Effects of NaCl-salinity on growth and inorganic solute accumulation in young cashew plants AGRIAMBI
Viégas,Ricardo A.; Silveira,Joaquim A. G. da; Lima Junior,Adeildo R. de; Queiroz,José E.; Fausto,Maria J. M..
The NaCl effects on the growth and inorganic solute accumulation were studied on 30-day-old cashew plants (Anacardium occidentale L.) hydroponically grown for 8 days (short term) and 40 days (long-term) with NaCl at different levels. The shoot fresh mass yielded after 40 days, in response to 50 and 100 mol m-3 NaCl, decreased by 25 and 75%, respectively. This decrease was markedly low in root fresh mass, which did not change under 50 mol m-3 NaCl and decreased nearly to 30% under 100 mol m-3 NaCl, as compared to control plants. In short-term experiment, salinity induced only slight changes of K+ tissue concentrations in the whole plant. In the long-term experiment, K+ tissue concentrations were substantially decreased, particularly in roots. In response to...

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN YIELD AND FRUIT QUALITY OF PASSION FRUIT C03 PROGENIES UNDER DIFFERENT NUTRITIONAL LEVELS Rev. Bras. Frutic.
SANTOS,CARLOS LACY; VIANA,ALEXANDRE PIO; FREITAS,MARTA SIMONE MENDONÇA DE; CARVALHO,ALMY JUNIOR CORDEIRO DE; RODRIGUES,DANIELE LIMA.
ABSTRACT The present study was conducted to evaluate different fertilization-management strategies in ten progenies of passion fruit from the third recurrent selection cycle and their effects on yield and fruit-quality traits. For this purpose, we adopted the strategy of correlations analysis, using the phenotypic and path correlations in different environmental conditions characterized by three levels of fertilization. The trial was set up as a randomized-block design in a split-plot arrangement with progenies representing the plots and three levels of potassium-nitrogen fertilization as the sub-plots, with three replicates. Path analysis showed that number of fruits was the variable of highest correlation with fruit diameter at fertilization I. Fruit...

Influence of rootstock on nutrient content in grape petioles Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Dalbó,Marco Antonio; Schuck,Enio; Basso,Clori.
Genetic diversity of rootstocks can affect nutrient uptake and the nutrient status of grapevines. The rootstock influence on nutrient content in grape petioles was evaluated on three rootstocks competition experiments carried out at Vale do Rio do Peixe region, in the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil, with the cultivars Niagara Rosada, Concord, and Isabella, grafted on different rootstocks. Two soil liming depths were also evaluated in the Isabella experiment. The greatest rootstock effect was observed on K and Mg content and K/Mg ratio in the petioles. The Vitis vinifera x V. rotundifolia hybrid rootstocks VR 043-43 and VR 044-4 provided the highest K/Mg values and self rooted Isabella the lowest K/Mg ratio. The other tested rootstocks resulted in...

Osmolality and ions of the perivisceral coelomic fluid of the intertidal sea urchin Echinometra lucunter (Echinodermata: Echinoidea) upon salinity and ionic challenges Rev. Bras. Zool.
Freire,Carolina A; Santos,Ivonete A; Vidolin,Denilton.
The intertidal sea-urchin Echinometra lucunter (Linnaeus, 1758) has been submitted to diluted sea water (SW) of salinity 25, or concentrated sea water of salinity 45. In addition, ionic challenges have been offered, supplementing 25 SW with Mg2+, Ca2+ or K+, until the concentration of each of these ions would reach the level of full-strength 35 SW (control). Perivisceral coelomic fluid has been sampled after six hours in these treatments for measurements of osmolality and concentrations of Na+, Cl-, Mg2+, Ca2+, and K+. Urchins have been further observed until five days. SW concentration (45) lead urchins to death after two days of exposure, while urchins tolerated five days in 25 SW without any sign of distress. Urchins displayed osmoconformation and...

Total soil electrical conductivity and critical soil K+ to Ca2+ and Mg2+ ratio for potato crops Scientia Agricola
Reis Jr.,Roberto Anjos; Fontes,Paulo Cezar Rezende; Neves,Júlio Cesar Lima; Santos,Nerilson Terra.
Soil K+ to Ca2+ and Mg2+ ratio as well as the total salinity were evaluated in response to potassium fertilizer application onto potato. Potassium was applied at six different rates (0, 60, 120, 240, 480 and 960 kg ha-1 of K2O), as K2SO4, and was placed during planting time in the furrow. Soil from the 0-200 mm layer was collected in the furrow, 20 and 48 days after plant emergence (DAE) to evaluate soil pH, K+, Ca2+ and Mg2+ contents and the total electrical conductivity (EC). A factorial design (6x2), with six K rates and two sampling times was set up in a randomized block design with four replications. The application of K fertilizer increased exchangeable K, did not affect pH and exchangeable Ca and Mg contents, but caused a linear increase of the soil...

