The workshop for a new Marine Climate Data System (MCDS) was held at the Deutscher Wetterdienst in Hamburg, Germany, from 28 November to 2 December 2011. The main goals of the meeting were to discuss the vision for a new MCDS in the next 10 years to better address the WMO-IOC-UNEP-ICSU Global Climate Observing System (GCOS), Global Framework for Climate Services (GFCS), and the WMO-IOC-UNEP-ICSU Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS) marine-meteorological and ocean data requirements for climate monitoring, forecasting, and services, and starting by (i) a modernized Voluntary Observing Ship (VOS) delayed-mode data-flow, (ii) the establishment of a network of WMO-IOC Centres for Marine-meteorological and Oceanographic Climate Data (CMOCs) on the model of the... |

Over the last two decades, the number and complexity of international cooperative programmes has increased. We are just completing WOCE, and JGOFS, but there is the IGBP, CLIVAR, GOOS, GCOS and GTOS among others. Many of these programmes originated in the research community. Using WOCE as an example, the programme organized 13 Data Assembly Centres (DACs) whose jobs were to assemble, quality control, and prepare the data for the final archive. IODE data centres participate in 4 of these DACs while another 4 DACs (non-IODE) handle data that are also managed by many IODE data centres, thus duplicating the effort. The remainder of the DACs dealt with data outside of traditional IODE data centre responsibility. The TOGA/TAO centre at PMEL is an example of a... |

The third session of the GOOS Steering Committee took place on March 10-12, 2000, in Paris, France. The Committee was advised of the progress in science planning by the four advisory panels dealing with Climate (OOPC), Coastal seas (C-GOOS), Health of The Ocean (HOTO), and Living Marine Resources (LMR). The Committee considered and approved plans for the integration of the last three of these panels into one new advisory panel dealing with all aspects of coastal seas (Coastal Ocean Observations Panel, or COOP). The Committee considered progress with and plans for space-based observations and data and information management. It agreed that the Joint Data and Information Management Panel (JDIMP) of the three oberving systems (GOOS, GCOS and GTOS) should be... |

Due to the need for general data collection and information system in I.R.Iran, through a resolution of the 27th session of UNESCO general conference, the establishment of a NODC in Iran was facilitated. In 1993 the draft resolution 153 was adopted. Finally in 1995 the Iranian Oceanographic Data Centre (IRODC) was established in the Iranian National Centre for Oceanography (INCO) and introduced as the node of the International Oceanographic Data and Information Exchange (IODE) in Iran. Today, IRODC is equipped with the latest computer technology and Internet facilities. Its staff include experts in physical oceanography, computer engineering, geology, and photogrammetry. |

Being the IODE Regional Coordinator for the Black Sea region I, in the first place, maintained contacts and collaborated with Chairman of the IOC Black Sea Regional Committee (BSRC) Prof. Valery Eremeev from the Marine Hydrophysical Institute of the Ukrainian National Academy of Sciences. As is generally known, one of the main tasks of BSRC is to coordinate and conduct activities on Pilot Project 1 «Black Sea GOOS». The «Black Sea GOOS» aims at developing and evolving system able to acquire, integrate and distribute oceanic observations and data, and to generate analyses, forecasts and other useful products to provide information for decision-makers at governmental level, as well as for industry, science and general public to deal with marine related... |

The OceanDocs Network has been created to provide a multi institutional distributed network of OceanDocs Central and institutional, regional and national repositories to provide a unique access point to marine science publications and research. Until 2011, its’ development had been loosely guided by cooperation between IODE, University of Hasselt, Belgium, and regional Oceanographic Data and Information Networks (ODIN). This first session of the OceanDocs Steering Group builds on the earlier work and takes the OceanDocs Network into the future with a formalized structure and agreed policies. |
