| This Deliverable 3.2 report presents an analysis of differences between EEC Regulation 2092/91 and other organic standards and their implementation, using a specially developed database (www.organicrules.org). It further reports on database development. The work was carried out as part of the “EEC 2092/91 (Organic) Revision” STREP project (No. SSPE-CT- 2004-502397) within the EU 6th Framework Programme. The main objective was to identify differences in organic standards in relation to Regulation (EEC) 2092/91 and to analyse selected national governmental and private organic standards with the aim of identifying specific areas in the (EEC) 2092/91 where revision in terms of harmonisation, regionalisation or simplification may be possible. |

| Ziel des Vorhabens ist die Erhöhung der Markttransparenz im Bereich des Ökologischen Landbaus durch Bereitstellung eines Verzeichnisses von Unternehmen, die dem Kontrollverfahren nach VO(EWG) Nr. 2092/91 unterstehen und Produkte entsprechend kennzeichnen dürfen. There is concern that the involvement of large companies and global trade influences both the standards and the working practices of producers. | A same-but-different dichotomy has recently been encapsulated within the ill-defined concept of “substantial equivalence”. By invoking this concept the genetically modified organism (GMO) industry has escaped the rigors of safety testing that might otherwise apply. The curious concept of “substantial equivalence” grants a presumption of safety to GMO food. This presumption has yet to be earned, and has been used to constrain labelling of both GMO and non-GMO food. It is an idea that well serves corporatism. It enables the claim of difference to secure patent protection, while upholding the contrary claim of sameness to avoid labelling and safety scrutiny. | Während lange Zeit Bioprodukte ausschliesslich über Dirketvermarktung, Reform- und Naturkostläden abgesetzt wurden, findet ihre Vermarktung seit Mitte der 90'er Jahre zunehmend in Supermärkten statt. Heute gibt es kaum noch Handelsketten in Europa, die keine Bioprodukte verkauft. Umfang des Engagements sowie Erfolg im Verkauf von Bioprodukten unterscheidet sich jedoch von Unternehmen zu Unternehmen deutlich. | Ziel des im Rahmen des BÖL geförderten Projektes war die Weiterentwicklung des Kontrollverfahrens nach VO (EWG) Nr. 2092/91 (EG-Öko-VO) hinsichtlich der Überprüfung des Einsatzverbotes genetisch veränderter Organismen (GVO) und deren Derivate bei ökologisch erzeugten Produkten. Es wurde als Kooperation zwischen dem Bundesinstitut für Risikobewertung (BfR) und der Kontrollstelle Gesellschaft für Ressourcenschutz mbH (GfRS) durchgeführt. Methodische Grundlagen des Kontrollverfahrens wurden analysiert, wobei die Schnittstellen zwischen ökologischer und konventioneller Produktion von besonderem Interesse waren. | Im Rahmen des Projekts wurde die Erfahrung von Initiativen systematisiert, die sich derzeit in Deutschland mit sozialen Standards profilieren wollen, die über die derzeitigen Richtlinien der ökologischen Anbauverbände hinausgehen. Näher untersucht wurden sieben Initiativen; davon drei, die von Verbänden ausgehen (Naturland, Biokreis, Demeter) und vier, die von Unternehmensnetzwerken gegründet wurden (BioFairVerein, fair®ional Bio Berlin-Brandenburg, RegioFair Zentralschweiz, Regionalwert AG). | The characterisation of the genetic identity of DNA recoverable from olive oil could facilitate the assessment of its place of origin and conformity to type thanks to the particular regional spread of olive cultivars and to their different contributions to the olive oil mixture as stated by each Protected Designation of Origin regulation. This requires that intact DNA should be recovered from virgin olive oil. In an attempt to recover DNA from virgin olive oil, the performance of three different oil production methods was compared.
