同一のロース芯断面について,異なる撮影装置を利用した際の,算出さ れる脂肪面積比の差異を検討した.22頭の黒毛和種去勢牛のロース芯断面を3種類の デジタルビデオカメラで,ほぼ同時に撮影し,得られた画像からの脂肪面積比を比 較した.また,平成11年4月から平成12年3月までに撮影された2,216頭の黒毛和種肥 育牛のロース芯断面について,脂肪面積比と脂肪交雑ナンバー(Beef marbling Standard, BMS)との関連性に対する季節の影響を調査した.3種類のビデオカメラのうち1種類 からの脂肪面積比は,他のそれと比較し有意に高い値が算出された.しかしながら ,回帰式を用いることで,脂肪面積比に対する撮影装置の影響を除去することが可 能であった.脂肪面積比のBMSに対する季節1(4-6月),2(7-9月),3(10-12 月)および4(2-3月)の偏回帰係数は,それぞれ0.245,0.244,0.243および0.238 とほぼ同様の値が推定された.同様に,季節1,2,3および4の切片は,それぞれ-2. 59,-2.27,-2.09および-2.23であった. This study aimed to evaluate the trypanocidal activity of mycophenolic acid (MPA) and its derivatives for Trypanosoma congolense. The proliferation of T. congolense was completely inhibited by adding <1 mu M MPA and its derivatives. In addition, the IMP dehydrogenase in T. congolense was molecularly characterized as the target of these compounds. The results suggest that MPA and its derivatives have the potential to be new candidates as novel trypanocidal drugs. |

Cysteine-based peroxidases, known as peroxiredoxins (Prx) or thioredoxin peroxidases (TPx), are important antioxidant enzymes that prevent oxidative damage caused by reactive oxygen species (ROS). In this study, we identified a novel mitochondrial 2-Cys Prx, BbTPx-2, from a bovine Babesia parasite, B. bovis. BbTPx-2 complementary DNA (cDNA) encodes a polypeptide of 254 amino acid residues. This protein has a mitochondrial targeting peptide at the N-terminus and two conserved cysteine residues of the typical 2-Cys Prx. By using a thiol mixed-function oxidation assay, the antioxidant activity of recombinant BbTPx-2 was revealed, and its antioxidant activity was comparable to that of a cytosolic 2-Cys Prx from B. bovis, BbTPx-1. The fluctuations in the plasma levels of several bone markers were investigated in newborn calves. Experiment 1 monitored the postnatal changes in the plasma levels of tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase isoform 5b (TRAP5b), total alkaline phosphatase (t-ALP) and bone-specific alkaline phosphatase (BAP) in four calves. These markers increased significantly from 9−20 hr after the first colostrum-suckling compared with the values immediately after birth.
