Glabrous; brick red, with the labrum, apical joint of the palpi, apex of the mandibles, eyes, antennae, apex of the thoracical spines, legs (except the coxae and the intermediate and posterior trochanters), scutellum and extreme apical margin of the ventral segments, black, and the apical fourth of the elytra dark steel blue with a faint violet hue; the under surface of the base of the third and following joints of the antennae with a spot of whitish pubescence. |

| This new species belongs to Pascoe’s § 1 «Elytra scarcely (or not at all) crested, the apex rounded,” ¹) and is closely allied to P. subtincta Pasc. (l. c. p. 170) from Java and P. Bowringii Pasc. | Ueber die Geologie von Neu-Guinea besitzen wir nur sehr vereinzelte, den meisten Geologen wohl kaum bekannte Aufzeichnungen, deren früheste sich auf Sammlungen von Macklot ¹) stützen. Salomon Müller benutzte die Letzteren und die zugehörigen Cataloge, in denen Altersbestimmungen von Gesteinen enthalten sind, welche in Ueberlegung mit v. Leonhard festgestellt waren, bei seiner Beschreibung von Neu-Guinea ²). Er giebt auf Grund dessen an, dass an der nordwestlichen Küste der Insel eine Juraformation entwickelt sei und ausserdem vielleicht noch Tegel und Grauwacke.
