantly plant phenolization, and...

Sustainable production of bioactive alkaloids in Psychotria L. of southern Brazil: propagation and elicitation strategies Acta Botanica
Magedans,Yve Verônica da Silva; Rodrigues-Corrêa,Kelly Cristine da Silva; Costa,Cibele Tesser da; Matsuura,Hélio Nitta; Fett-Neto,Arthur Germano.
ABSTRACT Psychotria is the largest genus in Rubiaceae. South American species of the genus are promising sources of natural products, mostly due to bioactive monoterpene indole alkaloids they accumulate. These alkaloids can have analgesic, antimutagenic, and antioxidant activities in different experimental models, among other pharmacological properties of interest. Propagation of genotypes with relevant pharmaceutical interest is important for obtaining natural products in a sustainable and standardized fashion. Besides the clonal propagation of elite individuals, the alkaloid content of Psychotria spp. can also be increased by applying moderate stressors or stress-signaling molecules. This review explores advances in research on methods for plant...

Shoot growth restriction in dry matter partitioning andminituber production of potato plants Ciência Rural
Bisognin,Dilson Antônio; Dellai,Jacso.
The aim of this research was to determine the effect of shoot growth restriction in the dry matter partitioning and minituber production of potato plants grown in a closed soilless system. Minitubers of the cultivars 'Macaca' and 'Asterix' were planted in the greenhouse in the density of 100 hills m-2, during autumn and spring growing seasons. Growth restriction levels were gotten by pruning shoots at 10, 20 and 30cm height or without pruning. The growth restriction levels were identified by their respective leaf area index. The experiment was a factorial (cultivars x growth restriction x growing season) in a random design, with four replications. Growth restriction affected the dry matter production of potato plants in both growing seasons and cultivars....

Concentration of nutrient solution in the hydroponic production of potato minitubers Ciência Rural
Novella,Manuel Benito; Andriolo,Jerônimo Luiz; Bisognin,Dilson Antônio; Cogo,Clarissa Melo; Bandinelli,Maurício Guerra.
The effect of the nutrient solution concentration on potato plant growth and minituber yield were determined in a sand closed hydroponic system. Minitubers and micropropagated plantlets of the cv. 'Macaca' were used. Treatments were five nutrient solution concentrations at electrical conductivities (EC) of 1.0 (T1), 2.2 (T2), 3.4 (T3), 4.7 (T4) and 5.8dS m-1 (T5). The split plot randomised experimental design was used with three replications. Plants from minitubers produced higher fresh and mean weight of minitubers, shoot dry mass and leaf area index than the micropropagated ones. However, higher dry mass of minitubers was found with micropropagated plantlets compared to minitubers. The concentration of the nutrient solution did not affect minituber...
