Brandão,Fernanda Scharnberg; Barcellos,Júlio Otávio Jardim; Waquil,Paulo Dabdab; Oliveira,Tamara Esteves de; Gianezini,Miguelangelo; Dias,Eduardo Antunes.
The complexity of the consumers' behavior has taken the food industry to a new level of dynamism. Therefore, understanding the factors that influence this behavior is decisive for the differentiation of products to niche markets and even to adjust the supply according to consumers' expectancy. This article proposes a conceptual model to identify the factors influencing beef consumption in Brazil. The methodological approach was characterized by a systematic review through a synthesis of research related directly to this topic. Therefore, 76 papers published during the 2000-2014 period, including official documents (statistics), full research papers, abstracts, proceedings, and reports, were selected. Four main factors were related to influences in consumer...

Attractants for automated emission measurement (Greenfeed®) in pasture-based systems R. Bras. Zootec.
Mombach,Mircéia Angele; Carvalho,Perivaldo de; Cabral,Luciano da Silva; Rodrigues,Renato de Aragão Ribeiro; Torres,Renato Cristiano; Pereira,Dalton Henrique; Pedreira,Bruno Carneiro e.
ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the frequency and intensity of GreenFeed (GF) use by Nellore steers using different attractants in pastures of integrated systems. The attractant protein supplement and Tifton bermudagrass pelleted hay flavored with vanilla were evaluated over a period of 15 days. The pelleted hay stimulated the animals to stay longer in the equipment (24.23 s), with 8% more visits in intervals longer than 30 s in contrast to protein supplement. This indicates that pelleted hay flavored with vanilla is a potential attractant to encourage Nellore steers to visit GF in grazing systems.

A meta-analysis of dry matter intake in Nellore and Zebu-crosses cattle R. Bras. Zootec.
Azevêdo,José Augusto Gomes; Valadares Filho,Sebastião de Campos; Pina,Douglas dos Santos; Chizzotti,Mario Luiz; Valadares,Rilene Ferreira Diniz.
The study was carried out to develop and to evaluate new equations to predict dry matter intake (DMI) of Nellore and Zebu-crosses cattle using meta-analysis procedure. The data used to estimate the parameters were collected from independent performance experiments using growing and fattening Nellore and Zebu-crosses cattle, and they were compiled from 561 experimental units. Before proposing an equation to predict DMI, it was observed that the genetic group was a source of statisticaly significant variation. Therefore, equations to predict dry matter intake in the Zebu-Crosses and Nellore cattle were independently developed. The regression equations for Zebu-crosses cattle were: DMI = -2.6098 + 0.08844BW0.75 + 4.4672ADG - 1.3579ADG2 and DMI = -1.0094 +...

Nonlinear models for fitting growth curves of Nellore cows reared in the Amazon Biome R. Bras. Zootec.
Marinho,Kedma Nayra da Silva; Freitas,Alfredo Ribeiro de; Falcão,Alencariano José da Silva; Dias,Francisca Elda Ferreira.
Growth curves of Nellore cows were estimated by comparing six nonlinear models: Brody, Logistic, two alternatives by Gompertz, Richards and Von Bertalanffy. The models were fitted to weight-age data, from birth to 750 days of age of 29,221 cows, born between 1976 and 2006 in the Brazilian states of Acre, Amapá, Amazonas, Pará, Rondônia, Roraima and Tocantins. The models were fitted by the Gauss-Newton method. The goodness of fit of the models was evaluated by using mean square error, adjusted coefficient of determination, prediction error and mean absolute error. Biological interpretation of parameters was accomplished by plotting estimated weights versus the observed weight means, instantaneous growth rate, absolute maturity rate, relative instantaneous...

Inherent auction factors that affect the selling price of calves R. Bras. Zootec.
Danielce,Maickel Martins; Paris,Wagner; Vismara,Edgar de Souza; Severo,Marcelo Machado; Menezes,Luís Fernando Glasenapp de.
ABSTRACT This study was performed to determine and quantify the inherent auction factors that affect the selling price of beef calves (weanlings - from six to nine months old). Data on the selling price, location and month of the auction, genetic group, lot size live weight, and sex of animals were collected in 148 auctions from January 2004 to December 2014. A total of 4,312 lots corresponding to 48,588 calves were classified into seven genetic groups according to their phenotypic characteristics. The values were deflated using the General Price index (IGP-DI) inflation index and met the parametric assumptions. The selling price was standardized by the yearly median, assuming that its value corresponds to 100%, and the other values varied in their...

Milk composition and its relationship with weaning weight in Charolais catte R. Bras. Zootec.
Contreras,Víctor Inocencio Pacheco; Bracamonte,Gaspar Manuel Parra; Bustamante,Luis Arístides López; Medina,Víctor Ricardo Moreno; Rincón,Ana María Sifuentes.
To determine the effects of a number of non-genetic factors on milk components and estimate their indirect relationships with weaning weight (WW205), the percentages of protein, fat, lactose and solids non-fat in Charolais cows from Mexico were estimated. Lactation period (LP) and calving season (CS) had significant effects on protein and fat, whereas lactose and solids non-fat were only affected by the LP. Sire line and age of the dam had significant effects on calf birth weight, while CS affected WW205. Residual correlations between milk components and WW205 suggest a low but significant correlation with lactose. These results demonstrate the importance of several non-genetic factors on the composition of milk from Charolais cows managed under extensive...

Breeding objectives and economic values for traits of low input family-based beef cattle production system in the State of Rio Grande do Sul R. Bras. Zootec.
Laske,Carlos Henrique; Teixeira,Bruno Borges Machado; Dionello,Nelson José Laurino; Cardoso,Fernando Flores.
The objectives of this study were to define breeding objectives and derive economic weights for production traits in family-based beef cattle systems, assess the sensitivity of these weights to changes in market and husbandry indicators and estimate the expected genetic changes in the selection criteria proposed. Based on data from the production systems, farms revenues and expenses, obtained from interviews and meetings with producers, a bioeconomic model was derived, relating biological traits of animals with the financial result of the production system based on calf-crop, selling male calves and culling cows for finishing. Traits considered in the model as breeding goals were weaning rate, weaning weight and cow weight. The economic weights, obtained...
