| Dem Anspruch gerecht zu werden, „ganzheitlich“ forschen zu wollen/zu sollen, ist mitunter schwierig. Dabei muss es nicht immer um ein „Ganz-Lassen“ gehen. Die Aufgabe besteht vielleicht eher in einem „Ganz-Denken“. Das Herstellen von Sinnbezügen zwischen den (beispielsweise durch Analytik sichtbar gewordenen) Teilen lässt uns das „Ganze“ oft erst erkennen und somit auch darstellen und vermitteln. Dies ist ein kreativer Akt des individuellen Denkens, aber gerade durch diesen könnte sich die Forschung für den Öko-Landbau auszeichnen und ein wirkliches Gegengewicht zum wissenschaftlichen Reduktionismus schaffen. |

| In wild salmonid fish, specific individual behavioral traits have been correlated with the timing of fry emergence from their gravel spawning nests; Early emerging fish display more aggressive behavior and have a higher probability of becoming socially dominant, compared to fish that emerge at a later stage. Apart from aggression and dominance, other behavioral and metabolic traits, such as boldness, metabolic rate, or growth, have also been linked to emergence time. Altogether, the traits of early- and late-emerging fish resemble those of the proactive and reactive stress-coping style, respectively. | The quality of dried meat products and the drying kinetics significantly depends on the status of the raw material going into the drying process. The aim of this study was the determination of the impact of meat status (fresh, mature, frozen-thawed) on the drying kinetics and the resulting quality in terms of colour changes and spectrally deductible information. Drying tests were conducted using meat from organically raised bulls. In fresh meat, freezing leads to a decrease of the drying rate, whilst for matured meat the opposite is true. Aging and freezing have little effect on the end product quality in terms of final product colour. | Fazit Bezogen auf die untersuchte Stichprobe der eingestreuten Laufställe wiesen die ökologischen Betriebe eine durchschnittlich höhere Tiergerechtheit auf. Dies galt jedoch nicht für alle Ein-zelbetriebe. Insgesamt gibt es aber noch viele Biobetriebe, bei denen Verbesserungen der Tiergerechtheit nötig und möglich sind (z.B. | A survey is presented on the impact of different intensities of grassland management related to nutrient balances and their assessment. With special reference to data from Austria and Germany, it is postulated that on-farm nutrient balance assessment is a valuable tool for identifying deficits in efficiency of nutrient use in the soil-plant-animal system.
