The European cherry fruit fly, Rhagoletis cerasi (L.) (Diptera: Tephritidae), is a highly destructive pest. Methods to control it are limited and alternatives are needed.Observations of cherry fruit flies suggest that females exert much effort to penetrate cherries at color change stage (from green to yellow) for oviposition. Therefore, the question arose as to whether a physical barrier on the fruit surface could reduce oviposition. The effects of different commercial horticultural oil products on R. cerasi oviposition were evaluated in a series of laboratory, semi-field and field experiments. In the laboratory experiments, the rate of successful oviposition on fruits treated with 0.25% v/v of the rapeseed oil product Telmion was significantly reduced by... |

Abstract: The impact of treatments with the pyrethrin insecticide Pyrethrum FS and the repellent kaolin product Surround WP to control the autumn forms of Dysaphis plantaginea Pass. (Homoptera: Aphididae), a major pest insect on apple, was assessed in one-year field experiments in Switzerland. Single and multiple applications of pyrethrin and kaolin were tested at different dates after apple harvesting in autumn 2002 when sexuales of the rosy apple aphid were present. Repeated applications of Surround WP in autumn significantly reduced the number of females in autumn and, consequently, the number of hatched fundatrices in spring. Single kaolin treatments were less effective. Unexpectedly, neither single nor multiple applications of the contact insecticide... |

Optimal fertilisation ensures that the current rapeseed varieties and reach their full yield potential. Practical recommendation • In conventional cultivation, the nitrogen uptake of winter oilseed rape amounts to 140 kg N per ha for a yield expectation of 35 dt per ha. In organic agriculture, about 100 kg suffice for a yield expectation of 20-25 dt. • The ideal time for cultivating oilseed rape is after grass-clover or legumes. After grains, apply about 30 tonnes per ha of manure or manure compost before cultivating rapeseed. • In dry conditions in spring, an early single application of nitrogen is preferable to two smaller applications. In the case of slurry with a low N content, two applications are often required because maximum of 40 m3 of slurry... |

Growers of organic Brassica vegetables and oilseed rape face the same potentially severe plant protection problems as their colleagues in conventional or integrated pest management systems.Management strategies in organic systems rely on preventive measures (crop rotation, crop isolation, soil management, host plant resistance, farm/field location; manipulate timing of planting or harvest; intercropping, mulching), use of functional agro-biodiversity (reduction of pest by enhancing natural enemies), release of biocontrol agents and a few approved pesticides of biological and mineral origin, as well as mating disruption or the use of anti-insect nets (Zehnder et al., 2007). The methods used in organic might also be applicable in IPM systems. However, several... |

Aufgrund fehlender... |
