Temperature Dependent Seed Germination of Dalbergia nigra Allem (Leguminosae) BABT
Ferraz-Grande,Fernanda G. A.; Takaki,Massanori.
The germination of endangered species Dalbergia nigra was studied and 30.5° C was found as optimum temperature, although the species presented a broad temperature range where germination occurs and light had no effect. The analysis of kinetics of seed germination confirmed the asynchronized germination below and above the optimum temperature. The light insensitive seed and germination also at high temperatures indicated that D. nigra could occur both in understories and gaps where the mean temperature was high.

Bioremediation of dyes by fungi isolated from contaminated dye effluent sites for bio-usability BJM
Rani,Babita; Kumar,Vivek; Singh,Jagvijay; Bisht,Sandeep; Teotia,Priyanku; Sharma,Shivesh; Kela,Ritu.
Biodegradation and detoxification of dyes, Malachite green, Nigrosin and Basic fuchsin have been carried out using two fungal isolates Aspergillus niger, and Phanerochaete chrysosporium, isolated from dye effluent soil. Three methods were selected for biodegradation, viz. agar overlay and liquid media methods; stationary and shaking conditions at 25 °C. Aspergillus niger recorded maximum decolorization of the dye Basic fuchsin (81.85%) followed by Nigrosin (77.47%), Malachite green (72.77%) and dye mixture (33.08%) under shaking condition. Whereas, P. chrysosporium recorded decolorization to the maximum with the Nigrosin (90.15%) followed by Basic fuchsin (89.8%), Malachite green (83.25%) and mixture (78.4%). The selected fungal strains performed better...

Presence of the cytolytic protein enterolobin in different developmental stages of Enterolobium contortisiliquum seeds Braz. J. Plant Physiol.
Lima,Consuelo M. R. de; Zanotta,Pedro J. P.; Ricart,Carlos A. O.; Sousa,Marcelo V. de.
Enterolobin is a 52.9 kDa, cytolytic, inflammatory and insecticidal protein present in Enterolobium contortisiliquum (Vell.) Morong, a Brazilian large-sized tree. This protein was previously described to occur in different forms of association (monomeric and oligomeric forms). In the current work, we investigated the presence of enterolobin forms of association and hemolytic activity in maturing, germinating and germinated seeds. Immunoblotting analysis revealed the presence of the monomeric form of enterolobin in all phases under study, whereas the dimer was detected in developing seeds in the second half of the maturation period, during germination and in the early post-germination phase. The trimeric form of enterolobin appeared one week after the dimer...

Propagation studies in Smilax fluminensis Steud. (Smilacaceae) Ciência Rural
Soares,Anielca Nascimento; Novembre,Ana Dionísia da Luz Coelho; Martins,Aline Redondo; Piedade,Sônia Maria de Stefano; Appezzato-da-Glória,Beatriz.
Smilax L. species, popularly known in Brazil as salsaparrilha, have been used in folk medicine as tonic against rheumatism and as anti-syphilitic since the sixteenth century; however, until today, their roots have been explored in an extractive way. The aim of this study was to analyze the propagation of Smilax fluminensis aiming to meet the demand and to propose procedures for its sustainable management. It was analyzed the percentage of seed germination, rooting of aerial and subterranean stem cuttings and plant resprouting capacity after removal of the shoots. The monitoring lasted one year. Seeds were subjected to temperatures: 25°C, 30°C, 20-30°C and 20-35°C under a daily photoperiod of eight hours and in the absence of light. For rooting the stem...

Phosphate fertilization on production and quality of cauliflower seeds Ciência Rural
Cardoso,Antonio Ismael Inácio; Claudio,Marina de Toledo Rodrigues; Magro,Felipe Oliveira; Freitas,Pâmela Gomes Nakada.
ABSTRACT: Due to the scarcity of information related to the effect of fertilizers on production and quality of vegetable seeds, mainly on species which present an increase in the cycle, like cauliflower, more studies are necessary about the influence of nutrients rates which provide high production of high-quality seeds. This research aimed to evaluate the influence of rates of phosphorus (P) on the production and quality of cauliflower seeds. Five rates of phosphorus were studied (0, 300, 600, 900 and 1200kg ha-1 of P2O5), in a randomized complete block design, with four replications. Production and quality (weight of a thousand seeds, germination test, first count of germination test and emergence in substrate) of the seeds and soil chemical...
