Among the rich collections made in Indonesia by Dr A. Kostermans (Bogor, Java) during the last decennia, there is an interesting species of Convolvulaceae from Borneo. It appears to be closely related to Neuropeltis Wall, but differs by a number of important characters justifying its acceptance as the type of a new genus, Neuropeltopsis. Neuropeltopsis Ooststr., genus nov., a genere Neuropeltide differt inflorescentiis racemosis longioribus minus densis, bracteis magnis albis superne in parte inferiore florem unum gerentibus, marginibus glabris loborum corollae multo latioribus, filamentis paene totiis ad corollam adnatis, stylo uno longo in apice breviter bifurcato. |

The list of new localities of rare species and interesting records of more common species found in the Netherlands mainly during 1975, has been subdivided in three categories: A. Netherlands species; B. Adventitious species; C. Species escaped from cultivation. In comparison with former lists category A includes the species — also naturalised ones — belonging to the Netherlands Flora, as established by the Floristic Council in 1975 (MENNEMA, 1975) and inserted in the Standard List of the Netherlands Flora 1975 (ARNOLDS & VAN DER MEIJDEN, 1976). In list A comments have been added, where necessary; adventitious records of Netherlands species are indicated with adv., escapes from cultivations with verw. In list B and C the names of the species, new for... |

Dr. Jan Theodoor Henrard, former curator of the Gramineae at the Rijksherbarium, died at Leiden 28 August 1974, in his 93rd year. Among the staff-members of the Rijksherbarium there are only a few left who have known Dr. Henrard, as he retired in 1946 on reaching the age of 65. They will remember him as an enthusiastic taxonomist with a great love for the variation of living nature. He was always busy analyzing the often very slight differential characters of importance in the family to which he devoted a great part of his life, the Grasses. |

Dutch floras mention two adventitious species of Erigeron L. sect. Phalacroloma (Cass.) Cronquist, viz. E. annuus (L.) Pers. [= Stenactis annua (L.) N. ab E.] and E. strigosus Mühlenb. ex Willd. [= Stenactis strigosa (Mühlenb. ex Willd.) DC.; S. bellidiflora (Wallr.) A. Br. ex Koch]. From a study of the specimens in several Netherlands herbaria appeared that only E. strigosus Mühlenb. ex Willd. has been found here. Nearly all the material belongs to var. septentrionalis (Fern. & Wieg.) Fern.; only a few specimens represent var. beyrichii (Fisch. & Mey.) A. Gray. |

Two acquisitions to the Netherlands adventitious flora from the year 1963. 1. Kochia scoparia subsp. densiflora (Turcz. ex Moq.) Aellen, distinguished from the typical subspecies by the long hairs at the base of the flowers, was found near Amsterdam as a grain introduction. 2. Tetragonolobus maritimus (L.) Roth. This species was found on the grassy slope of the Kunderberg near Voerendaal (prov. Limburg). It is supposed to be adventitious there, what is also said of the specimens from the nearest locality in Germany, the Schneeberg near Vaals, W. of Aachen. Polygonum compactum Hook. f. and Dicentra eximia (Ker) Torr., escaped from cultivation. |

This charming and handy book printed on excellent paper, with its numerous clear pictures of well-known Malayan plants, reminds one in many ways of Merrill’s “Plant Life of the Pacific World” (MacMillan 1946, New York), which has perhaps served Prof. Holttum as an example. Its size being only slightly smaller than Merrill’s book and the area covered being very considerably smaller, its descriptions of plants are naturally more detailed; the more so as only a choice has been made, in which the special interests of the author — ferns, orchids, gingers — are evident though not predominant. The plants described are not regionally arranged. The 17 chapters are rather headed by names of life-forms, striking organs, and special habitats. As is pointed out in the... |

During the year 1936 the first of us made a trip to the island of Enggano (W. coast of Sumatra, Residency of Benkoelen) for the special purpose of collecting Cryptogams. During this trip also a number of Phanerogams could he gathered. The collections made are preserved at the Rijksherbarium at Leiden, duplicates are to be found in the Herbarium at Buitenzorg. The Phanerogams were preliminary identified by Dr. D. F. VAN SLOOTEN Leguminosae, Flacourtiaceae, Combretaceae, Gramineae) and by Dr. C. G. G. J. VAN STEENIS). Afterwards some additional determinations were made by several specialists (BREMEKAMP, HENRARD, JONKER, Miss KOSTER, LAM, J.J. SMITH, UITTIEN) and by the authors. It resulted that a few species proved to be hitherto undescribed. Two of them... |

Lactuca tatarica (L.) C. A. Mey., a blue-flowered Lactuca of the Asiatic and Southeast- European steppe, was found in 1961 as an alien at Rotterdam, where it was more or less naturalized, growing between the basalt-blocks of the embankment of a harbour. Since the early years of the 20th century it has established itself in several places on the coast of the Baltic, where it is becoming part of the natural vegetation. It was also found in a few localities on the coast of England, Scotland and Ireland. As appears now, Lactuca tatarica was already found in 1942 at Doesburg (Gelderland), but was then misidentified as Lactuca perennis. |

Additions to the adventitious flora of the Netherlands, mainly found in 1966. 1. Osmunda claytoniana L., a native of the eastern part of N. America, has established itself in the park ‘Het Loo’, near Apeldoorn (prov. Gelderland). 2. Polygonum cilinode Michx., also of N. American origin, was found in large quantities near Wageningen (prov. Gelderland). 3. Brassica juncea Czern. var. sabellica (Pleck) Kitamura, a form with laciniate, crispate leaves, occurred as a ruderal at Beverwijk (prov. N. Holland). 4. Heliophila longifolia DC., a native of South Africa, was found near an oil-factory at Zaandijk and on a railway-yard at Zaandam, both in the prov. of N. Holland. 5. The Central and E. European Sisymbrium strictissimum L. was found along a roadside near... |

Three species of Alternanthera, viz. A. sessilis (L.) DC., A. pungens H.B.K., and A. peploides (Humb. & Bonpl. ex R. & Sch.) Urb. have been found as aliens in the Netherlands. They may be distinguished as follows: 1. Tepals almost equal in form and size, without excurrent midrib, glabrous, white. .................... 1. A. sessilis 1’. Tepals distinctly unequal in form and size, at least partly with an excurrent midrib, more or less hairy, dirty white. 2. The two largest (abaxial) tepals ca. 4½-5½ mm long, with a spiny point which accounts for about 1/3 of their length. Filaments and pseudostaminodes shortly triangular ....................... 2. A. pungens 2’. The two largest (abaxial) tepals ca. 4 mm long, with short, less spiny point. Filaments... |
