The present work was carried out in the coastal area of Ecuador under the Project ODEPLAN of the Instituto Nacional de Pesca. The evaluated information corresponds to samples collected on October 2003. Iniatially a total of 43 places were programmed for the sampling of bottom sediments, wich were demarcated with a GPS (Global Positional System). Even though there were collected a total of 41 sediments samples using a Van Veen drag, the same ones that were analyzed by Spectrophotometry of Atomic Absorption with Cold Vapor. The mercury was investigated in the total sediment as in the sediment ~,to 125 ~km, like a measure to evaluate its levels, to know its distribution in the study area that wich will allow the recognize certain events that happen with high... |

The results of the grain size and mineralogical analysis of the surface sediments of the Gulf of Gabes, taken with Various depths between the coast Sfax-Zarzis and the isobaths -100 m, allow to identify the origin of these sediments and to specify the factors and the phenomena, which are involved in their transport and their deposit. The mineralogical study resulted in high lighting a clear relation between the recent sedimentary stock of the gulf of Gabès and the bordering geological formations. The sediments study showed that the detritus materials are of continental origin and the sediments coming from the coastal erosion are subjected to a dynamics, which is controlled, primarily by the action of the currents (current coastal and currents tide and by... |

In this article we described the concept of “regional sediment management” (RSM), and identified opportunities for and impediments to implementing regional approaches to sediment management, and also summarized the background information and applications of RSM. Furthermore, we considered the needs of RSM studies and, suggested the framework for developing RSM strategies, and described the specific studies for the Xiamen region. |

The general current of the Gulf of Tunis are dependent of the general Mediterranean current. This last divides to the level of the Gulf of Tunis in two branches; a first connects by pass west coasts of the gulf while the second branch crosses the centre of the gulf with a NNW - SSE direction. The passage of this second branch of the general current creates a central zone characterised by a sediment relatively sandier than what surrounds it and controls the distribution of the different metallic elements that have for main origin the Oued Mejerda. The metallic elements here analyzed are the Fe, Zn, Ni, Co, Cu and Pb. Their concentrations vary respectively between 0,5. and 1,6%; 279 and 447 ppm; 39 and 67 ppm; 20 and 34 ppm; 9 and 20 and between 56 and 142... |

During the expeditions Cimar - Fiordos 2, 3 and 4 (1996, 1997 and 1999), samples of marine sediments were collected in Southern Chile, between Melinka (Lat. 43° 45' S) and Beagle Channel (Lat. 54° 56' S) to study the distribution and abundance of dinoflagellate cysts, particularly the toxic dinoflagellate Alexandriurn catenella. Samples were collected from 33 stations at depths of 1 to 15 meters. The study included photographic record and taxonomic identification of cysts to genus and, whenever possible, to species, with emphasis on the identification of cysts of A. catenella. Cysts from samples collected in cruises 3 and 4, were incubated in f/2-Se culture medium at 13 °C with controlled photoperiod (14:10, L:D), to induce germination and confirm species... |

As pan of the EROS-2000 project (European River Ocean Systems),sediment samples were collected in the North Western basin of the Mediterranean Sea in May 1990. In these samples trace and/or majorelements were determined to advance the knowledge about theconcentration, sources and cycles of natural and anthropogenicconstituents in coastal areas. Three fractions were determined: the porewater fraction whichcontains all dissolved elements the leachable fraction which containsall easily available elements and the residual fraction which containsthe strongly bound elements in the sediments. The results show thatthe investigated area can be separated into five "sub-areas" which aredifferent in element concentration, leachable fraction andsedimentary composition.... |
