The Bupleurum feeding species of Trifurcula (Glaucolepis) Braun, 1917 are revised. Five species are recognised: T. bupleurella (Chrétien, 1907), T. sanctibenedicti Klimesch, 1979, T. megaphallus van Nieukerken, Z. Laštuvka & A. Laštuvka sp. n. feeding on Bupleurum gibraltarium in southern Spain, T. chretieni Z. Laštuvka, A. Laštuvka & van Nieukerken sp. n. feeding on Bupleurum rigidum in southern France, Spain and Portugal, and T. siciliae Z. Laštuvka, A. Laštuvka & van Nieukerken sp. n. feeding on B. fruticosum in Sicily. The group is restricted to southwestern Europe and northern Africa, the area where most shrubby Bupleurum species occur. A NJ and Bayesian analysis of DNA barcodes of four out of five species suggest a single origin of... |

Stigmella tatrica sp. n. is described from moths taken in the alpine zone of the Tatra Mountains in Slovakia. The new species is similar to several other montane species of Stigmella Schrank, 1802 in the S. aurella (Fabricius, 1775) group in external characters and male genitalia; its closest relative is S. dryadella (O. Hofmann, 1868). It is indistinguishable from S. tormentillella (Herrich-Schäffer, 1860) by the colour and pattern elements of the forewing; however, it differs in the male genitalia in the shape and number of cornuti, in the female genitalia by long apophyses with protruding ovipositor, and by COI barcodes. Immature stages are unknown, but Dryas octopetala L. (Rosaceae) is the possible hostplant. The long ovipositor suggests an unusual,... |

The subgenera Zimmermannia Hering and Ectoedemia s.str., together forming the genus Ectoedemia Busck sensu Wilkinson & Newton (1981) are described and redefined, and the Western Palaearctic species are revised. In total 50 species are recognised, including the new species hispanica, monemvasiae, nuristanica in Zimmermannia and andalusiae, algeriensis, leucothorax, alnifoliae, contorta and two unnamed species in Ectoedemia s.str. Fifteen new synonymies and ten new combinations are established and 42 lectotypes are designated. Primary types have been examined in many cases. Data on larvae and biology are included and keys to all species are provided. The monophyly and the sister group relationships of both subgenera are demonstrated. The subgenus... |

Eleven species of Nepticulidae are recorded from the Netherlands for the first time. Eight of these have been collected as larvae during recent field work: Ecroedernia hannoverella (Glitz), E. nlediofasciella (Haworth), E. spirzosella (Joannis). E. arcz~arella (Herrich- Schaffer). Trifurcula cryptella (Stainton), Stigmella aeneofusciella (Herrich-Schaffer). S. poterii (Stainton), and S. crataegella Klimesch. On the basis of old collection material E. longicaudella Klimesch, E. bradfordi Emmet and S. svenssoni (Johansson) can be added to the list. A single specimen of E. bradfordi appears to be only the second one known. Some notes on rare species are given. S. regiella (Frey) is recorded for the first time from Belgium. |

This is the fourth 'annual' compilation of Microlepidoptera collected in The Netherlands, the first three having been published in Entomologische Berichten (vols 45: 89-104 [1985]; 46: 137-156 [1986]; 48: 69-81 [1988]). The following fifteen species are here recorded for the first time from The Netherlands: 1. Ectoedemia heringi (Toll) (Nepticulidae), leafmining on Quercus in eastern and southeastern parts. 2. Alloclemensia mesospilella (Herrich-Schäffer) (Incurvariidae), from Noord-Brabant, details to be published by Van Nieukerken. 3. Nematopogon schwarziellus Zeller (Adelidae), previously misidentified as N. pilella (Denis & Schiffermüller). 4. Nemapogon wolffiella Karsholt & Nielsen (Tineidae), two specimens from southern Limburg. 5. Tinea... |

The phylogeny of the mainly Australian nepticulid genus Pectinivalva Scoble, 1983 is investigated on the basis of morphology, and a division into three monophyletic subgenera is proposed on the basis of these results. These subgenera (Pectinivalva, Casanovula Hoare, subgen. n. and Menurella Hoare, subgen. n. ) are described and diagnosed, the described species of Pectinivalva are assigned to them, and representative new species are described in each: P. (P.) mystaconota Hoare, sp. n., P. (C.) brevipalpa Hoare, sp. n., P. (C.) minotaurus Hoare, sp. n., P. (M.) scotodes Hoare, sp. n., P. (M.) acmenae Hoare, sp. n., P. Antispila treitschkiella (Fischer von Röslerstamm, 1843) and A. petryi Martini, 1899, sp. rev. were regarded as synonymous since 1978, but are shown to be two clearly separated species with different hostplants, life histories, DNA barcodes and morphology. Antispila treitschkiella feeds on Cornus mas L., is bivoltine, and has, by following its ornamentally planted host, greatly expanded its range in north-western Europe. In contrast A. petryi feeds on the widespread native C. sanguinea L., is univoltine, and is one of only two Antispila species previously resident in the British Isles, the Netherlands and northern Europe. Consequently, the increase in abundance of A. treitschkiella in the Netherlands since the early 1990s and in Great Britain in recent... |
