PHYSICAL AND MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF THE BAMBUSA VULGARIS AS CONSTRUCTION MATERIAL REA
Gomes Neto,José A.; Barbosa,Normando P.; Beraldo,Antônio L.; Melo,Aluísio B. de.
ABSTRACT The fabrication of traditional construction materials consumes a large amount of energy, emits pollutants, and utilizes nonrenewable raw materials. Therefore, it is important to reduce the environmental impact of construction through the use of eco-friendly materials, such as bamboo. This work presents the characterization of Bambusa vulgaris, which is widely available in Brazil. The aim is to employ this raw material as a construction material. The geometric and physical properties were obtained. The results showed that, when bamboo is soaked in water, dimensional variations up to 7% were observed along the radial direction. The mechanical properties depend on the moisture content. The compressive strength can exceed 60 MPa with approximately 7%...

Lins,Ana C. de S. S.; Lourençoni,Dian; Yanagi Júnior,Tadayuki; Miranda,Isadora B.; Santos,Italo E. dos A..
ABSTRACT Considering the challenges faced by poultry farming, this study aimed to develop a neuro-fuzzy model to predict eyeball and crest temperatures of egg-laying hens based on environmental conditions (dry bulb temperature and relative humidity). To develop the models and simulations, Matlab’s Fuzzy Toolbox® (Anfisedit) was used. Different configurations were used for each of the several neuro-fuzzy models developed. Eyeball temperature (ET) and chicken crest temperature (CCT) were simulated from the developed neuro-fuzzy models, and the obtained results were validated with the variables collected experimentally with the aid of recorder sensors and an infrared thermographic camera. The proposed neuro-fuzzy models allow the accurate estimation of ET and...

SEWAGE PERFORMANCE OF A NEW TYPE OF FLAP FILTER REA
Liu,Zhenji; Shi,Kai; Li,Man; Xie,Yan.
ABSTRACT The drainage performance of a mesh filter determines the water consumption degree of the filter and the efficiency of the next work cycle. Through analysis, we found that the influent flow rate and the sediment content of the influent were important influencing factors. This experiment focused on the drainage time, pressure difference, and cleanliness to investigate the drainage performance of a new type of flap filter. The results showed that with increasing inlet flow rates, the time to discharge the effluent decreased, and the time required for the difference between the primary and secondary sewage pressures to reach a constant level was shorter. The cleanliness and drainage effects were improved. To verify this, we established mathematical...

Zhang,Ping; Zhang,Wei; Sun,Haitian; Fu,Haiba; Liu,Jiansheng.
ABSTRACT Protecting against the main sugarcane diseases and insect pests requires good control at the base of the plant; therefore, higher droplet penetration is required during plant protection. The objectives of this research were to explore the movement mechanism of droplets in a sugarcane protection operation using a single-rotor unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and establish the connection between the UAV downwash flow field and droplet penetration. By considering the downwash flow field of a single-rotor UAV in layers, a theoretical model of the vertical velocities of droplets was established, and verification experiments were carried out in a sugarcane field. The results showed that the velocity of the UAV downwash flow was the main factor affecting...

COMPARING A SINGLE-SENSOR CAMERA WITH A MULTISENSOR CAMERA FOR MONITORING COFFEE CROP USING UNMANNED AERIAL VEHICLES REA
Gomes,Amanda P. A.; Queiroz,Daniel M. de; Valente,Domingos S. M.; Pinto,Francisco de A. de C.; Rosas,Jorge T. F..
ABSTRACT There exist two options for digital cameras that can capture the near-infrared (NIR) band. Conventional red–green–blue (RGB, visible bands) cameras with a single sensor provide NIR band visibility based on the removal of the internal NIR-blocking filter. Alternatively, multisensor cameras exist that have a specific sensor for each band. The modified RGB cameras are of a lower price. In this context, the objective of this study was to compare the performance of a modified RGB camera with that of a multisensor camera for obtaining the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) in an area with coffee cultivations. A multispectral camera with five sensors and another camera with only one sensor were used. The NDVI of the coffee field was also...

