Mathematical modeling for digestible protein in animal feeds for tilapia R. Bras. Zootec.
Vidal,Luiz Vítor Oliveira; Furuya,Wilson Massamitu; Martins,Elias Nunes; Xavier,Tadeu Orlandi; Michelato,Mariana; Graciano,Themis Sakaguti.
The objective of this study was to formulate mathematical models to estimate digestible protein in some animal feeds for tilapia. Literature results of the proximate composition of crude protein, ether extract, and mineral matter, as well as digestible protein obtained in biological assays, were used. The data were subjected to multiple linear stepwise backward regression. Path analysis was performed to measure the direct and indirect effects of each independent variable on the dependent one. To validate the model, the experience used data from independent studies and values obtained from a digestibility trial with juvenile Nile tilapia testing five meat and bone meals, using the Guelph feces collecting system and chromium oxide (III) as an indicator. The...

Santos,Mércia Virginia Ferreira dos; Lira,Mário de Andrade; Dubeux Junior,José Carlos Batista; Guim,Adriana; Mello,Alexandre Carneiro Leão de; Cunha,Márcio Vieira da.
Caatinga is the most important biome for the livestock in the Brazilian semi-arid region. This review paper aimed to present information on different forage aspects of caatinga vegetation for ruminant feeding. Caatinga vegetation is formed mainly by shrubs and small trees, usually presenting thorns, deciduous leaves, and leaf abscission occurring frequently at the onset of the dry season. Additional components of the botanical composition in this biome includes the families cactaceae, bromeliaceae, and a herbaceous component formed by grasses, legumes, and forbs, often presenting annual cycle. Quantitative information of caatinga vegetation is scarce in the literature, mainly for the herbaceous stratum. Methodological aspects such as lack of...

Brum,Olívio Bochi; López,Secundino; García,Ricardo; Andrés,Sonia; Calleja,Alfredo.
The aim of the present study was to investigate the influence of cutting frequency, harvest season and nitrogen fertilization on yield and floristic composition of the herbage harvested from a mountain meadow. The meadow was divided into 22 plots, each receiving a different N P K fertilization treatment. The study lasted seven years, and during the first three years (1985-1987) each plot was harvested twice per year (June and September) according to a traditional harvest system, whereas in the years 1989-1991 each plot was harvested three times per year (spring, summer and autumn) following a more intensive harvest system. Nitrogen fertilizer favoured the development of the grasses in spring, thus reducing the proportion of legumes in the two cut harvest...

Mathematical models applied to the optimisation of mixtures in the production of silage from coffee by-products Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Malta,Marcelo Ribeiro; Cirillo,Marcelo Ângelo; Fassio,Larissa de Oliveira; Barcelos,Adauto Ferreira; Lima,Priscilla Magalhães de.
ABSTRACT The aim of this work was to propose a mathematical model to determine the best combination of the by-products of coffee processing in the production of silage. To this end, 13 treatments were evaluated, resulting from the combination of wet coffee husks (WCH) and dried coffee husks (DCH), both with and without the use of molasses (M) and with or without the use of the inoculant Lactobacillus plantarum (I). From these components, various mixtures were proposed and evaluated, using the technique of simultaneous optimisation of multiple response variables. Silages with the best characteristics were obtained from the use of 76.40% WCH, 18.77% DCH, 4.83% of M and 0.0001% I.

Common bean residue as additive in sugarcane silage Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Santos,Kelly Cristina dos; Magalhães,André Luiz Rodrigues; Conceição,Maria Gabriela da; Carvalho,Francisco Fernando Ramos de; Ferreira,Geane Dias Gonçalves.
ABSTRACT The sugarcane has a high content of soluble carbohydrates, thereby resulting in many losses during its fermentation. Thus, it is necessary to use an additive that reduces the losses in the nutritional value of the forage during the ensiling process. The objective was to evaluate the use of common bean residue during the sugarcane ensiling process over the silage nutritional quality and fermentation characteristics. Were used 20 silos made of PVC pipes, in which the residue of crude and previously ground common bean processing (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) were added to newly chopped sugarcane in the proportions of 0; 50; 100 and 150 g kg-1 of fresh weight. A randomized design was used and the regression analysis was performed according to the level of...

Metabolisable energy prediction in energy feedstuffs and evaluation of the stepwise validation procedure using bootstrapping Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Oliveira,Newton Tavares Escocard de; Pozza,Paulo Cesar; Castilha,Leandro Dalcin; Pasquetti,Tiago Junior; Langer,Carolina Natali.
ABSTRACT The use of predicted values of apparent metabolisable energy (AME), obtained from regression equations, can be useful for both research institutions and nutrition industries. However, there is a need to validate independent samples to ensure that the predicted equation for AME is reliable. In this study, data was collected in order to estimate the prediction equations of corn, sorghum and wheat bran for pig feed, based on the chemical composition, in addition to evaluating the validity of the stepwise selection procedure regressive method of non-parametric bootstrap resampling. Data from metabolism trials in pigs and the chemical composition of feedstuffs was collected from both Brazilian and international literature, expressed as dry matter....
