Acoustique sous-marine. Présentation et applications ArchiMer
Lurton, Xavier.
Sound waves are the only practical means of remote investigation and transmission in seawater. All along the XXth century, underwater acoustics became one of the major technologies used for exploration and exploitation of the oceans for scientific, industrial, or military purposes. It is nowadays able to play, inside the oceans, the roles devoted to radio and radar in atmosphere and space, and is widely employed in the fields of navigation, fisheries, defence, oceanography and ocean engineering. This book presents, in a clear and concise way, the basic physical phenomena governing underwater acoustical waves, the general features of sonar systems, and an overview of their applications.

Genetics evaluation of minicuttings rooting of Eucalyptus cloeziana provenance PFB - Pesquisa Florestal Brasileira
Oliveira, Leandro Silva; Dias, Poliana Coqueiro; Almeida, Marcílio de.
Cloning of superior genotypes is presented as an alternative to increase forest productivity, because it allows capturing the genetic gains (additives and non-additives) from forest breeding. Early selection based on characteristics related to adventitious rooting may be important for breeding programs for recalcitrant species, like Eucalyptus cloeziana F. Muell. The objective of this work was to perform the genetic evaluation of E. cloeziana individuals based on adventitious rooting. The genetic control of adventitious rooting of 52 E. cloeziana trees was analyzed by variance components estimation and predicts breeding values. We used REML/BLUP procedure (estimation of variance components - Reml and prediction of breeding values - Blub). The variables...

Nutrition and adventitious rooting in woody plants PFB - Pesquisa Florestal Brasileira
Pereira, Fernanda Bortolanza; Bandeira Peres, Fabiana Schmidt.
Vegetative propagation success of commercial genotypes via cutting techniques is related to several factors, including nutritional status of mother trees and of propagation material. The nutritional status determines the carbohydrate quantities, auxins and other compounds of plant essential metabolism for root initiation and development. Each nutrient has specific functions in plant, acting on plant structure or on plant physiology. Although the importance of mineral nutrition for success of woody plants vegetative propagation and its relation with adventitious rooting is recognized, the role of some mineral nutrients is still unknown. Due to biochemical and physiological complexity of adventitious rooting process, there are few researches to determine de...

Development and fruit yield of strawberry plants as affected by crown diameter and plantlet growing period PAB
Cocco,Carine; Andriolo,Jerônimo Luiz; Erpen,Lígia; Cardoso,Francieli Lima; Casagrande,Gustavo Spreckelsen.
The objective of this work was to evaluate the influence of crown diameter and growing period of runner tips in 128 cell-trays on growth and yield of strawberry in the field. Treatments consisted of three classes of runner tip crown diameters, between 2.0 to 3.9 mm; 4.0 to 5.5 mm and 5.6 to 7.0 mm, respectively, and four growing periods in trays, 24; 39; 54 and 69 days, respectively. Higher shoot dry mass of transplants at planting and earlier yield of plants in the field were obtained in transplants grown for 69 days in trays. Larger runner tips lead to more vigorous transplants at planting and plants with higher vegetative growth in the field, with minor impact on yield. Increasing the growing time of runner tips in trays improved early fruit yield and...

Germinação de sementes de Matelea maritima (Jack.) Woods (Asclepiadaceae) Rev. Bras. Bot.
CUZZUOL,GERALDO ROGÉRIO FAUSTINI; LUCAS,NEIDE M. C..
Sementes de M. maritima germinam na temperatura ótima de 25°C com valores máximos na luz, sendo o processo otimizado em temperatura alternada de 25/30°C. Escarificação mecânica promove a germinação.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the tolerance of guava rootstocks under salt stress in the initial development stage. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse in a randomized block design in a 5 x 3 factorial, consisting of five levels of irrigation water salinity (0.6, 1.2, 1.8, 2.4 and 3.0 dS m-1) and three guava rootstocks (‘Crioula’, ‘Paluma’ and ‘Ogawa’), with four replicates and four plants per replicate. Emergence, growth and phytomass accumulation were evaluated 30 days after sowing. Increased salinity restricts guava emergence, growth and phytomass accumulation, and the most drastic effects occur at levels higher than 1.8 dS m-1. The cultivar ‘Crioula’ is more tolerant to salinity in relation to ‘Paluma’ and ‘Ogawa’, and can be indicated...

Tosta,Mauro da S.; Almeida,João P. N. de; Góes,Glêidson B. de; Freire,Priscilla de A.; Mendonça,Vander.
ABSTRACT ‘Pitombeira’ does not have organized cultivation, thus requiring information related to the production of seedlings, particularly in relation to chemical fertilizer. In this context, an experiment was conducted in order to define the best dose of nitrogen (N), using urea as N source, to be applied in ‘pitombeira’ seedlings. The experimental design was complete randomized blocks with four replicates and ten plants per plot, testing five N doses (0, 400, 800, 1.600 and 3.200 mg dm-3). Data were submitted to analysis of variance and regression. The non-destructive measurements (number of leaves, stem diameter, shoot length and the ratio between shoot length and stem diameter) were evaluated at 30, 60, 90 and 120 days after transplanting (DAT). In...

Management of slips and its effect on growth and production of 'Pérola' pineapple plants Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Reinhardt,Domingo Haroldo; Souza,Ana Patrícia Mascarenhas; Caldas,Ranulfo Correa; Alcântara,José dos Prazeres; Almeida,Alberto Alves de.
The lack of good quality planting material has limited the expansion and contributed to yield reduction of the Brazilian pineapple culture. Alternatives of 'Pérola' pineapple slips management were studied aiming at obtaining superior planting material within a shorter time period and making good use of healthy slips of low vigor, that are commonly discarded by growers. Two experiments were carried out at the Experimental Field of Embrapa Cassava & Fruits, Cruz das Almas, Bahia, Brazil, and another one in a commercial plantation in the region of Itaberaba, BA, using blocks or entirely randomized designs with at least four replications. In the first one, the development of slips of different initial sizes (6 to 20 cm long), when grown on mother...
