| With resolution 3 067 (XXVIII), November 16th, 1973, the UN General Assembly decided the organization of a 3rd Conference on marine legislation which first session, "organization and proceedings", was held in New York City from December 3rd to December 14th, 1973 and whose second session, "in-depth questions", will be held in Caracas for 10 weeks between June 20th and August 29th, 1974. In reality, the decision dates back to a resolution 2 750 C (XXV), November 17th, 1970, and stems from a number of consultations carried out by the Secretary-General demonstrating that "the idea of a general-interest conference on marine legislation was largely supported". | Le tiers environ des bouchots concédés en France se trouve situé entre La Tranche/Mer en Vendée et Marsilly en Charente Maritime (Fig. 1). On peut distinguer, de part et d'autre de la Sèvre Niortaise, deux secteurs qui diffèrent par la nature de leur sol et, à marée montante, par l'origine des eaux de flot. Au sud de la Sèvre, la sédimentation résulte d'apports en provenance de l'Ile de Ré mais seuls les sables fins et les vases arrivent sur le littoral d'Esnandes-Marsilly où ils se déposent (LORIN, 1970). | The Rift Valley between 36° 42'N and 36° 55'N in the Atlantic Ocean is 31 km wide, with half-widths of 12 and 19 km for the western and eastern sides respectively. Both outer edges of the Rift Valley stand about 1500 m above an Inner Floor where very fresh pillow lavas occur. The Inner Floor probably includes the locus of new crust ; and its bordering slopes, which are particularly well-defined on the western side, limit to less than about 2.5 km the width of the zone over which new crust may have evolved with little or no vertical displacement. | Two new species of Asellota Isopoda of the mediterranean deep-sea fauna are described in this article : Pseudomesus bispinosus sp. n. collected from the western mediterranean abyssal plain, and llyarachna medorientalis sp. n. collected from the Matapan trench and the Aegean sea. The genus Pseudomesus is new for the Mediterranean. The great vertical distribution of I. medorientalis sp. n. is in accord with the eurybathic nature of mediterranean benthic deep-sea species. | A method for nutrition, production and ecological studies by calculation of amylase specific activity of zooplankton is described. The method's adjustment is based on the biochemical properties of the enzyme. The activity measurement of a single Artemia salina, a few Copepods, or of the whole contents of a net is possible with 5 % accuracy. | During the " Jean Charcot " cruise Polymed II, 18 species of the 5 classes of Echinodermata have been collected in 15 samples from the bathyal zone of the Alboran sea. Most species are already known from the Mediterranean and the North East Atlantic. Some rare species (Odontaster mediterranea, Ophiactis balli) have been collected, and two others (Neocomatella europaea. Henricia abyssalis) are recorded for the first time in the Mediterranean. Endemic distributions of Ceramaster hystricis and Ophiocten abyssicolum are discussed. | Dredged rocks from an area of about 15 km² within the inner floor and on the adjacent walls of the Rift Valley were collected. Based on petrographic and chemical data, four types of basaltic rocks were recognized: (1) picritic basalts with olivine xenocrysts, Ti02 inf 0.6%, K20 inf 0.l%, (2) olivine basalts with olivine megacrysts, Ti02=0.8-1.5%, K20=0.1-0.2%, (3) highly phyric and moderately phyric plagioclase basalts with megacrystic plagioclase, Ti02 inf 1.3%, K20 inf 0.3%, and (4) pyroxene basalts with pyroxene > plagioclase, Ti02=0.8-1%, K20=0.2-0.4%. | Depuis plusieurs années, l'huître plate O. edulis, cultivée en France est atteinte d'une maladie de la glande digestive. Jusqu'à la fin de l'été 1973, les élevages de l'Aber Benoît, de l'Aber Wrach et de la Penzé étaient les seuls qui, en Bretagne, fussent parasités (Grizel et Tigé, 1973). Depuis, la situation a très nettement évolué. A la fin de l'année 1973, l'épizootie a gagné les secteurs ostréicoles de Morlaix et d'une partie de la rade de Brest ; elle s'est étendue d'avril à juin 1974 à la quasi totalité des autres centres d'élevage.
