Stay-green character and its contribution in Brazilian wheats Ciência Rural
Luche,Henrique de Souza; Silva,José Antônio Gonzalez da; Nornberg,Rafael; Hawerroth,Maraisa Crestani; Silveira,Solange Ferreira da Silveira; Caetano,Vanderlei da Rosa; Santos,Rodrigo Lisboa; Figueiredo,Ricardo Garcia; Maia,Luciano Carlos da; Oliveira,Antônio Costa de.
ABSTRACT: The stay-green character has been related to greater stress tolerance and yield through longer activity of the photosynthetic apparatus. Association of this character with grain yield may be linked to a network of features other than the grain mass. This study aimed to shed light on the actual contribution of stay-green character in Brazilian wheats and the associations between grain yield components in different environmental conditions. The experiment was conducted in a randomized block design with three replications in the years 2003, 2004 and 2005. Sibling lines with and without the stay-green character were evaluated analyzing the phenotypic correlation and path analysis separately by year and maturity group. Under favorable growing...

Lopes,Clenardo Macedo; Paciullo,Domingos Sávio Campos; Araújo,Saulo Alberto do Carmo; Morenz,Mirton José Frota; Gomide,Carlos Augusto de Miranda; Maurício,Rogério Martins; Braz,Thiago Gomes dos Santos.
ABSTRACT: The silvopastoral system has been suggested as an alternative to recover degraded pastures in tropical regions. However, trees reduce the light available for pastures, which may affect the growth and herbage accumulation. The objective of this study was to evaluate the morphogenesis, canopy structure and herbage accumulation of signalgrass ( Brachiaria decumbens ) subjected to three light regimes (0, 20 and 70% of natural shading) and two fertilization levels (presence or absence of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium). Leaf and stem elongation rates increased under shading but did not vary with fertilization. The leaf appearance rate was greater under fertilizer treatment but was generally similar among light regimes. The tiller density was...

Blanco-Rios,Ana Karina; Medina-Juarez,Luis Angel; Gamez-Meza,Nohemí.
ABSTRACT: The effects of sun-drying, air-drying and pickling processes on phenol and capsaicinoid contents, and free radical-scavenging activity [2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), and 2,2′-azino-bis 3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulphonic acid (ABTS)] in Anaheim (red) and Jalapeño peppers were evaluated. Sun-drying process in Anaheim pepper caused the highest phenols retention (100%), and the free radical-scavenging activity (100%) when compared with air-drying (80%). Pickling process in Jalapeño pepper caused a moderate reduction on the phenol content (24%) and the radical-scavenging activity by DPPH (35%). Processes studied did not cause variations in the capsaicinoid fractions neither in its radical-scavenging activity. Results suggested that dried and...

Multivariate analysis and neural networks application to price forecasting in the Brazilian agricultural market Ciência Rural
Pinheiro,Carlos Alberto Orge; Senna,Valter de.
ABSTRACT: The purpose of this study is to apply the methodology proposed by PINHEIRO & SENNA (2015) to a set of agricultural products traded in Brazil. The multivariate and nonlinear character of this methodology has shown to be suitable, as compared to the neural network model, since it allows for a better predictive performance. Results obtained in an out-of-sample period, by using the calculated error and statistical test, confirmed this statement. This study will be useful to farmers as price forecasting based on their tendency is relevant.
