The first report of massive infestation with Lipoptena Cervi ( Diptera: Hippoboscidae ) in Roe Deer ( Capreolus Capreolus ) in Iasi county, N-E of Romania Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Lazăr,M.; Iacob,O.C.; Solcan,C.; Pașca,S.A.; Lazăr,R.; Boișteanu,P.C..
ABSTRACT Investigations of four roe deer corpses were carried out from May until October 2014, in the Veterinary Forensic Laboratory and in the Parasitic Diseases Clinic, in the Iasi Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. The roe deer were harvested by shooting during the trophy hunting season. The clinical examination of the shot specimens revealed the presence of a highly consistent number of extremely mobile apterous insects, spread on the face, head, neck, lateral body parts, abdominal regions, inguinal, perianal and, finally, all over the body. The corpses presented weakening, anemia and cutaneous modification conditions. Several dozen insects were prelevated in a glass recipient and preserved in 70º alcoholic solution in order to identify the ectoparasite...

Presence of ascites in bullfrog breeders reared and kept on a frog farm Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Seixas Filho,J.T.; Santana,A.C.; Martins,A.C.P.F.; Mesquita,E.F.M.; Mello,S.C.R.P.; Hipolito,M..
ABSTRACT Ascites is a pathology characterized by the extravasation of fluid from blood vessels and its accumulation in the abdominal cavity, caused by several associated factors. In this paper, we report the occurrence of this syndrome in breeding male and female Bullfrogs fed a commercial fish feed with 40% crude protein. Liver malformation was already observed due to lack of protein deposition in adult animals from the same spawning. The culture of ascitic fluid showed absence of bacterial growth. Kidney histopathology showed, in both sexes, a large number of tubular structures with strongly eosinophilic hyaline material suggesting colloid growth in both the cortical region and spinal cord. The analysis also revealed granulomas in various stages of...

Effect of 0.25 ppm Ozone exposure on pulmonary damage induced by bleomycin Biol. Res.
OYARZÚN,MANUEL; DUSSAUBAT,NELSON; GONZÁLEZ,SERGIO.
To study the effect of ozone in a chronically damaged lung, we used a bleomycin (BLM) induced pulmonary fibrosis model. Both endotracheal instillation of BLM and O3 exposure both produce lung inflammation and fibrosis. Oxidative stress would be a common mechanism of damage for both BLM and O3. Our aim was to assess lung injury induced by 5 and 60 days of intermittent exposure to 0.25 ppm O3 in rats with bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis. Thirty-day-old Sprague Dawley rats were endotracheally instilled with BLM (1 U/100 g body weight) and, 30 days later, exposed to 0.25 ppm O3 (0.25 ppm 4 h per day, 5 days a week). Histopatology controls were instilled with saline and breathing room air. Histopathological evaluation of lungs was done 5 and 60 days after...

Effects of sub-lethal exposure of lead acetate on histopathology of gills, liver, kidney and muscle and its accumulation in these organs of Clarias gariepinus BABT
Al-Balawi,Hmoud Fares Alkahem; Al-Akel,Ali Sulaiman; Al-Misned,Fahad; Suliman,El Amin Mohamed; Al-Ghanim,Khalid Abdullah; Mahboob,Shahid; Ahmad,Zubair.
The aim of this work was to study the effects of sub-lethal exposure of lead acetate on the histopathology of the gills, liver, kidney and muscle and its accumulation in these organs of Clarias gariepinus. Results showed that lead accumulation in the tissues of C. gariepinus was dependent on the exposure period and lead concentration. Gills and liver were the predominant storage tissue and the order of accumulation in tissues was gill > liver > kidney > muscle. Some structural changes were observed in different organs, especially in the gills of the fishes exposed to lead acetate. Epithelial hypertrophy and epithelial lifting were apparent in the gills of exposed fishes. The degeneration of cytoplasm and secondary lamellae was also observed....

Vitamin E and Sodium Selenite Against Mercuric Chloride-Induced Lung Toxicity in the Rats BABT
Celikoglu,Emine; Aslanturk,Ayse; Kalender,Yusuf.
The aim of the present study was to elucidate the possible protective role of vitamin E and / or sodium selenite on mercuric chloride-induced oxidative stress and histopathological changes in the lung tissue of the rats. Adult male albino Wistar rats were exposed to mercuric chloride (1.0 mg/kg day) for four weeks. Treatment with mercuric chloride led to oxidative stress by enhancing MDA level and also decreasing superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and glutathione S transferaz (GST) activities. However, mercuric chloride exposure resulted in histopathological changes in the lung tissue in the rats. MDA level and SOD, CAT GPx and GST activities and histopathological changes modulated in concomitantly supplementation of...

Histopathological Alterations in Common Carp (Cyprinus carpio L.) Gills Caused by Thiamethoxam BABT
Georgieva,Elenka; Stoyanova,Stela; Velcheva,Iliana; Yancheva,Vesela.
This work aimed to study the effect of new neonicotinoid thiamethoxam on the histological structure of common carp (Cyprinus carpio, L.) gills. Three experimental groups of fish were treated with 6.6, 10 and 20 mg/l thiamethoxam in laboratory conditions. Results showed different histological changes in the gill epithelium, which included lamellar lifting, edema, proliferation of the glandular cells and epithelium, covering the gill filament, fusion and degenerative alterations. The blood circulatory system showed mainly vasodilatation. All thiamethoxam concentrations activated compensatory-adaptive mechanisms, which caused pathological changes in the gills. Moreover, there was a tendency towards the enhancement of the gill histological changes, whose...
