Sugarcane variety: U-Thong 84-10 (clone 02-2-194) is the hybrid of clone 94-2-128 (84-2-646 x U-Thong 1) and clone 97-2-535 (Chainat 1 x ROC 1). The hybridization was conducted in 2002, followed with 1stand 2nd selection in 2003-2004 and elite lines evaluation in 2005-2010. U-Thong 84-10 gave the yield 19.77 ton/rai in irrigated area, 41% higher than check variety (K84-200). Moreover, it gave the sugar yield 2.85 ton CCS/rai, 39% higher than K84-200. U-Thong 84-10 was released on 4th December 2010. It is recommended to plant in irrigated area or water supplemented area. At present, it is planted increasingly in the central and western area in Kampangphet, Suphan Buri, Kanchanaburi and etc.

Development of virus resistant transgenic papayas expressing the coat protein gene from a Brazilian isolate of Papaya ringspot virus Trop. Plant Pathol.

Translatable and nontranslatable versions of the coat protein (cp) gene of a Papaya ringspot virus (PRSV) isolate collected in the state of Bahia, Brazil, were engineered for expression in Sunrise and Sunset Solo varieties of papaya (Carica papaya). The biolistic system was used to transform secondary somatic embryo cultures derived from immature zygotic embryos. Fifty-four transgenic lines, 26 translatable and 28 nontranslatable gene versions, were regenerated, with a transformation efficiency of 2.7%. Inoculation of cloned R0 plants with PRSV BR, PRSV HA or PRSV TH, Brazilian, Hawaiian and Thai isolates, respectively, revealed lines with mono-, double-, and triple-resistance. In Sula leucogaster (Boddaert, 1783) it happens a brood reduction from two to one egg. The eggs hatch asynchronously and it is rare for the second chick to survive for long. A quantify parental investment is proposed and the differences between males and females of Sula leucogaster is verified for to help to understand the brood reduction. The studies were conducted on Ilhas dos Currais, Paraná, Brazil, where a total of 140 nests were studied. Males and females shared the breeding care period. However, females invested about 8% more on incubation than males (c² = 7,37; c² critic = 3,842). Time of absence in the nest for females was larger than for males (c² = 13,9; c² critic = 3,842). ABSTRACT Tambaqui, Colossoma macropomum, is one of the most produced species in Brazilian fish farming, which has boosted the development of new technologies to increase its productivity. The aim of this study was to evaluate production performance in two second-generation tambaqui stocks selectively bred for weight gain in a semi-intensive rearing system and assess its influence on total production cost. We analyzed 300 fish (initial mean weight and standard length of 160 g and 17 cm, respectively) of two families (A and B, 150 fish each). ABSTRACT Repeatability allows an estimation of the number of evaluations needed to optimize the selection of superior genotypes, with consequent effects on the research costs in terms of financial and human resources. The objective of this study was to estimate the coefficient of repeatability of biometric and yield traits, related to fruits and seeds of sacha inchi (Plukenetia volubilis), and to define the number of evaluations required for an efficient selection and evaluation of genotypes of the species.