HYPERSPECTRAL SPECTROSCOPY TO DETECT DIFFERENT RESPONSES OF TWO SOYBEAN (GLYCINE MAX) CULTIVARS TO CHARCOAL ROT (MACROPHOMINA PHASEOLINA) TOXIN REA
Al-Ahmadi,Ameer; Subedi,Arjun; Choudhary,Ruplal; Fakhoury,Ahmad; Watson,Dennis.
ABSTRACT Previous studies have confirmed the potential of hyperspectral spectroscopy (HS) to detect charcoal rot toxin effect on soybean (Glycine max). However, there is no evidence that it can differentiate among difference responses to that effect. This research tested the potential of HS (900–2400 nm) to differentiate different responses to charcoal rot effect caused by the fungal pathogen Macrophomina phaseolina. Known susceptible ‘Pharaoh’ and resistant ‘Spencer’ cultivars of soybean seedlings at the V1 stage were tested, and HS reflectance was measured in each treatment at 0 h (just before toxin treatment), 24 h, and 36 h after toxin treatment. For both cultivars, reflectance generally decreased up to 10% over time for controls and increased for...

DAILY RAINFALL DISAGGREGATION COEFFICIENTS FOR THE DOCE RIVER BASIN, BRAZIL: REGIONAL APPLICABILITY AND THE RETURN PERIOD INFLUENCE REA
Passos,Jéssica B. de M. C.; Silva,Demetrius D. da; Lima,Rafael P. C..
ABSTRACT Alternative methods to the intensity-duration-frequency equations have been used for intense rainfall study in places with no pluviographic data. A pioneering study, by CETESB (1986), established rainfall disaggregation coefficients for Brazil; however, the use of these coefficients take into account neither the rainfall characteristics of the interest locality nor the return period influence in obtaining the precipitation intensities. This study aimed to determine rainfall disaggregation coefficients for Doce river basin; to verify the validity of the regional coefficients use for the entire basin; and to evaluate the return period influence on these coefficients. Data from 19 gauges located in the basin, with rainfall associated with durations...

CROP MODELING WITH LESS DATA: THE FAO MODEL FOR SOYBEAN YIELD ESTIMATION REA
Richetti,Jonathan; Johann,Jerry Adriani; Uribe-Opazo,Miguel Angel.
ABSTRACT Crop growth simulation models such as WOFOST and DSSAT are useful, but require several inputs that sometimes are not available, especially in developing areas. In addition, measured data is usually time and labor-intensive. In search of faster and easier methods for soybean estimates, this study presents a lower input requiring methodology for yield estimation. This study combines the FAO-33 yield model with the agro-ecological zone approach for soybean yield estimations using mostly indirect data. Sowing and harvest dates and yield were collected from 74 soybean commercial farms. Agrometeorological data from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) were used. Fifty farms (66%) were used to calibrate the model and 24 farm...

TECHNICAL AND ECONOMIC FEASIBILITY OF USING A VARIABLE-FREQUENCY DRIVE IN MICRO-IRRIGATION SYSTEMS REA
Pinto,Marinaldo F.; Pereira,Diego J. de S.; Carvalho,Daniel F. de; Alves,Dinara G.; Salvador,Conan A..
ABSTRACT Irrigation is essential for the development of crops in regions with scarcity or irregular rainfall distribution, enabling high productivity. However, the use of water resources and electrical energy leads to a concern with irrigation efficiency. Pressure demand varies during the operations of irrigation systems and the appropriate pressure can be regulated by variable-frequency drives for the power supply of the motor-pump set. This study aimed to analyze the technical and economic feasibility of using a variable-frequency drive to adjust the pressure in subunits of micro-irrigation systems. Laboratory tests were carried out to determine the electrical power consumed in each irrigated subunit for different slopes and the application or not of the...
