Influence of three rootstocks on yield and commercial quality of "Italian Sweet" pepper Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Doñas-Uclés,Francisco; Jiménez-Luna,María del Mar; Góngora-Corral,José Antonio; Pérez-Madrid,Diego; Verde-Fernández,David; Camacho-Ferre,Francisco.
Pepper crops (Capsicum annuum L.) represent a very important production sector in the Southeast of Spain. Specifically, in the province of Almería, approximately 7000 hectares are grown every year. Due to the economic importance that this crop has for the region and the withdrawal of soil fumigants from the market, agronomic techniques have been adopted with the aim of controlling some soil pathogens and increasing the yield and quality parameters of the fruits obtained. The use of grafted pepper plants is not, as yet, very well established in this region, due mainly to the lack of commercial rootstocks that satisfy the producers of this vegetable. In this experiment three pepper rootstocks were assessed. An experiment was designed with four treatments and...

Resistance of potato clones to necrotic recombinant strains of potato virus y (pvy) Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Ribeiro,Silvia Regina Rodrigues de Paula; Pinto,César Augusto Brasil Pereira; Costa,Suellen Bárbara Ferreira Galvino; Menezes,Mariney de; Figueira,Antonia dos Reis.
The Ry adg allele is widely used by breeders to confer extreme resistance to all strains of PVY. However, the necrotic strain has increased recombination resulting in recent considerable losses in productivity. Thus far, not all necrotic recombinant strains of PVY have been tested for their reaction to the Ry gene. The objective of this study was to identify potato clones carrying the resistant allele and to assess their reaction to the following recombinant strains: NTN (PVY NTN), Wilga (PVY N-Wi), and "curly top" (PVY E). Advanced clones from the potato breeding program at Universidade Federal de Lavras were evaluated through a specific molecular marker for the Ry adg allele. The clones carrying the resistance allele were grafted on tobacco plants...

Evaluation of four different strategies to characterize plasma membrane proteins from banana roots Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Garcia,Suzana Antunes Lourençoni; Panis,Bart; Swennen,Rony; Carpentier,Sebastien Christian.
Plasma membrane proteins constitute a very important class of proteins. They are involved in the transmission of external signals to the interior of the cell and selective transport of water, nutrients and ions across the plasma membrane. However, the study of plasma membrane proteins is challenging because of their poor solubility in aqueous media and low relative abundance. In this work, we evaluated four different strategies for the characterization of plasma membrane proteins from banana roots: (i) the aqueous-polymer two-phase system technique (ATPS) coupled to gelelectrophoresis (gel-based), and (ii) ATPS coupled to LC-MS/MS (gel free), (iii) a microsomal fraction and (iv) a full proteome, both coupled to LC-MS/MS. Our results show that the gel-based...
