The 2006 – 2007 agricultural campaign was characterized by a good rainfall. As a result, cereal production has increased according to the survey conducted by CPS/DNSI.. The prices of cereals reflect this increase in production. To keep producers from selling their products at lower prices, it is recommended to constitute the national food security stock and cereal banks at commune level in December 2006, lift measures forbidding the exports of cereals, and put in place overdraft facilities for producers and traders for cereals storage. |

This publication presents the results of the latest (2002) inventory of U.S. major land uses, drawing on data from the Census, public land management and conservation agencies, and other sources. The data are synthesized by State to calculate the use of several broad classes and subclasses of agricultural and nonagricultural land over time. The United States has a total land area of nearly 2.3 billion acres. Major uses in 2002 were forest-use land, 651 million acres (28.8 percent); grassland pasture and range land, 587 million acres (25.9 percent); cropland, 442 million acres (19.5 percent); special uses (primarily parks and wildlife areas), 297 million acres (13.1 percent); miscellaneous other uses, 228 million acres (10.1 percent); and urban land, 60... |

Bovine TB (bTB) presents a significant challenge to beef and dairy farmers. In 2009 7,449 herds were subject to movement restrictions in Great Britain because of bTB. Of these, 52% were in South West England and 20% were in Devon alone. With over 25% of holdings with cattle in the South West likely to suffer a bTB breakdown within the course of a year, understanding the cost implications on farm businesses is vital in order to demonstrate the impact that this disease is having on agricultural communities and the agricultural economy. The research undertaken for this report has revealed considerable variation across a range of different types of costs associated with bTB. Consequently average figures, either for costs or calculating compensation, obscure... |

North Dakota's recreational fishing industry is an important part of the state's economic base. Resident and nonresident anglers spent nearly $260 million dollars on fishing-related activities in the state in 1990 (Baltezore and Leitch 1992). Management of a resource that generates this amount of economic activity requires accurate and periodic information. Management uses information in at least two ways. Information is initially used to make a decision. Once a decision is made, additional information is collected to assess the results or outcomes of that decision. In effect, information is used to make a decision and monitor changes resulting from that decision (Kerestes and Leitch 1983). Periodic information is needed to monitor the outcomes of... |
