Four new species of the subgenus Allodorus Foerster s.s. (= Eubazus semirugosus (Nees)-group s.s.; Braconidae: Helconinae) are described and illustrated: E. abieticola spec. nov. from France, Austria, Switzerland and Germany, E. elongatus spec. nov., E. ochyrus spec. nov., and E. heothinus spec. nov. from Canada. E. abieticola spec. nov. has been reared from Pissodes piceae (Illiger) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) in the cambium layer of Abies alba Linnaeus, and E. heothinus spec. nov. from P. striatulus (Fabricius) in the trunk of Abies balsemea (Linnaeus). A key to the Holarctic species of the subgenus Allodorus s.s. is added. New synonyms are: Brachistes noctua Ratzeburg, 1844, B. firmus Ratzeburg, 1844, Sigalphus tenthredinum Hartig, 1847, and Calyptus... |

Diaphorocera, a Saharo-Sindian genus belonging to the tribe Cerocomini, is revised and a new synonymy is proposed. A cladistic classification is proposed as well, on a set of adult morphological characters. The available bionomical records, both original and from literature, concerning phenology, elevation, habitat preference, and host plants, are summarised. Adult morphology of all species is described and figured, the catalogue of localities with maps of distribution is reported, and a biogeographical analysis is proposed. |

Five new European species of the subgenus Allodorus Foerster s.l. belonging to the Eubazus aliochinoigroup (Braconidae: Helconinae: Brachistini) are described and illustrated: E. shishiniovae spec. nov. from Bulgaria, E. zelinensis spec. nov. from Bulgaria, E. tricoloripes spec. nov. from The Netherlands and England, E. glabriclypealis spec. nov. from Switzerland, France and Bulgaria, and E. convexope spec. nov. from Scotland. A key to the European species of the Eubazus aliochinoi-group is added. Eubazus rufithorax (Tobias, 1986) (not Eubazus rufithorax Abdinbekova, 1969) is renamed as E. (Aliolus) regularis nom. nov. Eubazus denticlypealis (Tobias, 1986) is a new combination, and E. corrugatus (Ruthe, 1867) is a new synonym of E. rugosus (Ratzeburg, 1848). |

A revision of the Indo-Australian species and notes on the African species of Phaeochrous are given. Nine new species and three new subspecies are described, viz., Phaeochrous australicus (Australia), compactus (Sri Lanka), elevatus (South India, Sri Lanka), enigmaticus (Java, Bangla Desh, China), lobatus (Philippines), madrassicus (South India), pletus (Timor), portuum (Papua New Guinea), pseudintermedius (Vietnam, South China), P. dissimilis subsp. vietnamicola (Vietnam, South China), emarginatus subsp. buruensis (Moluccas), intermedius subsp. occidentalis (North India, Bhutan). A neotype for Phaeochrous emarginatus Castelnau is designated. Two species hitherto considered synonyms of P. emarginatus are recognized as species and subspecies respectively,... |

Born on 13 September 1931 in Rotterdam, Jacobus Theodorus [Koos] Wiebes read biology at Leiden University where he obtained his Ph.D. in 1963 on studies of Indo-Australian fig wasps. He started working on spiders (Lycosidae, Pisauridae) and beetles (Carabidae, Cetoniidae, Helodidae), but he earned his scientific reputation as a specialist in fig wasps (Hymenoptera: Agaonidae, Torymidae), their parasitoids and intricate host relationships (1961-1994: 89 papers). He served for many years on the staff of the Rijksmuseum van Natuurlijke Historie, Leiden (1955-1970, initially as assistant, later as curator of Coleoptera and as assistant director since 1965), to return as director of the newly merged national zoology and geology museums (ad interim 1982-1984,... |
