INTRODUCTION During recent explorations off the Mediterranean coast of Israel several specimens of Stenopus spinosus were collected. When studying this material it was thought to be of interest to compare the Israel specimens with those that had been reported from the Red Sea. Although Stenopus spinosus has repeatedly been reported from the eastern Atlantic and the Mediterranean, there is only a single record of the species from the Red Sea (Balss, 1914). Due to the kindness of Dr. G. Pretzmann of the Vienna Museum it was made possible for us to examine these Red Sea specimens. These proved not to be Stenopus spinosus but to belong to the poorly known Engystenopus spinulatus. In the first part of the present paper the Israel Stenopus material is dealt... |

Under the auspices of Leiden University and with the financial aid of various organisations and institutions, Messrs. E. Hennipman, P. Nijhoff, C. Swennen, A. S. Tulp, W. J. M. Vader, and W. J. J. O. de Wilde, most of whom are biological students of Leiden University, made a collecting trip to Turkey from March to July 1959. Extensive collections of plants and animals from Turkey were brought together, while moreover incidental collecting was done on the way home in Greece and Jugoslavia. A narrative of this trip will be published by Nijhoff & Swennen. The Decapod and Stomatopod Crustacea brought home by the expedition form an extensive and well preserved collection, which contains many very interesting items. It is gratifying to see that... |

INTRODUCTION Ligur uveae is generally considered an anchialine species (found in land-locked, generally supralittoral saltwater pools) with the type locality given simply as "Uvea, Loyalty Islands" by Borradaile (1899). The species is widely distributed geographically, although locally evidently confined to a very restricted habitat. Its known range extends from the western Indian Ocean to Polynesia: Aldabra, western Indian Ocean (Borradaile, 1917; Gordon, 1936); Halmahera, northern Moluccas, Indonesia (Holthuis, 1947; 1963); Uvea, Loyalty Islands (Borradaile, 1899; Gordon, 1936); Sayawa Islet near Uvea (Monod, 1968); Vatulele Island, Fiji Archipelago (Gordon, 1936; Derrick, 1957; Marden, 1958; Reed & Hames, 1967); Vanua Vatu and Vanua Levu Islands,... |

The six freshwater species of the family Hymenosomatidae are enumerated with indication of habitat and distribution; two belong to the genus Neorhynchoplax and four to Halicarcinus. One species, Halicarcinus angelicus, from the central mountain range of Papua is described as new. Details are given of type material of H. pilosus (A. Milne Edwards) from New Caledonia. |

In recent years several extensive collections of West Indian Decapod Crustacea have been received for identification by the Rijksmuseum van Natuurlijke Historie. On various visits to the Netherlands Antilles Dr. P. Wagenaar Hummelinck, Curator of the Zoological Laboratory at Utrecht, collected numerous Decapoda including many most interesting forms. Dr. J. S. Zaneveld, Director of the Caribbean Marine Biological Institute at Curaçao, not only assisted Dr. Hummelinck on his last (1955) visit to that island, but also sent in to the Rijksmuseum van Natuurlijke Historie important material which he had collected before and since; furthermore, during my own stay in the Netherlands Antilles (November 1956 to April 1957), Dr. Zaneveld did everything in his power... |
