The paper illustrates the role and activities of Technology Platform Organics (TP Organics) in addressing the requirement that research in organic food and farming systems generates output of relevance to wider end-users. It describes approaches to research and knowledge exchange and suggests that a more participatory approach can improve organic research outcomes. It describes different models of research and knowledge exchange and their pros and cons. The criteria for success of a participatory approach to research also need to be different. These are discussed. |

So far no official statistical data on the current status of organic viticulture in Europe exist. Even though most countries in the European Union, the EU accession countries and the EFTA countries collate data on their land under organic management, figures on land use patterns are not always available. The share of organic vineyards of all vineyards is still small. The percentage of organic vineyards is – with the exception of Greece, Italy, Spain - smaller than the percentage of organic land of all agricultural land in the respective countries. This is particularly striking for Austria and Switzerland where only little more than 1 % of the vineyards are organic whereas the total organic land is around eight per cent of all agricultural land. It is also... |

Due to the overlap of many disciplines and the availability of novel technologies, modern agriculture has become a wide, interdisciplinary endeavor, especially in Precision Agriculture. The adoption of a standard format for reporting field experiments can help researchers to focus on the data rather than on re-formatting and understanding the structure of the data. This paper describes how a European consortium plans to: i) create a “handbook” of protocols for reporting definitions, methodologies and parameters measured/calculated; and ii) how a data-template for field data was created and will be linked to the “handbook”. The overall goal of the EU-funded project Solutions for Solutions for improving Agroecosystem and Crop Efficiency for water and... |

Good research dissemination has to define the exploitable results, to produce suitable dissemination tools and select the best dissemination channels in order to bring the key messages to the target groups. Publications in peer-reviewed journals and other forms of written documents such as articles in popular journals or technical leaflets are traditionally the most selected tools and channels for research dissemination (Poulsen 2010). Because consolidated research results are available usually at the end of a research project only, continuous dissemination activities during the lifetime of a project is not always ensured. We argue that new media including blogs, YouTube videos, Facebook, and Twitter, can help to create an arena for a potential target... |
