A systematic surveillance progam conducted since 1980 along the coasts of Britanny has followed the evolution and epidemiological state of the natural O. eulis oyster beds and seed areas in the intertidal zones and deep water. Presently, Marteilia refringens exists endemically in Brittany estuaries ; the rate and degree of infestation varies from year to year depending on the hydrological conditions and the geographical region. In no case, however, is the return of flat oyster culture envisoned. Bonamia ostreae is present not only in the estuaries but also in the deep-water rearing areas (Baie de Quiberon, Cancale, Baie de St Brieuc). The symptom which characterizes the brown ring disease (BRD) in Manilla clam Ruditapes philippinarum has been observed in other Bivalvia species (Veneridae and Pectinidae). Vibrio P1, responsible of the BRD in R. philippinarum , has been detected in other Veneridae which were carrying the symptom. In mussel and oysters which are cultivated in Europe, the symptom has never been reported and Vibrio P1 has not been detected. Experimental contaminations of bivalves of commercial interest with the pathogen showed a clear Vibrio P1 sensitivity of European clam R. decussatus ; this latter seems however to be less sensitive than the Manilla clam. |

Bonamiosis was first reported in association with mass mortality of flat oysters, Ostrea edulis, in June 1979 in L'Ile Tudy, Brittany. The disease rapidly spread to all of the oyster farming areas in France but also in other European countries. The French flat oyster production, which already suffered from another protozoan disease, marteiliosis, decreased from 5500 mt in 1979 to less than 2000 mt after 1980. In 2001, about 350 French farms sell 1650 mt of flat oysters. This production mainly relies on natural spat collection which specially occurs in Quiberon bay. In addition to increased seafood consumption and tourism, recent studies link global climate change with an apparent increasing incidence of the Marine Seafood Toxin diseases. However, the epidemiology of the human diseases caused by the harmful marine phytoplankton is still in its infancy. In general, the epidemiology of these diseases has consisted of case reports of acute illness, sometimes as epidemic outbreaks, associated with the ingestion of suspicious seafood. En arrecifes coralinos del suroeste de Cuba, se evaluaron los impactos de la inusitada frecuencia e intensidad de huracanes entre el 2001 y el 2007, y de las enfermedades de corales, ambos factores asociados al cambio climático. En las crestas arrecifales, la reducción de la cobertura de coral duro vivo varió de nula a 21%, mientras que la reducción del diámetro máximo promedio de los corales varió de 16 a 40 cm. There is increasing evidence that environmental degradation may be contributing to an increase in marine-related diseases across a wide range of taxonomic groups. This includes a growing number of reports of both recreational and occupational users of marine waters developing gastrointestinal, respiratory, dermatologic, and ear, nose, and throat infections. The duration and type of exposure, concentration of pathogens, and host immunity determine the risk of infection. Se estudió la influencia de diferentes combinaciones de fibra de soya (1,5; 2,0; 2,5 y 3 %) sobre algunas características de calidad de las salchichas. Los componentes constantes para todas las variantes fueron: 55 % de carne de cerdo, 2,39 % de sales (sal común, sal de cura, tripolifosfato de sodio y ascorbato de sodio) y 1,20 % de condimentos. Además se tomó como referencia la formulación de una salchicha sin fibra. A las salchichas se les determinaron proteínas, humedad, grasa, pH, cloruros y nitritos.
