The work was carried out to assess mass production and nutritional content of winter forages using lopsided oat (Avena strigosa) and white oat (Avena sativa) intercropped with ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum) and vetch (Vicia sativa L.). The species were intercropped as the following treatments: lopsided oat with ryegrass (LO+RG); white oat with ryegrass (CO+RG); lopsided oat with vetch (LO+V); white oat with vetch (CO+V); lopsided oat, vetch and ryegrass (LO+RG+V); and white oat, ryegrass and vetch (CO+RG+V). The study evaluated total forage mass production of each intercropping and crude protein levels, neutral detergent fiber and in vitro digestibility coefficient of dry matter. The results indicate that forage yield of oats was higher in early...

The dynamics of nitrogen (N) in ryegrass intercropped with different forage species with regard to dry matter (DM) accumulation within an agroecological transition system was evaluated. Annual ryegrass was intercropped with black oats (RY + BO), white clover (RY + WC) and forage peanut (RY + FP). The experimental design was completely randomized, with three replications. The study applied the N dilution model for plant tissue which comparatively uses modifiable factors of the environment at optimal levels. The model shows decline in N concentration due to the DM accumulation of temperate grass pastures. Data were compared to model by the root mean square deviation analysis. Dilution coefficient (β), used in all pasture samples, was lower than -0.60....

Tripartite symbiosis of Sophora tomentosa, rhizobia and arbuscular mycorhizal fungi BJM
Toma,Maíra Akemi; Carvalho,Teotonio Soares de; Guimarães,Amanda Azarias; Costa,Elaine Martins da; Silva,Jacqueline Savana da; Moreira,Fatima Maria de Souza.
ABSTRACT Sophora tomentosa is a pantropical legume species with potential for recovery of areas degraded by salinization, and for stabilization of sand dunes. However, few studies on this species have been carried out, and none regarding its symbiotic relationship with beneficial soil microorganisms. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the diversity of nitrogen-fixing bacteria isolated from nodules of Sophora tomentosa, and to analyze the occurrence of colonization of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi on the roots of this legume in seafront soil. Thus, seeds, root nodules, and soil from the rhizosphere of Sophora tomentosa were collected. From the soil samples, trap cultures with this species were established to extract spores and to evaluate arbuscular...

In the humid tropics, the largest obstacle to the implementation of sustainable farming systems is the reduced efficiency of nutrient use by crops. This study assesses the effectiveness of five selected rhizobia strains in symbiosis with cowpea (Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp.), with the objective of replacing N fertilization in the predominant agricultural system used by smallholder farmers. The study was carried out in three adjacent areas with distinct agricultural uses: conventional tillage, itinerant agriculture, and a no-till system. The experimental design was in randomized complete blocks with four replicates and seven treatments: five rhizobia strains (BR3262, BR3267, BR3299, INPA3-11B, and UFLA 3-84) and two controls without inoculation (one without...

The forage yield of Gliricidia sepium during the rainy and dry seasons following pruning management in Brazil Ciencia e Investigación Agraria
Edvan,Ricardo L; Carneiro,Maria S. de S; Magalhães,João A; Albuquerque,Daiane R; Silva,Mickson S. de M; Bezerra,Leilson R; Oliveira,Ronaldo L; Santos,Edson M.
Gliricidia sepium (Jacq.) Steud. shows relatively little growth variation due to climatic differences throughout the year and between years. The purpose of this study was to evaluate various cutting strategies for the management of Gliricidia for forage production in dry and rainy periods of the year. A randomized-block factorial experimental design (12 x 2) was used for the study. The factorial setup consisted of 12 pruning management treatments (cuttings at 45, 60, 75 and 90 days with 30, 60 and 90 cm residual heights) and two periods (dry and rainy season) with four replicates. There were significant interactions between the management regime and the season for plant height, stem diameter, stem diameter and the weight of both fresh and dry forage. The...

Agronomic characteristics and chemical composition of Gliricidia sepium grown under different residual heights in different seasons Ciencia e Investigación Agraria
Silva,Shirlenne F; Carneiro,Maria S. de S.; Edvan,Ricardo L; Pereira,Elzânia S; Neto,Luiz B. de Morais; Pinto,Andréa P; Camilo,Danilo de A.
This research was conducted to evaluate the agronomic characteristics and chemical composition of Gliricidia sepium (Jacq.) Steud grown under different residual heights in different seasons. The experimental design used was a complete randomized block in a split-plot. The plots consisted of three residual heights (70, 90 and 110 cm), and the subplots were four seasons (fall, winter, spring and summer) with four replicates. There was no (P>0.05) interaction between season and residual heights for agronomic characteristics. However, these features were influenced by the cutting season, with no significant effect (P>0.05) on residual height. Significant effects (P<0.05) were observed for dry matter, mineral matter, acid detergent fiber and...
