Determination of photosynthetic pigments in fleabane biotypes susceptible and resistant to the Herbicide Glyphosate Planta Daninha
Kaspary,T.E.; Lamego,F.P.; Cutti,L.; Aguiar,A.C.M.; Bellé,C..
Chlorophylls and carotenoids are the main photosynthetic pigment in plants. In the weeds, the greatest amount of photosynthetic pigments can result in high competitiveness of the species. The aim of this study was to quantify the content of photosynthetic pigments in biotypes of fleabane (Conyza bonariensis) susceptible and resistant to glyphosate, by two different methods, as well as a correlation between chlorophyll content obtained by portable and classical methodology (extractable chlorophyll). An experiment was conducted in greenhouse and laboratory, 2 x 5 factorial scheme, where factor A was equivalent to biotypes of fleabane (resistant and susceptible to glyphosate) and factor B to developmental stages plants (rosette vegetative I, II and III and...

The nitrogen sufficiency index underlying estimates of nitrogen fertilization requirements of common bean Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Maia,Suelen Cristina Mendonça; Soratto,Rogério Peres; Nastaro,Beatriz; Freitas,Lucas Barbosa de.
Chlorophyll determination with a portable chlorophyll meter can indicate the period of highest N demand of plants and whether sidedressing is required or not. In this sense, defining the optimal timing of N application to common bean is fundamental to increase N use efficiency, increase yields and reduce the cost of fertilization. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the efficiency of N sufficiency index (NSI) calculated based on the relative chlorophyll index (RCI) in leaves, measured with a portable chlorophyll meter, as an indicator of time of N sidedressing fertilization and to verify which NSI (90 and 95 %) value is the most appropriate to indicate the moment of N fertilization of common bean cultivar Perola. The experiment was carried out in...

Nitrate reductase activity and spad readings in leaf tissues of guinea grass submitted to nitrogen and potassium rates Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Lavres Junior,José; Santos Junior,João de Deus Gomes dos; Monteiro,Francisco Antonio.
Nitrogen and K deficiency are among the most yield limiting factors in Brazilian pastures. The lack of these nutrients can hamper the chlorophyll biosynthesis and N content in plant tissues. A greenhouse experiment was carried out to evaluate the relationship among N and K concentrations, the indirect determination of chlorophyll content (SPAD readings), nitrate reductase activity (RNO3-) in newly expanded leaf lamina (NL) and the dry matter yield for plant tops of Mombaça grass (Panicum maximum Jacq.). A fractionated 5² factorial design was used, with 13 combinations of N and K rates in the nutrient solution. The experimental units were arranged in a randomized block design, with four replications. Plants were harvested twice. The first harvest occurred...

Pádua,Gilda Pizzolante de; França-Neto,José De Barros; Carvalho,Maria Laene Moreira de; Costa,Odair; Krzyzanowski,Francisco Carlos; Costa,Nilton Pereira Da.
The occurrence of green soybean seed due to forced maturation or premature plant death caused by drought or foliar and/or root diseases has been common in several Brazilian production areas. Physiological quality of seed lots with green seed may have their germination and vigor potentials affected and therefore discarded by the grain industry. The objective of this experiment was to determine the maximum tolerated level of green seed in soybean seed lots, which is information of major importance for seed producers when taking the decision whether to sell these lots. Soybean seed of the cultivars CD 206, produced in Ubirata, Parana, and ‘FMT Tucunare,’ produced in Alto Garças, Mato Grosso, were used in the study. Green seed and yellow seed of both cultivars...

Pádua,Gilda Pizzolante de; Carvalho,Maria Laene Moreira De; França-Neto,José De Barros; Guerreiro,Mário César; Guimarães,Renato Mendes.
Soybeans grown under water stress associated with high temperatures during seed maturation and pre-harvest may produce green seed (GS) with expressive reduction in seed quality. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the response of different soybean cultivars grown under these stressful conditions regarding their susceptibility to GS production and to determine the chlorophyll retention levels and the chlorophyllase activity in the seeds. Seeds of four soybean cultivars [BRS 133, CD 206, MG/BR 46 (Conquista) and BRSMG 251 (Robusta)] were grown under greenhouse conditions until R5.5. At R6, the plants were transferred to phytotrons under temperature stress (from 28ºC to 36ºC) and with water stresses of 10% gravimetric moisture, no water and normal...

Enzymatic regulation of photosynthetic and light-independent carbon fixation in Laminaria setchellii (Phaeophyta), Ulva lactuca (Chlorophyta) and Iridaea cordata (Rhodophyta) RChHN
CABELLO-PASINI,ALEJANDRO; ALBERTE,RANDALL S..
Carbon is acquired through photosynthetic and non-photosynthetic processes in marine algae. However, little is known about the biochemical regulation of these metabolic pathways along the thallus of seaweeds. Consequently, the objective of this study was to assess the distribution of in vivo carboxylation pathways and to relate them to the in vitro activity of ribulose 1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase (RUBISCO), phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase (PEPCK), and phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPC) in the Phaeophyte Laminaria setchellii, the Chlorophyte Ulva lactuca, and the Rhodophyte Iridaea cordata. Chlorophyll-a levels did not vary in U. lactuca and I. cordata. However, pigment levels were significantly lower in the meristematic region of L....

Use of light-emitting diode (LED) in the physiology of cultivated plants – review Sci. Agrar.Paran. / SAP
Lazzarini, Luiz Eduardo Santos; Pacheco, Fernanda Ventorim; Silva, Samia Torres; Coelho, Adriane Duarte; Medeiros, Ana Paula Ribeiro; Bertolucci, Suzan Kelly Vilela; Pinto, José Eduardo Brasil Pereira; Soares, Joyce Doria Rodrigues.
The objective of this study was to demonstrate the effects of the use of LED bulbs in the physiology of cultivated plants. Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) have been proposed as a light source for controlled environments or in plant growth chambers, since they have desirable characteristics for plant development. The development and physiology of plants are strongly influenced by the environment light spectrum provided by the LEDs, among which we can mention the blue, red, green, and their combinations. The blue light, for example, is responsible for a number of important photomorphogenetic features in plants, including stomatal control. Studies indicate that the red wavelength is efficiently absorbed by the pigments present in the plants, since its wavelength...

Combined effects of water status and iron deficiency chlorosis on grape composition in non-irrigated vineyards Scientia Agricola
González,María-Rosa; Hailemichael,Girma; Catalina,Álvaro; Martín,Pedro.
ABSTRACT: Although water deficit and iron deficiency chlorosis are common environmental stresses in the Mediterranean area, few data are reported in the literature on their effects on vineyards, when acting simultaneously. The main objective of this research was to study the combined effects of iron deficiency and water status on vigor, yield and fruit composition in rainfed vineyards. Moreover, the investigation aimed to evaluate the feasibility of using foliar chlorophyll content (Chl) and predawn leaf water potential (LWP), measured at veraison, to assess potential quality of grapes in the framework of precision viticulture. For this, 24 non-irrigated ‘Tempranillo’ vineyard subzones were monitored in Ribera del Duero (North-Central Spain) during three...