Genotype selection and addition of fertilizer increases grain yield in upland rice in Suriname Acta Amazonica
NASCENTE,Adriano Stephan; KROMOCARDI,Ruby.
ABSTRACT The upland rice farmers in Suriname use local varieties and low level technologies in the field. As a result, the upland rice grain yield is low, at about 1 000 kg ha-1. Our objective was to evaluate the use of upland rice cultivars from Suriname and Brazil, and the effect of nitrogen, N, phosphorus, P, and potassium, K, fertilizers on cultivation variables. We undertook four field trials in the Victoria Area, in the Brokopondo District, using a randomized block design each with four replications. The most productive rice varieties were BRS Esmeralda (grain yield 2 903 kg ha-1) and BRS Sertaneja (2 802 kg ha-1). The highest grain yield of 2 620 kg ha-1 was achieved with a top dressing application of 76.41 kg N ha-1 20 days after sowing. For P, the...

Effect of salt stress on physiology and agronomy characterstic of barley cultivars CIGR Journal
sorkhi, farshad.
In most northwest provinces of Iran such as West Azarbaijan province, soil salinity is a growing problem, particularly in irrigated agricultural areas, and has been found to reduce barley yield, dramatically. To investigate the effect of sodium chloride on two barley (Hordeum vulgare) cultivars, four levels of salinity: 0, 4, 8 and 12 dS/m, were employed as a factorial experiment arranged in a completely randomized design with three replications in a controlled environment of the greenhouse during 2017-2018. The results indicated that increasing salinity from 0 to 12 dS/m, decreased the emergence percentage significantly. Two cultivars of Zarjoo and Valfajr responded differently to salinity, so that Zarjoo showed a significantly higher emergence rate. This...

Osmotic stress induced by polyethylene-glycol alters macronutrient concentrations in sugarcane (Saccharum spp.) plants in vitro Agrociencia
Castañeda-Castro,Odón; Gómez-Merino,Fernando C.; Trejo-Téllez,Libia I.; Pastelín-Solano,Miriam C..
The potential capacity of plant roots to absorb water and nutrients generally declines in osmotic-stressed plants, presumably because of a reduction in the nutrient element demand, and such decrease varies among plant genotypes. In order to investigate the effect of the osmotic stress caused by polyethylene-glycol 6000 (PEG) on the macronutrient concentration in sugarcane (Saccharum spp.) in vitro, we established a factorial experiment with a completely randomized distribution. Study factors were variety (Mex 69-290 and CP 72-2086) and PEG in the nutrient medium (0, 3, 6 and 9 %, to generate osmotic potential corresponding to -0.18, -0.45, -0.65 and -0.80 MPa, respectively), which resulted in eight treatments, with five replicates each. Abstract The long tradition of green bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) cultivation in Croatia has resulted in the development of a landraces adapted to specific areas and chosen to suit different dietary habits. The hypothesis of our study was that nutritional quality (content of proteins, sugars, fibres, calcium, potassium and phosphorus in fresh pods) of 14 widely grown Croatian green bean accessions is affected by origin and morphotype. The analysed accessions were grown in non-replicated field plots where morphotypes were classified. The gene pool of adscription (Andean vs. Mesoamerican) of each accession was determined with the phaseolin marker, whereas nutritional quality traits were analysed according to standard analytical methods. The relationships...

Exchangeable basic cations and nitrogen distribution in soil as affected by crop residues and nitrogen BABT
Rosolem,Ciro Antonio.
In this work, a greenhouse experiment was conducted to study the effects of N fertilization and residues of pearl millet, black oats and oilseed radish on pH and Ca, Mg, K, NO3-, and NH4+ distribution within the profile of a Distroferric Red Latosol. The equivalent of 8 t ha-1 of plant residues were placed on soil surface. Lime was applied on the soil surface and nitrogen was applied over the straw at 0, 50, 100, and 150 mg kg-1, as ammonium nitrate. Corn was grown for 57 days. Calcium contents and pH in the soil profile were decreased by Pearl millet residue, while black oat and oilseed radish increased Ca contents and these effects are not related with Ca contents in residue tissue. However, the presence of plant residues increased nitrate, ammonium, and...
