Cnidogenesis in the jewel anemone Corynactis californica (Carlgren, 1936) and C. viridis (Allman, 1846) (Anthozoa: Corallimorpharia) Naturalis
Robson, E.A..
Precursor stages of large holotrichs in the mesenterial filaments of Corynactis californica and C.viridis have been visualised by simple methods using stained whole-mount preparations. Samples were taken from mesenterial filaments emitted during aggressive behaviour (which is reported for the first time in C. viridis). Results suggest that in natural conditions localised stimuli may provoke discharge along short stretches of mesenterial filament, followed by localised recruitment within these depleted areas.

Larger foraminifera on reefs around Bali (Indonesia) Naturalis
Renema, W..
The larger benthic foraminifera fauna from four regions at or near Bali are described. In 132 samples in total 19 species were found. This is a similar to species richness in areas like the Spermonde and Cebu, but the fauna composition differed markedly. For each species the occurrence at Bali and environmental parameters affecting this distribution are discussed. It is argued that the very low abundance of imperforate species is not due to the absence of their microhabitat, but due to climatic or oceanographic parameters. The most likely is the presence of periodic upwelling, which causes the seawater temperature to drop to low levels seasonally.

Re-description of Phymactis papillosa (Lesson, 1830) and Phymanthea pluvia (Drayton in Dana, 1846) (Cnidaria: Anthozoa), two common actiniid sea anemones from the south east Pacific with a discussion of related genera Naturalis
Häussermann, V..
Actiniid sea anemones possess few characteristics of taxonomic value, which makes columnar outgrowths one of the most important features for systematic work. There are two species of actiniid sea anemones known from Chile and southern Peru that exhibit a column densely covered with non-adhesive vesicles: Phymactis papillosa (Lesson, 1830) (= Phymactis clematis) and Phymanthea pluvia (Drayton in Dana, 1846). Hereby both are re-described in detail. The re-descriptions are based on observations of about 100 living animals in their habitat and in aquaria and on the examination of 21 specimens of P. papillosa and seven specimens of P. pluvia collected in Chile between 1995 and 2003. In Chile, specimens of both species occur in tide-pools, on vertical and...

Larger benthic foraminifera and their distribution patterns on the Spermonde shelf, South Sulawesi Naturalis
Renema, W.; Hoeksema, B.W.; Hinte, J.E. van.
A systematic description of the distributional pattern of 20 species of larger benthic foraminifera on the Spermonde Archipelago and their relation with environmental parameters is presented. Around 13 islands transects at the exposed and leeward slope were sampled. Apart from parameters like substrate type, hydrodynamic energy and light intensity (directly related to depth) also nutrient availability and environmental stabiltity determine the distribution over the shelf. Some of the species, and especially the calcarinids, are less specialised to some of these parameters than in other areas. Elphidium craticulatum, showing chloroplast husbandry, is an important fauna component.

Revision of the Antipatharia (Cnidaria: Anthozoa). Part III. Cladopathidae Naturalis
Opresko, D.M..
The family of antipatharian corals Cladopathidae (Cnidaria: Anthozoa: Antipatharia) is revised. The family is characterized by polyps 2 mm or more in transverse diameter, six primary mesenteries, and no secondary mesenteries. The family is divided into three subfamilies: Cladopathinae Kinoshita, Hexapathinae subfam. nov. and Sibopathinae subfam. nov. The subfamily Cladopathinae is characterized by a branched pinnulate corallum with three or more rows of primary pinnules, some of which are subpinnulate. Included in the subfamily are the genera Cladopathes Brook (C. plumosa Brook, 1889), Chrysopathes gen. nov. (C. formosa spec. nov. and C. speciosa spec. nov.) and Trissopathes gen. nov. [T. pseudotristicha spec. nov., T. tetracrada spec. nov., and T....
