MAIZE STOVER DEGRADATION UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF HALOXYFOP-METHYL UNDERDOSES Planta Daninha
JASPER,S.P.; VELINI,E.D.; PICOLI JR.,G.J.; CARBONARI,C.A.; SILVA,P.R.A..
ABSTRACT One of the major constraints to sustainable tillage is the rapid decomposition of the dry matter. The mechanism known to facilitate this process is the interference in the metabolic pathways of lignin polymers from spraying herbicide underdoses. This study has aimed to verify the effect of underdoses of haloxyfop-methyl in the synthesis of lignin and correlate the interference of this phenolic compound in the decomposition of maize stover. Two preliminary experiments were carried out in a greenhouse to set up the best underdoses to be applied in the yield area experiment. The treatments in the first experiment consisted of: 0; 2.5; 5 and 10 g a.i. ha-1 of haloxyfop-methyl herbicide. And in the second experiment: 0; 0.625; 1.25 and 2.5 g a.i. ha-1...

Resistance of Echinochloa crusgalli var. mitis to Imazapyr+Imazapic Herbicide and Alternative Control in Irrigated Rice Planta Daninha
BONOW,J.F.L.; LAMEGO,F.P.; ANDRES,A.; AVILA,L.A.; TELÓ,G.M.; EGEWARTH,K..
ABSTRACT: The introduction of Clearfield® system for irrigated rice production provided an effective management strategy in the selective control of weeds. However, the selection pressure caused by the continuous use of herbicides such as imazapyr+imazapic belonging to the imidazolinone chemical group, without the proper integrated management of weeds, has favored the selection of resistant accessions. The goals of this work were to confirm the resistance to ALS inhibitors in accessions of E. crusgalli var. mitis collected in rice fields of the state of Rio Grande do Sul and to evaluate the control with alternative herbicides registered for weed control. Three experiments were conducted in a greenhouse using plant seeds that survived the application of the...

SELECTIVITY OF METRIBUZIN IN POSTEMERGENCE OF CULTURE OF CARROT Planta Daninha
CARNEIRO,G.D.O. PESSOA; SILVA,G.S.; BARBOSA,A.R.; SILVA,D.V.; REIS,M.R..
ABSTRACT The initial slow growth and short stature of carrot can allow that weeds settle in crop areas, requiring the management of these plants for productivity not to decrease. Nevertheless, weeds control has been difficult because there are few herbicides available for weeds control in postemergence of carrots. Two experiments in the field were carried out to evaluate selectivity of metribuzin applied in postemergence of carrots. A experimental randomized block design was utilized with four repetitions. Treatments consisted of metribuzin doses (0, 144, 288, 432, 576, 720, 960 and 1,200 g ha-1), applied in postemergence of carrots of the Nantes variety. Roots productivity was evaluated and percentage of commercial roots and no-commercial roots was...

Quick Test for Detecting Glyphosate-Resistant Ryegrass Seeds Planta Daninha
SCHMITZ,M.F.; ZANDONÁ,R.R.; VARGAS,A.A.M.; GARCIA,J.R.; TUNES,L.V.M.; AGOSTINETTO,D..
ABSTRACT: The commercialization of ryegrass seeds with the presence of resistant biotypes is a serious issue that increses the dispersion of resistance to new areas without this problem. Therefore, this study aimed to develop a quick test to detect susceptible and resistant seeds to the glyphosate herbicide in order to identify contaminated seed lots with glyphosate resistance. Three experiments were carried out, one in greenhouse and the other two in the seed laboratory. First, the resistance factor (RF) was determined by a dose-response curve experiment in biotypes suspected to be resistant and susceptible to glyphosate. Then, the germination test was conducted with the selected biotypes under increasing glyphosate rates (0, 3.5, 6.9, 13.9, 27.8, 55.5,...

Sorption and Desorption of Diuron, Hexazinone and Mix (Diuron + Hexazinone) in Soils With Different Attributes Planta Daninha
SOUSA,G.V.; PEREIRA,G.A.M.; TEIXEIRA,M.F.F.; FARIA,A.T.; PAIVA,M.C.G.; SILVA,A.A..
ABSTRACT: In Brazil, sugarcane is grown in large areas. Weed control in sugarcane fields is done by chemical method, since it is more efficient and less expensive. In this method, herbicides that persist in the environment for long periods are used, among which there are hexazinone and diuron, which are applied in mixtures marketed by the industry. This research evaluated the sorption and desorption of hexazinone and diuron applied alone and in mixture, in two samples of Red-Yellow Latosols (LVAG and LVAV) and a Organosol (OR), with and without manure. Sorption isotherms were built using the batch equilibrium method and the identification and quantification of herbicides was obtained through a high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with UV-Vis...

