In Adler’s theory the “style of life” refers to how we live, sort out difficulties, and manage our own personal relationships. He strongly believed that each one of us is a distinctive, unique individual with our own characteristic way of life. Since the term was coined in the early 20th century it is no wonder that the meaning of “lifestyle” has gone through enormous changes. These days it is more often used to express “a way of life or style of living that reflects the attitudes and values of a person or group”. Since globalisation is increasingly turning the world into a “global village” no wonder that lifestyle is changing faster than ever before. As a result “for tourism, this influences the tourist’s perception of his/her personal needs and behaviour... |

The secondary research on rural sub-regional tourism is investigating the determining factors and the relationships between them. The analysis concentrates on the tourism potential of rural sub-regions and the performance of tourism. We used the method of discriminant analysis for classifying observations into two or more groups based on the specified predictors. Output includes the classification matrix, the squared distance between group centers, the linear discriminant function, means standard deviations, covariance matrices, and a summary of how each observation was classified. After that, we have classified rural sub-regions according to their strategies of tourism development. The strategy of development for sub-regions belonging to the same group... |

Swinburne University (Langworthy, Howard, Fiona & Mawson, 2006), agri-tourism is a growing phenomenon in Australia, often most strongly associated with wine regions. Recommendations to improve include creation of tourism regions & cooperatives, cooperation between sectors (CVBs, restaurants), infrastructure development and model development to measurable factors. South African wineries Bruwer, 2003 identified factors that were helpful in developing a wine tourism market of South African wineries. Regarding South Africa wine tourism, areas of winery business that promote tourism include both service provision and destination marketing, development of wine routes forms an integral part of the wine tourism industry, estates sell more wine through... |

The goal of this study, based on data collected through community surveys and visitors’ surveys, is to determine and analyze factors impacting returns from rural tourism. Our first model shows that age of event, median family income, and hired labor have a significant impact on the revenues collected from tourism events. Furthermore, it shows brochures and flyers to be the most effective form of advertisement. The second multivariate regression model proves that traveling greater distances, staying overnight at a hotel, and plans for visiting surrounding areas contribute positively and significantly to higher individual expenditures by tourists. |

Polish rural areas, compared to other EU-25 member states, still show a high agricultural employment due to a lack of job opportunities in other rural economic sectors. In particular, in South-eastern Poland the shut down of heavy industry companies in the early 1990s left many rural inhabitants only with small incomes from their peasant farms or pensions. In the commune Ba³tów (South-eastern Poland) in order to counteract these developments, local development associations and a regional partnership undertook initiatives to stimulate the regional economy by creating a tourism infrastructure. This paper presents a case study, conducted in Ba³tów, which analyses local problems, development chances, and experience with local endogenous initiatives. The main... |

Hungary is the pioneer of the European Equestrian Tourism. Several thousands foreign tourists visited specific equestrian programmes already in the 1960’s and 1970’s. At the same times some hundred thousands of holiday tourists visited equestrian shows and programs organised in different areas of our country. From the beginning of the 1990’s equestrian enterprises (pensions, stables, specialized equestrian services) have been established. The equestrian tourism enterprises are well represented all over the country. They are well organised, the Hungarian Equestrian Tourism Association integrates 80% of equestrian tourism enterprises. Uniquely in Europe, the voluntary professional qualification, called “the horseshoe qualification system” started in 1998.... |

During their holidays, tourists produce direct and indirect effects on local residents, which can either be positive or negative. In this paper we investigate how residents of Rimini, a popular Italian seaside resort hosting more than ten million national and foreign overnight stays every year, internalise such effects. We use a stated preference approach and, in particular, a discrete choice modelling technique; within this framework, we are able to test some conjectures about residents welfare, by measuring their willingness to pay for alternative scenarios regarding the use of the territory. Tourist policies and public investments in the destination affect residents welfare, and our results might suggest areas of potential synergies and trade-off,... |

The paper presents the results of the application of an Input-Output-based approach for the estimation of direct, indirect and induced effects of tourist spending on local economies, in a static partial equilibrium setting. The methodology has been successfully applied in three case studies – Bergen (Norway), Elche (Spain), Syracuse (Italy) –, in the framework of the 6th FP project PICTURE (Pro-active management of the Impact of Cultural Tourism upon Urban Resources and Economies), in order to quantify the monetary impact of cultural tourism upon urban economies. The analysis was carried out in two major steps: firstly, interviews to tourists in each case study city, in order to estimate the scale and variability of the spending patterns of different... |
