| The Norwegian Centre for Organic Agriculture (NORSØK), in collaboration with the Norwegian Agricultural Extension Service (NLR), Debio and the Norwegian Association of Sheep and Goat Farmers (NSG), has written a report to provide practical solutions to meet the requirements of the EU-regulation about a solid lying area for at least 0,75 m2 of 1,5 m2 per sheep and 0,18 m2 of 0,35 m2 per lamb in organic production. It was made drawings and cost estimates for six different examples in the report, and six different info-sheets was made, one for each of the six examples. This is the first of the six examples. | The aim of the present study was to evaluate spring cereal(barley and oat)variety mixtures for their weed suppression ability in agroecological conditions of Latvia. It was concluded that in two-years tudy,investigated spring cereal variety mixtures did not show better ability to suppress weeds if compared to their pure components.Additional studies would be necessary to evaluate root development and allelopathic activity of crop and weed plants. |

| This teaching document explains how good compost is made. Compost is the solid, crumble, brownish to dark brown product of an aerobic degradation of biogenic waste or organic material. There are huge numbers of microorganisms working under constant access of air (oxygen) and with sufficient moisture in the material mix. There is not only degradation, but also formation of new compounds. Compost has to be treated like a living organism. A healthy compost can bring many advantages to the soil and to the plants, but an unhealthycompost can bring disadvantages for plant growth. |

| Op proefveld Mest Als Kans worden 12 organische mestsoorten en composten vergeleken met kunstmest. Na vijf jaar ontstaat er een constant beeld in opbrengstverschillen tussen kunstmest (laag), gemiddeld overige meststoffen en Postalmest compost (hoog). Het Pw-getal is in alle behandelingen gedaald waarbij Potstalmest er positief uitspringt (relatief geringe daling) en VAM compost negatief (relatief sterke daling). Bij veel behandelingen daalt het bodem organische stof gehalte. Positieve uitzonderingen zijn Rundvee dunne mest en Potstalmestcompost met relatief grote stijging ten opzichte van aangevoerde organisceh stof. VAM compost geeft de sterkste stijging maar kent ook de grootste aanvoer. |

| Maaimeststoffen in bedrijfs- en ketenverband Wie duurzaam landbouw bedrijft, zorgt goed voor de bodem. Naast aanvoer van mineralen vormt organische stof een sleutel bij de bemesting. De toepassing van maaimeststoffen biedt mogelijkheden voor het akker- en tuinbouwbedrijf. Maaimeststoffen zijn gewassen die worden gemaaid en vervolgens als plantaardige meststof worden ingezet op een ander perceel dan waar ze geteeld zijn. In deze brochure beschrijven we hoe maaimeststoffen ingezet kunnen worden en wat dat betekent voor de mineralenstromen op het bedrijf en voor de bodem. Natuurlijk met volop praktische tips, zodat u direct zelf aan de slag kunt. |

We would particularly like to draw your attention to the 1st article on page 2 about the next LowInputBreeds symposium which takes place from May 15 to 18 2012 in Tunisia – this is an ideal opportunity to share findings from the project and we would like to encourage all partners to submit an abstract. |

| Mineralen zijn nodig voor een goede weerstand, gezondheid, groei en productie van melkvee. Melkvee dat krachtvoer krijgt, heeft niet snel tekorten aan mineralen. Echter, rantsoenen van uitsluitend ruwvoeder leveren vaak onvoldoende mineralen. Met name de koper- en seleniumvoorziening staan in deze rantsoenen onder druk. Door ruwvoerrijke rantsoenen moeten biologische bedrijven dus extra aandacht besteden aan de mineralenvoorziening. Kruiden bevatten meer mineralen dan gras. In dit Biokennisbericht meer inzicht in wat men kan verwachten van kruiden voor de mineralenvoorziening van melkvee (schapen, geiten en koeien). |