Sorption and Desorption of Tembotrione and its Metabolite AE 1417268 in Soils with Different Attributes Planta Daninha
FARIA,A.T.; FIALHO,C.A.; SOUZA,M.F.; FREITAS,N.M.; SILVA,A.A..
ABSTRACT: Tembotrione is registered in Brazil for maize and is used in large areas of the country in each harvest. In recent years, producers have reported carryover effects of this herbicide in succeeding crops to maize. This fact can be attributed to tembotrione recommendations without knowing their interactions with tropical soils colloids. In this study, using high-performance liquid chromatography, it was possible to evaluate the influence of chemical and physical attributes on the sorption and desorption of tembotrione, as well as its metabolite AE 1417268, on seven soils from different regions of Brazil. The coefficients referring to sorption and desorption, as well as the hysteresis index (Kf, 1/n and H) of tembotrione and its metabolite were...

Ametryn Leaching in Soils from the Sugarcane Region in Northeastern Brazilian Planta Daninha
SILVA,K.S.; FREITAS,F.C.L.; BRAGA,D.F.; DOMBROSKI,J.L.D.; SANTOS,A.F.B..
ABSTRACT Ametryn is one of the most widely used herbicides in the sugarcane culture. Little is known about the interactions between this herbicide and the attributes of soils in the sugarcane region of northeastern Brazil. This knowledge, before recommending herbicide, will minimize the negative effects on the environment, particularly on water resources, and will ensure weed control efficacy. In this work, ametryn leaching potential was estimated through bioassays and chromatography, in five soils from the sugarcane region in northeastern Brazil: Quartzarenic Neosol (Entisol); Red Argisol (Ultisol); Ferrihumiluvic Spodosol (Spodosols); Red-Yellow Acrisol (Oxisol) and Haplic Cambisol (Inceptisols). To achieve this, columns were prepared with samples of the...

Imidazolinone Degradation in Soil in Response to Application History Planta Daninha
Bundt,A.C.; Avila,L.A.; Pivetta,A.; Agostinetto,D.; Dick,D.P.; Burauel,P..
Accelerated herbicide degradation consists in its faster degradation in areas where it has been previously applied, due to the adaptation of microbial population to that particular compound. Accelerated degradation can reduce herbicide persistence and reduce its efficacy in soil. The objective of this study was to investigate if imidazolinone herbicides have enhanced microbial degradation in rice paddy soils. A laboratory experiment was conducted, evaluating the CO2 evolution rate from soils with and without history of herbicide application (imazapyr + imazapic and imazethapyr + imazapic), incubated with imidazolinone herbicides: imazethapyr, imazapyr, imazapic, imazamethabenz, imazamox and an untreated check. Behavior of RR soybeans subjected to different formulations and rates of glyphosate in the reproductive period Planta Daninha
Albrecht,A.J.P.; Albrecht,L.P.; Krenchinski,F.H.; Placido,H.F.; Lorenzetti,J.B.; Victoria Filho,R.; Barroso,A.A.M..
Recent studies indicate that glyphosate applied in post-emergence in RR soybean can eventually cause phytotoxic effects. However, there are many questions that need to be clarified in the scientific and technical contexts, involving the issue of RR soybeans regarding the use of glyphosate. This study has assessed the impact of the application of different doses and formulations of glyphosate in the reproductive period of RR soybean (R1 stage). For that purpose, an experiment in the field was conducted in two harvests (2011/12 and 2012/13), in which a 2 x 5 factorial design was used (formulations versus doses) totaling 10 treatments. In these two experiments the variables related to agronomic performance were: phytotoxicity (7, 14, 21 and 28 days after...

Effect of Glyphosate on Guineagrass Submitted to Different Soil Water Potential Planta Daninha
SILVA JR.,A.C.; GONÇALVES,C.G.; SCARANO,M.C.; PEREIRA,M.R.R.; MARTINS,D..
ABSTRACT: The action of herbicides on weeds that develop under water deficit can be compromised, because the routes of penetration of hydrophilic herbicides are reduced due to the lower hydration of the cuticle in these plants. Moreover, hydrophobic compounds found in the epicuticular wax coating of plants under water stress, hinder the penetration of hydrophilic compounds. This study evaluated the control efficiency of glyphosate on guineagrass plants when submitted to different water deficits. The study was conducted in a greenhouse, and treatments were composed of guineagrass plants submitted to three soil water conditions [low water deficit (13%), intermediate water deficit (10%) and high water restriction (8%)], three doses of glyphosate (0.0, 270.0...

Clomazone Leaching Estimate in Soil Columns Using the Biological Method Planta Daninha
PEREIRA,G.A.M.; BARCELLOS JR.,L.H.; GONÇALVES,V.A.; SILVA,D.V.; SILVA,A.A..
ABSTRACT The chemical control of weed is a necessary practice in large-scale agriculture. However, when herbicides are used in the wrong way, they can remain into soil for long periods and/or be leached in its profile, and they may even contaminate groundwater. In this research, clomazone leaching in soil samples collected from different Brazilian regions was estimated by biological method. To do so, columns containing soils were used, and samples were collected every 5 cm. After preparing columns and applying a 1,500 g a.i. ha-1 clomazone dose, rain simulation was performed. Sorghum was used in order to detect the herbicide. More than 60% similarity was found for the studied variables; it was chosen to use only data referring to toxicity percentage....
