| To maintain local populations of the Siberian flying squirrel Pteromys volans in restricted small habitats, it is necessary to understand their nesting and food biology. Communal nesting of P. volans is well documented in the Eurasian continent, but the details of this behavior have been poorly investigated in Japan. We investigated a group composition of P. volans in Hokkaido, Japan. The mean numbers of individuals using each nest box and tree cavity were 2.17 and 2.44, respectively. Although each female had its own exclusive home range, communal nesting composed by two females was observed in nest boxes. | 5 歳6 カ月齢ホルスタイン種乳牛が，後躯麻痺による起立不能を呈した．浅頸リンパ節の腫大と直腸検査による腫瘤 の触知から牛白血病を疑ったが，血液検査とリンパ節の針吸引生検では確定診断できなかった．剖検では，60 × 40 × 20cm 大の多結節性腫瘤が背側の腹腔壁に接して存在していた．腫瘍組織は腸腰筋に浸潤し，一部は第5 および第6 腰 椎椎間孔より脊柱管内に連続的に波及し，脊髄および脊髄神経根を圧迫していた．腫瘍はCD3 陽性のT細胞性リンパ 腫で，牛白血病ウイルス抗体陰性であったため，散発型牛白血病と診断された． A Holstein cow (5 years and 3 months old) presented with hind limb paresis and was unable to stand. | 同一の枝肉横断面画像であっても，入力デバイスの種類，撮影時の照明条件，コンピュータモニタの種類や，その輝度，色温度，コントラストなどの調整によって，異なる色合いとして表現される．本研究では，デジタル化された枝肉横断面画像を，異なるコンピュータモニタにおいて，同一の色合いとして表示するための手法について検討した．個々のモニタの持つ特性を解消するために，カラーキャリブレータを使用し，台のコンピュータモニタのカラーキャリブレーションを実施したところ，赤色の色度座標xは0.622から0.624，yは0.344から0.345の範囲にあった．最も数値に差異が認められた緑色においても，その範囲は色度座標xの0.290から0.293であり，3台のコンピュータモニタが非常に近い色合いを発色していることが確認された．著者らにより開発された枝肉横断面撮影装置（以下，撮影装置）は，鮮明かつ安定的に枝肉横断面画像を採取可能である．同時期に開発された撮影装置は，5台存在するが，白色LEDやデジタルカメラの特性により，同一の設計ではあるものの，それぞれの撮影装置で得られる画像の色合いは，若干の差異が存在する．撮影装置の特性を除去するために，重回帰分析による色補正を行った結果，すべての撮影装置から得られた画像をほぼ同一の色合いで表示させることに成功した．また，2台の撮影装置で同一の枝肉（n＝63）を撮影し，画像解析によりBCSナンバーを推定したところ，色補正前における推定BCSナンバーの平均値の撮影装置間差は0.51であったのに対し，色補正後のそれは0.05と小さくなった． Identical digital images of carcass cross sections display in different colors on... |

| We observed structural changes in the follicles and uterus of heavy draft mares during estrus and examined the effect of a single injection of the gonadotropin-releasing hormone analog buserelin on ovulation and endocrine profiles. Twenty-two heavy draft mares were divided into a buserelin-treated group (n=8) and a control group (n=14). Mares were given an intramuscular injection of 40 µg buserelin when they presented signs of estrus to a teaser stallion, had ≥45 mm diameter follicles, and presented decreased uterine edema compared with the previous examination. | Serological methods were utilized to detect Anaplasma and Ehrlichia infection in domestic animals in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, China. By using an indirect immunofluorescence assay (IFA), antibodies that reacted with Anaplasma phagocytophilum and Ehrlichia chaffeensis were detected mainly in ruminants kept on pastureland in Altai, Ili and Kashgar area. Antibody titers up to 1:320 were recorded. These results indicate that ruminants kept in these areas may be infected with some species of Anaplasma and Ehrlichia. |

| カメの体幹部は甲羅に覆われているため、単純Ｘ線撮影では得られる情報が少ない。そこで今回、ミシシッピーアカミミガメに対するＸ線CTによる断層撮影検査の有用性について検討した。まず基礎的検討として、臨床的に健康な6匹を用い、軟部組織、肺および骨のCT値を計測し、その結果からそれぞれの組織の観察に適したウインドウを設定した。また、病理学的検索の結果、全ての個体において肝臓の脂肪変性が認められ、肝臓のCT値が低い個体ほど変性の程度が大きく、CT値の高い個体ほど変性の程度が小さかった。このことから、肝臓のCT値の差により脂肪変性の程度を診断することが可能であった。さらに、臨床例についてCT検査を実施したところ、それぞれ、消化管内異物、肺炎および卵塞の診断が可能であった。以上の成績より、ミシシッピーアカミミガメの臨床診断において従来の単純Ｘ線撮影では読影が困難であった体幹部軟部組織について、CTにより詳細な情報を得ることが可能であった。よって、カメの臨床診断にはCTによる断層画像診断の積極的な利用が望まれる。 In turtles，conventional radiographic techniques give little information on the interna1 organs because of the density of the shell.
